Book Tectonic Setting and Gondwana Basin Architecture in the Indian Shield

Download or read book Tectonic Setting and Gondwana Basin Architecture in the Indian Shield written by Subhrangsu Acharyya and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-12-04 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tectonic Setting and Gondwana Basin Architecture in the Indian Shield, Volume Four, is the newest book in the Problems and Solutions in Structural Geology and Tectonics series from Elsevier, and is a synthesized monograph on the tectonic settings of Gondwana basins of India. It is a unique book on a topic of national and international interest, especially given the economic importance of the region (coal reserves). The book is authored and edited by very experienced theoretical experts and explores and reconstructs unified stratigraphic research of the region, including the relative role of tension and lateral movement in basin formation. Basin formation is the driving force behind formation and break-up of supercontinents and the time frame of supercontinent cycles. Provides the latest data on the tectonic settings of Gondwana basins of India Explores the unified stratigraphic research of the region Authored and edited by experienced theoretical experts

Download or read book Large Igneous Provinces written by John J. Mahoney and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 1997-01-23 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 100. Continental flood basalts, volcanic passive margins, and oceanic plateaus represent the largest known volcanic episodes on our planet, yet they are not easily explained by plate tectonics. Indeed, some are likely to record periods when the outward transfer of material and energy from the Earth's interior operated in a significantly different mode than at present. In recent years, interest in large-scale mafic magmatism has surged as high-precision geochronological, detailed geochemical, and increasingly sophisticated geophysical data have become available for many provinces. However, the sheer amount of recent material, often in the form of detailed collaborative research projects, can overwhelm newcomers to the field and experts alike as the literature continues to grow dramatically. The need for an up-to-date review volume on a sizable subset of the major continental and oceanic flood basalt provinces, termed large igneous provinces, was recognized by the Commission on Large-Volume Basaltic Provinces (International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior), and the co-editors were charged with organizing and implementing such a volume. We hope that this volume will be valuable to researchers and graduate students worldwide, particularly to petrologists, geochemists, geochronologists, geodynamicists, and plate-tectonics specialists; it may also interest planetologists, oceanographers, and atmospheric scientists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compact and reader-friendly book introduces students to materials and studies that are gaining importance in the study of fossils. It covers all the important branches of palaeontology and provides up-to-date and detailed analysis of the principles of palaeontology, systematics, palaeocolgy, evolution, invertebrate and vertebrate palaeontology, palaeobotany, and micropalaeontology. The text takes a holistic approach to the subject with concrete examples. Primarily intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Geology or Earth Sciences, the book will also prove useful for Zoology and Botany undergraduates. Geologists, particularly those assigned with jobs on palaeontology, micropalaeontology, palaeobotany will benefit from the text. Finally, students and research scientists intending to work with Indian problems concerning palaeontology should find the book beneficial. KEY FEATURES  Provides up-to-date data, concepts and Indian examples of fossils  Furnishes important data for laboratory work and Indian stratigraphy  Gives pertinent information on Fossil Lagerstätten in a tabulated form

Download or read book Antarctic Paleobiology written by Thomas N. Taylor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antarctic Paleobiology discusses the current status of paleobiology, principally paleobotany and palynology in Antarctica, and the interrelationship of Antarctic floras to those of other Gondwana continents. It provides a broad coverage of the major groups of plants on the one hand, while on the other seeking to evaluate the vegetational history and the physical and biological parameters that influence the distribution of floras through time and space. The biologic activity is discussed within a framework of the geologic history, including the tectonic and paleogeographic history of the region. Finally, the reader will find a comprehensive bibliography of Gondwana paleobotany and palynology.
