Download or read book The Sedimentary Basins of the United States and Canada written by Andrew Miall and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-12-03 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there have been rapid strides in our understanding of plate-tectonic processes, many developments in methods of basin analysis, and the accumulation of much new surface and subsurface geological and geophysical data. Projects such as COCORP (in the United States) and Lithoprobe (in Canada) have provided essential insights into the deep crustal structure of the continent. Synthesis of all the available information about North America's geological regions has not been attempted systematically since the "Decade of North American Geology project undertaken by the Geological Society of America and the Geological Survey of Canada nearly twenty years ago. The book commences with a summary of the Phanerozoic geological history of the United States and Canada, illustrated with a suite of new paleogeographic maps, and tying in each of the subsequent regional chapters by the inclusion of numerous cross-references. This followed by a set of fifteen regional syntheses of the principal tectonic regions of the United States and Canada, focusing on the stratigraphic and tectonic history of the major sedimentary basins. Most of these chapters have been contributed by specialists, drawing on their own research, and providing interpretive summaries of a type not previously attempted. - Up-to-date synthesis of the sedimentary/tectonic history of the major areas of the United States and Canada - Up-to-date references - Many new color maps
Download or read book A Review of Cretaceous and Tertiary Stratigraphy in the Northern Yukon and Adjacent Northwest Territories written by James Dixon and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study encompassess the area from about latitude 65° N to the Beaufort Sea and from longitude 132° W to the Alaska border, and includes Cretaceous strata in the northern Richardson, northern Ogilvie and British mountains, and in the subsurface under the Mackenzie Delta and Tuktoyaktuk Peninsula.
Download or read book The Geology Mineral and Hydrocarbon Potential of Northern Yukon Territory and Northwestern District of Mackenzie written by Donald Kring Norris and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes the regional geology of the northern Yukon and north-western District of Mackenzie, based on original field work in the early 1960s and updated in light of more recent detailed investigations. After introductory chapters on the original reconnaissance survey, the physiographic setting of the study area, and the geological setting (tectonics, seismicity, tectonostratigraphic sequences), subsequent chapters describe the geology (including stratigraphy, paleontology, paleogeography, lithology, and tectonics, as applicable) of individual geological eras or periods from the Proterozoic to Tertiary. The following chapters cover the geology of the Beaufort Sea continental shelf; the White, Barn, and Campbell uplifts; the petrology of the northern Yukon intrusive suite; and the mineral and hydrocarbon potential of the study area. Includes a catalogue of stratigraphic sections and an index.

Download or read book Sedimentary Cover of the Craton in Canada written by D.F. Stott and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1993 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early chapters of the volume present data and interpretations of the geophysics of the craton and summarise, with sequential maps, the tectonic evolution of the craton. The main body of the text and accompanying plates and figures present the stratigraphy, structural history, and economic geology of specific sedimentary basins and regions. The volume concludes with a summary chapter in which the currently popular theories of cratonal tectonics are discussed and the unresolved questions are identified.

Download or read book Organic Geochemistry of the Upper Cretaceous Tertiary Delta Complexes of the Beaufort Mackenzie Sedimentary Basins Northwest Territories written by L. R. Snowdon and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1981 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This study is restricted to data derived from Upper Cretaceous and Tertiary rocks but the results have implications for rocks of other ages and in other depositional basins. The main emphasis of the interpretation is on geological and geochemical interrelationships but the results are also discussed in terms of potential petroleum source rocks and theoretical geochemical models. One conclusion of the study is that existing concepts of petroleum generation must be modified to include an early stage of condensate generation. It is also concluded that organic facies do not necessarily correspond to sedimentary facies, which suggests that point bar or stream bed sands have just as much potential as reservoirs as the more highly favoured delta front sands of this region." --
