Book An Optimized Superferric Wiggler Design for the International Linear Collider Damping Rings

Download or read book An Optimized Superferric Wiggler Design for the International Linear Collider Damping Rings written by Jeremy Todd Urban and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental and simulation-based analyses of the superferric wigglers operating in the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) have provided significant practical experience with a wiggler-dominated accelerator. A modified version of the CESR wiggler will be discussed and shown to meet all physics performance specifications for the International Linear Collider (ILC) damping rings. Results from optimizations of the parameters of this wiggler will also be discussed and shown to both maintain the physics performance and additionally provide modifications that reduce the wiggler's cost and engineering risk. The design and simulated performance of the superferric ILC-optimized CESR-c (SIOC) wiggler will be presented, leading to a recommendation of the SIOC wiggler as the baseline ILC damping wiggler.

Book Recommendation for the Feasibility of More Compact LC Damping Rings

Download or read book Recommendation for the Feasibility of More Compact LC Damping Rings written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of the international Linear Collider (ILC) collaboration, we have compared the electron cloud (EC) effect for different Damping Ring (DR) designs respectively with 6.4 km and 3.2 km circumference and investigated the feasibility of the shorter damping ring with respect to the electron cloud build-up and related beam instabilities. The studies for a 3.2 km ring were carried out with beam parameters of the ILC Low Power option. A reduced damping ring circumference has been proposed for the new ILC baseline design SB2009 [1] and would allow considerable reduction of the number of components, wiggler magnets and costs. We discuss the impact of the proposed operation of the ILC at high repetition rate 10 Hz and address the necessary modifications for the DRs. We also briefly discuss the plans for future studies including the luminosity upgrade option with shorter bunch spacing, the evaluation of mitigation techniques and the integration of the CesrTA results into the Damping Ring design.

Book A Damping Ring Design for Future Linear Colliders

Download or read book A Damping Ring Design for Future Linear Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we present a preliminary design of a damping ring for the TeV Linear Collider (TLC), a future linear collider with an energy of 1/2 to 1 TeV in the center of mass. Because of limits on the emittance, repetition rate and longitudinal impedance, we use combined function FODO cells with wigglers in insertion regions; there are approximately 22 meters of wigglers in the 155 meter ring. The ring has a normalized horizontal emittance, including the effect of intrabeam scattering, which is less than 3 /times/ 10/sup -6/ and an emittance ratio of epsilon/sub x/ approx. 100epsilon/sub y/. It is designed to damp bunches for 7 vertical damping times while operating at a repetition rate of 360 Hz. Because of these requirements on the emittance and the damping per bunch, the ring operates at 1.8 GeV and is relatively large, allowing more bunches to be damped at once. 10 refs., 5 figs., 2 tabs.

Book Damping Ring Designs and Issues

Download or read book Damping Ring Designs and Issues written by Andrzej Wolski and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The luminosity performance of a future linear collider (LC) will depend critically on the performance of the damping rings. The design luminosities of the current LC proposals require rings with very short damping times, large acceptance, low equilibrium emittance and high beam intensity. We discuss the design strategies for lattices achieving the goals of dynamical stability, examine the challenges for alignment and coupling correction, and consider a variety of collective effects that threaten to limit beam quality. We put the design goals in context by referring to the experience of operating facilities, and outline the further research and development that is needed.

Book Damping Ring to Interaction Point Beam Transport Issues

Download or read book Damping Ring to Interaction Point Beam Transport Issues written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major challenges facing the proposed high-energy linear ee− colliders is the preservation of the extremely small vertical emittance from the damping rings to the interaction point (IP). This emittance must be transported through bunch compression sections, the main linac and finally through the beam delivery system to the IP. Historically, the beam dynamics issues of each subsystem have been studied quasi-independently, with the beam conditions and tolerances being specified at the boundaries. As part of the recent International Linear Collider Technical Review Committee [1], new simulation tools have been developed to simulate the beam transport through the integrated system, including static and dynamic errors, stabilization systems, and tuning algorithms.

Book The Next Linear Collider Damping Ring Lattices

Download or read book The Next Linear Collider Damping Ring Lattices written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on the lattice design of the Next Linear Collider (NLC) damping rings. The damping rings are required to provide low emittance electron and positron bunch trains to the NLC linacs, at a rate of 120 Hz. We present an optical design, based on a theoretical minimum emittance (TME) lattice, to produce the required normalized extracted beam emittances gex = 3 mm-mrad and gey = 0.02 mm mrad. An assessment of dynamic aperture and non-linear effects is given. The positron pre-damping ring, required to reduce the emittance of the positron beam such that it may be accepted by a main damping ring, is also described.

Book A Damping Ring Design for the SLAC Next Linear Collider

Download or read book A Damping Ring Design for the SLAC Next Linear Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, we describe the design of the main damping rings and the positron pre-damping ring for the SLAC Next Linear Collider, a future linear collider with a center-of-mass energy of 0.5 to 1.5 TeV. The rings will operate at an energy of 2 GeV with a maximum repetition rate of 180 Hz. The normalized extracted beam emittances are[gamma][epsilon][sub x]= 3 mm-mrad and[gamma][epsilon][sub y]= 0.03 mm-mrad. To provide the necessary damping, the rings must damp multiple trains of bunches. Thus, the beam current is large, roughly 1 A. We will present the optical layout, magnet designs, and RF systems, along with the dynamic aperture and required alignment tolerances; collective effects will be discussed in another paper.

Book Direct Space charge Effects on the ILC Damping Rings

Download or read book Direct Space charge Effects on the ILC Damping Rings written by Katsunobu Oide and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2005 a global effort was initiated to conduct studies for a baseline recommendation for the various components of the International Linear Collider (ILC). Work for the damping rings was subdivided in a number of tasks. This Report contains the contribution to this effort by the Authors as Coordinators of the Task Force on space charge. (A slightly reduced version of this document can also be found as part of the ''Configuration Studies and Recommendations for the ILC Damping Rings'', Edts. A. Wolski, et al., LBNL-59449.) The studies documented in this Report were carried out for several of the reference lattices considered for the baseline recommendation. Space charge effects were found to be quite noticeable in the lattices with the longest circumference. Although it does not appear that they could prevent operation of any machine having such lattices they do favor a choice of a ring design with shorter ({approx}6km) circumference at 5 GeV.
