Book Updated Surficial Geology Compilation of the Scotian Shelf Bioregion Offshore Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Canada

Download or read book Updated Surficial Geology Compilation of the Scotian Shelf Bioregion Offshore Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Canada written by G. Philibert and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report presents the surficial geology of the Scotian Shelf Bioregion (SSB). The Scotian Shelf surficial geology had been interpreted in the past over the shallower portions of the bioregion as well as on the slope. Since these early maps were produced, more recent and higher resolution hydroacoustic data have been acquired. Therefore, the main objective of the present study is to update the existing surficial geology over the entire SSB, both shelf and slope, using new available maps and data sets. This report constitutes a review of all existing publically available data sets and associated studies that provide information on surficial geology within the bioregion and describes how previous maps and recent data were amalgamated to produced a new updated version of the surficial geology within the SSB"--Introduction, page 4.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An index has been compiled of more than 200 surficial geology surveys that have been conducted on the Scotian Shelf. The co-ordinates for about 7,000 sample stations and 70,000 line kilometres of shallow seismic profiles have been plotted on four separate basemaps for the Scotian Shelf. Sources for the compilation include the Government of Canada, the oil and gas industry, various universities, and foreign agencies. Only 36 of the surveys are not in the public domain.

Book The Marine Geology of the Inner Scotian Shelf Off the South Shore Nova Scotia

Download or read book The Marine Geology of the Inner Scotian Shelf Off the South Shore Nova Scotia written by D. J. W. Piper and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1986 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The innermost 10 km of the South Shore coast is described, showing that bothbedrock and surficial geology are a continuation of that seen on land. Theoffshore geomorphology is essentially an extension of the Maritime peneplane, which has been modified to produce overdeepened basins, particularly ingranites. The bedrock surface is cut by sinuous, discontinuous, and anostomosing chaneels up to 60 m deep. A comprehensive account of late Wisconsinan and early Holocene stratigraphy and sedimentation in this coastaland inner shelf environment has been presented based on seismic profiles and the detailed study of sediments and fauna in 20 piston cores.

Book Quaternary Geology Cape Breton Island Nova Scotia

Download or read book Quaternary Geology Cape Breton Island Nova Scotia written by D. R. Grant and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes and explains the unconsolidated surface materials and landforms of Cape Breton Island, tracing the history of geological processes that shaped the area during the late Cenozoic time and emphasizing the previous interglacial period and the last glacial period. Initial field work was conducted in the summers of 1970 and 1971. Documentation of the surficial geological map units was by ground observation. Most of the coast was studied on foot, with the remainder by boat. Additional incidental observations, local stratigraphic studies, and traverse of new highland forestry access roads were made on an opportunity basis in 1974, 1976, 1982, 1993, and 1994.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expanded and updated edition of bestselling full-colour history of geological heritage in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI, featuring texts from experts and thousands of illustrations, including paintings, photographs, maps, and diagrams. The rocks and fossils of the Maritime Provinces of Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island) tell a fascinating story of the last billion years. The story unravels many surprises, for example: Halifax and southern Nova Scotia were once situated near the South Pole and attached to Africa. The positions of present-day Halifax and Saint John were once on separate continents. The red rocks of Prince Edward Island were formed in a monsoonal climate. Cliffs around the Bay of Fundy have yielded the oldest dinosaurs in Canada. As recently as 20,000 years thick ice covered the Maritimes and extended onto the continental shelf. These topics, and many more, are explored in this revised and updated edition of The Last Billion Years, a book for anyone interested in the origin and evolution of the Maritime Provinces. Beautifully and profusely illustrated in full colour, The Last Billion Years features original paintings of ancient vistas, photographs, and informative diagrams and sketches.
