Book excerpt: What is Menu Cost One of the costs that a company incurs as a result of adjusting its prices is referred to as the menu cost in economics. This is one of the microeconomic explanations that New Keynesian economists put up to explain the price-stickiness that exists in the macroeconomy. It was the expenditure that restaurants incur when they print fresh menus in order to adjust the prices of products that gave rise to the term. Nevertheless, economists have broadened the scope of its term to encompass the costs associated with altering prices in a more comprehensive sense. One way to categorize the expenses involved with the menu is as follows: costs associated with alerting the consumer, costs related with planning for and deciding on a price adjustment, and costs associated with the impact of consumers' probable reluctance to buy at the new price. The expenses associated with updating computer systems, re-tagging goods, changing signage, printing new menus, the costs associated with making mistakes, and the costs associated with employing consultants to establish new pricing strategies are all examples of menu costs. At the same time, businesses have the ability to lower the costs of their menus by implementing clever pricing strategies, which in turn reduces the need for constant adjustments. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eternal feminine wisdom synchronizes the human heartbeat with the heartbeat of the universe. The Dalai Lama famously proclaimed that Western Women can save the world. But many modern women (and men) are painfully dissociated from Sophia, their inner spring of feminine wisdom and the primal source of their power and nurturance. Western women from around the globe have deep archetypal roots that have lain dormant after millennia of patriarchal control. Sophia awaits collective rebirth and her portal for rebirth is through the heart. Sophia, who the ancient Greeks regarded as the goddess of wisdom, represents a threshold through which we can access the deep reserves of archetypal wisdom veiled within our hearts. “The eternal feminine hithers us on” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust II To reveal this wisdom, we must open ourselves to methods beyond logos, the masculine principle of logic and structure that underlies the scientific approaches characteristic of our “enlightened” age. Paradoxically, as we begin to lift Sophia’s veil, we encounter scientific profundity, proving that masculine and feminine are not fundamentally at odds. Sophia does not replace logos but instead offers a balancing perspective, a wisdom beyond sense perceptions. Through Sophia, the wisdom of the heart accelerates the evolution of humanity from one-sided logos to incorporate new forms of awareness —and through our collective evolution we also heal the soul of the world, anima mundi.

Book The Subtle Energy Body

Download or read book The Subtle Energy Body written by Maureen Lockhart and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-09-23 with total page 1059 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A global study of the psychospiritual body and its central role in the esoteric and spiritual traditions of the world • Explains the nature, purpose, and functions of the subtle body • Explores the role of the subtle body in such traditions as Alchemy, Ayurveda, Tantra, Qi Gong, and Yoga • Shows how the various layers of the subtle body provide a map for various levels of consciousness Ancient traditions of both the East and West have long maintained that the human being is a complex of material and nonmaterial systems, or energy bodies. The “subtle body” is an energetic, psychospiritual entity of several layers of increasing subtlety and metaphysical significance through which the aspirant seeks knowledge of the self and the nature of God. In many traditions, the component parts of the subtle body serve as a map of the different levels of consciousness. The practices and disciplines that evolved from an awareness and understanding of the subtle body, and how the material and nonmaterial work together, form a coherent system of psychospiritual transformation that is central to numerous and extremely diverse spiritual practices--including those of the Gnostics, Sufis, Native Americans, Vedic seers, Chinese, and Greeks. The subtle body plays an essential part in more recent traditions such as Anthroposophy and Gurdjieff’s Fourth Way and the cutting-edge science of Ervin Laszlo’s research into the Akashic field. But the benefits of understanding the role of the subtle energy body are not confined solely to the spiritual plane. The energetic bodies provide a coherent system of life-affirming principles and practices for the diagnosis and treatment of the whole person that is not only part of many traditional healing systems, such as Acupuncture and Ayurveda, but also is forming the basis for a synthesis of traditional and contemporary healing practices that could lay the foundation for the medicine of the future.

Book Unveiling Modernity in Twentieth Century West African Islamic Reforms

Download or read book Unveiling Modernity in Twentieth Century West African Islamic Reforms written by Ousman Kobo and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2012-08-27 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Ousman Kobo analyzes the origins of Wahhabi-inclined reform movements in two West African countries. Commonly associated with recent Middle Eastern influences, reform movements in Ghana and Burkina Faso actually began during the twilight of European colonial rule in the 1950s and developed from local doctrinal contests over Islamic orthodoxy. These early movements in turn gradually evolved in ways sympathetic to Wahhabi ideas. Kobo also illustrates the modernism of this style of Islamic reform. The decisive factor for most of the movements was the alliance of secularly educated Muslim elites with Islamic scholars to promote a self-consciously modern religiosity rooted in the Prophet Muhammad’s traditions. This book therefore provides a fresh understanding of the indigenous origins of “Wahhabism.”

Book Unveiling the Mysteries of the Last Days

Download or read book Unveiling the Mysteries of the Last Days written by David A. Hamblin and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since being written, the end-time prophecies of the Bible have been shrouded in mystery. Our world is now inundated with book after book on the subject of end-time interpretation. Often, the most important aspects of the Bible's prophecies are twisted or changed to fit the needs of a Hollywood movie. Expertly sifting through the modern fog covering these important prophecies, David Hamblin takes an exhaustive yet thoroughly readable approach to the study of the end times. Using the proven techniques of the scientific method, David put together a system of prophecy analysis that would allow for extremely complex theories to be tested against the many and varying passages of end times prophecy. Beginning with a solid faith in the Bible as the infallible Word of God, he now presents his findings in God's Prophetic Timeline. Never before has there been such a clear and concise presentation of God's timeline for the future, along with many passages that David admits we cannot yet understand. Written for the minister and layperson alike, it begins by explaining the church age and progresses through each of Revelation's seven phases, ending with new heaven and new earth. His approach details even subtle prophetic material, including Israel's future wealth, the world war it triggers, and Jesus' coronation. Don't be puzzled any longer by confusion on the subject of prophecy. Leave behind the many contradictory theories propagated by the misinformed. Follow along as God's Prophetic Timeline shows you, in detail, the tested, validated, and unified understanding of the Bible's prophecies.
