Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eternal feminine wisdom synchronizes the human heartbeat with the heartbeat of the universe. The Dalai Lama famously proclaimed that Western Women can save the world. But many modern women (and men) are painfully dissociated from Sophia, their inner spring of feminine wisdom and the primal source of their power and nurturance. Western women from around the globe have deep archetypal roots that have lain dormant after millennia of patriarchal control. Sophia awaits collective rebirth and her portal for rebirth is through the heart. Sophia, who the ancient Greeks regarded as the goddess of wisdom, represents a threshold through which we can access the deep reserves of archetypal wisdom veiled within our hearts. “The eternal feminine hithers us on” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust II To reveal this wisdom, we must open ourselves to methods beyond logos, the masculine principle of logic and structure that underlies the scientific approaches characteristic of our “enlightened” age. Paradoxically, as we begin to lift Sophia’s veil, we encounter scientific profundity, proving that masculine and feminine are not fundamentally at odds. Sophia does not replace logos but instead offers a balancing perspective, a wisdom beyond sense perceptions. Through Sophia, the wisdom of the heart accelerates the evolution of humanity from one-sided logos to incorporate new forms of awareness —and through our collective evolution we also heal the soul of the world, anima mundi.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Talking to the Gods explores the linkages between the imaginative literature and the occult beliefs and practices of four writers who were members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. William Butler Yeats, Arthur Machen, Algernon Blackwood, and Dion Fortune were all members of the occult organization for various periods from 1890 to 1930. Yeats, of course, is both a canonical and well-loved poet. Machen is revered as a master of the weird tale. Blackwood's work dealing with the supernatural was popular during the first half of the twentieth century and has been influential in the development of the fantasy genre. Fortune's books are acknowledged as harbingers of trends in second-wave feminist spirituality. Susan Johnston Graf examines practices, beliefs, and ideas engendered within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and demonstrates how these are manifest in each author's work, including Yeats's major theoretical work, A Vision.

Book excerpt: A passionate and deep exploration of how love is essential to our spiritual growth and development, from beloved author and teacher A. H. Almaas. Love is a universal energy--and a primary force that powers our movement toward spiritual illumination. All the ways we need love are simply reflections of our need for spiritual growth. In Love Unveiled, A. H. Almaas explores three dimensions of love: appreciative love--the true liking of somebody or something; merging or connecting love--a force that melts away separateness; and passionate, ecstatic love--capable of consuming us from inside. In their own way, each reveals the beauty and exquisiteness of our spiritual heart, which is the heart of the divine. However, the path of spiritual love is not without challenges. Almaas explores the barriers that tend to block our experience of loving awakening and provides experiential exercises throughout the book to help readers along their path. The exercises focus on the obstacles or misunderstandings that commonly arise for each quality or dimension of love. Presented in the form of writing or monologuing prompts, readers can work independently or in small groups to confront the emotional obstacles on their spiritual path. Regardless of where you are on your path, Love Unveiled will help you explore love in three essential dimensions and gain a deeper connection to yourself.

Book Theatrical Milton

Download or read book Theatrical Milton written by Brendan Prawdzik and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theatrical Milton brings coherence to the presence of theatre in John Milton through the concept of theatricality. In this book, 'theatricality' identifies a discursive field entailing the rhetorical strategies and effects of framing a given human action, including speech and writing, as an act of theatre. Political and theological cultures in seventeenth-century England developed a treasury of representational resources in order to stage-to satirize and, above all, to de-legitimate-rhetors of politics, religion, and print. At the core of Milton's works is a contradictory relation to theatre that has neither been explained nor properly explored. This book changes the terms of scholarly discussion and discovers how the social structures of theatre afforded Milton resources for poetic and polemical representation and uncovers the precise contours of Milton's interest in theatre and drama.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jelena Bango (aka Helene Kvajic Rochstein), grew up in the land of the crossroads of cultures. She was born in Belgrade, in 1939, former Yougoslavija, at the beginning of the Second World War. During the war, Jelena’s father, a Makedonian, disappeared. Almost immediately, her mother being from Croatia, moved the baby Jelena into Legrad, a small village in her native country. There, Jelena grew up sheltered by the Catholic nuns of the village church and by the quietness of the almost mystical surroundings of the rivers Drava and Mura. Jelena’s heart was always wide open to God, while at the same time, her mind was open to learning about other cultures and other religions. Under the guidance of the hidden hand of God, Jelena relocated to Paris, France, and shortly after to Montreal, Canada. There she married into the Eastern Orthodox religious culture. She could never understand the reasons for religious separation of the churches and this was a hidden pain of her heart. Several years later, the family moved briefly to New York and then to the East Coast of Florida. Jelena continued her search for God and for the meaning of life. She became an enthusiastic student of the Ancient Wisdom and philosophy. The hidden Hand of God then thrust her into the Jewish mystical and cultural environment. This gave Jelena the opportunity to open deeper the path of Light at the call of her soul. Today, Jelena understands more profoundly other peoples’ struggles for Light, and she appreciates more deeply her own religion. Poetry writing was the means of her heart’s language. Poetry could easily open the gates of the muses. The entire universe became Jelena’s garden filled with flowers of many forms and of delightful colors. Jelena is grateful to all and to everyone who graciously contributed to the growth of her soul into light.

Book excerpt: After a survey of recent approaches to the study of Paul's use of Scripture, the four main chapters explore the use of Isa. 54:1 in Gal. 4:27, the catena of scriptural texts in 2 Cor. 6:16-18, Hos. 1:10 and 2:23 in Rom. 9:25-26 and Isa. 57:19 in Eph. 2:17. In each case, the ancienwriter seeks to place the letter in its historical context and rhetorical situation, identify the significance of any conflations or modifications that have taken place in the citation process, analyse the citation's function within its immediate context, compare its use by Paul with the various ways in which the text is interpreted and appropriated by other Second Temple writers, and evaluate the main proposals offered as explanations for the riddle posed by the citation. That done, he offers his own account of the hermeneutic at work, based on an analysis of the explicit and implicit hermeneutical pointers through which the letter guides its readers in their appropriation of Scripture. This book compares the hermeneutical approaches of the four letters and draws conclusionsconcerning the interplay of continuity and discontinuity between Scripture and gospel in Paul's letters and the relationship between grace and Gentile inclusion in his theology.
