Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unter dem Siegel der Nekropole 5 Andrew Chugg The Lost Tombs of the Last Pharaohs. The purpose of this fresh article is to present new evidence that connects the sarcophagus of the last 30th Dynasty pharaoh, Nectanebo II, currently displayed in the British Museum, with a fragment of Macedonian funerary sculpture from the middle of the Ptolemaic period, which is now in Venice. The context of this connection is the search for the missing tombs (there were at least three in Egypt) of Alexander the Great. Michael E. Habicht Meta-database of cranial measurements from Ancient Egypt and Nubia. The study presents a complex and extended database of the morphology of skulls and (partly) also for the body proportion in Ancient Egypt through all periods. The database covers the Predynastic time to the Roman period, males and females. In addition, available data on the Royal families are added. Book Meritaton The Unknown Queen of Akhet Aton and Ankhesenamun The Queen Consort of Tutankhamun

Download or read book Meritaton The Unknown Queen of Akhet Aton and Ankhesenamun The Queen Consort of Tutankhamun written by Marie Elisabeth Habicht and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-12-28 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meritaton The title of the book refers to Meritaton as the unknown Queen of Akhet-Aton. Indeed, she is difficult to define, one of her trademarks in iconographic art is the bald head and often she does not wear any cloths. The book tries to collect important information and images of the Queen that might have played a pivotal role in the transition of the falling Amarna period back to the conventional state concept under King Tutankhamun. Ankhesenamun The book deals with the life and death of Ankhesenamun, the queen consort at Tutankhamun's side, which can be reconstructed from historical sources. The question of whether she was the mysterious Dahamunzu, who wrote a strange letter to the hostile king of the Hittites, is discussed in detail. On the basis of the images that can be attributed to her, an attempt is also made to define the appearance of Ankhesenamun and to suggest possible mummies, which are discussed in the research (KV 21A or CG 61076). It is possible, however, that the burial of Ankhesenamun has not yet been found, for there are no traces that would indicate a looted tomb.

Book excerpt: Ke-ra-me-ja is a woman's name that appears on a Linear B tablet from Knossos. It means "potter" (Κεράμεια, from Greek κέραμος, "potter's clay") and combines two major strands of Cynthia Shelmerdine's scholarly pursuits: Mycenaean ceramics and Linear B texts. It thereby signals her pioneering use of archaeological and textual data in a sophisticated and integrated way. The intellectual content of the essays presented to her in this volume demonstrate not only that her research has had a wide-ranging influence, but also that it is a model of scholarship to be emulated.

Book Formation of elites and elitist lifestyles from Mycenaen palatial times to the Homeric period

Download or read book Formation of elites and elitist lifestyles from Mycenaen palatial times to the Homeric period written by Sigrid Deger-Jalkotzy and published by Austrian Academy of Sciences Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of the congress anthology Keimelion is the consumer behaviour of the Aegean elite population, including strategies such as conspicuous consumption, through the period of the Mycenaean palace states to the post-palatial period and the new formation of the Greek world in the first millennium B.C. New interpretations of the Homeric epics as well as the numerous archaeological finds of recent years have promoted an increased understanding of the elite population of these periods. Among other things, this group defined itself through conspicuous consumption in order to distinguish itself as elite from the rest of the population and their neighbours. At the same time these elitist strategies were used to secure the following of the common people, and in diplomacy, to display prominence and establish international contacts.
