Book Unsteady Flow Phenomena in Centrifugal Turbomachinery

Download or read book Unsteady Flow Phenomena in Centrifugal Turbomachinery written by D. A. Fink and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research is an experimental investigation of system dynamics, unsteady effects, and detailed flow instabilities in a centrifugal compressor. The surge line, which marks the onset of instability and hence limits the minimum stable operating regime, is a primary design constraint in matching the compressor to downstream turbine and combustor (gas turbine gas generator) or diesel engine (turbocharger). the ultimate goal of this research is a thorough understanding of the events occurring in the compression system which cause surge.

Book Unsteady Flow in Turbomachinery

Download or read book Unsteady Flow in Turbomachinery written by Ronald Mailach and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main source of unsteadiness in the stable operating range of turbomachinery is the aerodynamical interaction of the rotor and stator rows. The blades and vanes, moving relatively to each other, interact due to viscous wakes, secondary flow phenomena as well as potential effects. As a result of this, the real flow field is highly periodically unsteady and very complex, especially in multistage engines. These effects are not yet typically addressed in current design systems of turbomachinery. It is therefore a challenge to include beneficial unsteady and secondary flow effects to improve the engine performance. This requires a detailed physical understanding of the flow field as well as the resulting influences on performance and flow stability. The present work focuses on the effects appearing in multistage axial compressors. Different aspects of blade row interactions in a four-stage low-speed compressor are discussed in comparison to the existing physical understanding. This includes experimental results on the periodical unsteady flow field within the axial gaps between the blade rows as well as the flow field within the rotor blade passages. Furthermore, the unsteady behaviour of the blade boundary layer is considered. Other discussed aspects are the influence of wakes and potential effects on the unsteady profile pressures and the excited blade pressure forces. With this work a comprehensive picture on the different features of blade row interaction is drawn."--Back cover.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Worked Examples in Turbomachinery (Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics) is a publication designed to supplement the materials in Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics of Turbomachinery, Second Edition. The title provides detailed solution for the unanswered problems from the main textbook. The text first covers dimensional analysis, and then proceeds to tackling thermodynamics. Next, the selection discusses two-dimensional cascades. The text also talks about axial flow turbines and compressors, along with the three-dimensional flow in axial turbo machines. Chapter 7 covers centrifugal compressor and pumps, while Chapter 8 tackles radial flow turbines. The book will be of great use to students of mechanical engineering, particularly those who have access to the main textbook.

This book was released on 1976 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In designing the blading of a compressor or turbine the airflow is assumed to be steady. In reality the flow must always be unsteady. Small-scale disturbances arise from the proximity of passing blades; sometimes large scale disturbances result from distorted inlet flows. In a compressor, self-excited large scale disturbances may occur in the form of rotating stall. These unsteady effects are important because they may limit the range of efficient operation, or they may excite destructive blade vibrations. During recent years, improved instruments have enabled unsteady flows to be measured within cascades and turbomachines. The attention of the Meeting will be focussed on the improved understanding so obtained of the fluid mechanics of unsteady turbomachinery flows, the ways in which this understanding can be expressed in theoretical models, and the practical application of the research to turbomachinery design. Book Developments in Turbomachinery Flow

Download or read book Developments in Turbomachinery Flow written by Nader Montazerin and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Turbomachinery Flow: Forward Curved Centrifugal Fans explores the forward curved squirrel cage fan as an excellent instrument for fluid mechanics research in turbomachines. The book explores phenomena such as jet/wake interaction, circulation, separation and noise in turbomachines, also addressing the characteristics that are specific to this fan and applications in other centrifugal turbomachines. Chapters begin with a general introduction that includes research techniques and a survey of older research, and then proceed into a detailed description of improvements for different parts of the fan, including the inlet, the rotor and the volute. Final sections include a comprehensive discussion on geometrical modifications that could improve performance without impacting cost. Explores how forward curved centrifugal fans have wide industrial application Discusses the strong trade-off between fan aerodynamics and construction cost Provides a wide selection of optimums for geometrical configuration Introduces new geometries that can improve performance and reduce noise for the same construction cost Presents fluid phenomena as a potential research field for this fan

Book Aerospace Turbomachinery Flow Physics

Download or read book Aerospace Turbomachinery Flow Physics written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document constitutes the final report on a multi-investigator research program on "Aerospace Turbo machinery Flow Physics". The research program encompasses the following four technical areas: (1) Flutter clearance in aircraft engine compressors (2) Physics of coolant/main flow interactions in advanced aircraft/rocket turbines (3) Tip clearance flow effects in axial and centrifugal turbomachines (4) Use of an active rotor to delineate parametric dependence of aerodynamic damping A common theme that threaded through these research areas is three dimensional and/or unsteady flow phenomena, and the enhancement of overall performance of turbomachines through flow management and design. In other words it is our view that the primary challenges to achieving increased overall performance of turbomachines are linked to local phenomena which are inherently three-dimensional and/or unsteady.

This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this second revised and extended edition, the readers have a solid source of information for designing state-of-the art turbomachinery components and systems at hand. Based on fundamental principles of turbomachinery thermo-fluid mechanics, numerous CFD based calculation methods are being developed to simulate the complex 3-dimensional, highly unsteady turbulent flow within turbine or compressor stages.
