Book Unsteady Aerodynamic Forces on an Oscillating Wing at High Incidences and Flow Separation

Download or read book Unsteady Aerodynamic Forces on an Oscillating Wing at High Incidences and Flow Separation written by H. W. Foersching and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on wind tunnel measurements on a low-aspect-ratio trapezoidal half-wing model in incompressible flow, some characteristic features of motion-induced unsteady airloads at high incidences and flow separation are presented and discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the effect of the motion of the wing on the flow separation processes and on the investigation of the interactions between the separated flow phenomena on the stationary wing and the motion-induced unsteady airloads on the oscillating wing. It is shown that these air-loads are strongly affected by the flow separations and that their prediction from inviscid potential-flow theory may lead to rather unrealistic results in buffeting response calculations.

Book Fundamentals of Modern Unsteady Aerodynamics

Download or read book Fundamentals of Modern Unsteady Aerodynamics written by Ülgen Gülçat and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-31 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the author introduces the concept of unsteady aerodynamics and its underlying principles. He provides the readers with a comprehensive review of the fundamental physics of free and forced unsteadiness, the terminology and basic equations of aerodynamics ranging from incompressible flow to hypersonics. The book also covers modern topics related to the developments made in recent years, especially in relation to wing flapping for propulsion. The book is written for graduate and senior year undergraduate students in aerodynamics and also serves as a reference for experienced researchers. Each chapter includes ample examples, questions, problems and relevant references. The treatment of these modern topics has been completely revised end expanded for the new edition. It now includes new numerical examples, a section on the ground effect, and state-space representation.

Download or read book Engineered Biomimicry written by Akhlesh Lakhtakia and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-05-24 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineered Biomimicry covers a broad range of research topics in the emerging discipline of biomimicry. Biologically inspired science and technology, using the principles of math and physics, has led to the development of products as ubiquitous as VelcroTM (modeled after the spiny hooks on plant seeds and fruits). Readers will learn to take ideas and concepts like this from nature, implement them in research, and understand and explain diverse phenomena and their related functions. From bioinspired computing and medical products to biomimetic applications like artificial muscles, MEMS, textiles and vision sensors, Engineered Biomimicry explores a wide range of technologies informed by living natural systems. Engineered Biomimicry helps physicists, engineers and material scientists seek solutions in nature to the most pressing technical problems of our times, while providing a solid understanding of the important role of biophysics. Some physical applications include adhesion superhydrophobicity and self-cleaning, structural coloration, photonic devices, biomaterials and composite materials, sensor systems, robotics and locomotion, and ultra-lightweight structures. Explores biomimicry, a fast-growing, cross-disciplinary field in which researchers study biological activities in nature to make critical advancements in science and engineering Introduces bioinspiration, biomimetics, and bioreplication, and provides biological background and practical applications for each Cutting-edge topics include bio-inspired robotics, microflyers, surface modification and more

Book Unsteady Aerodynamics

Download or read book Unsteady Aerodynamics written by Eric Joe Stephen and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This task addressed basic research to better understand unsteady, separated flows and to utilize this understanding to develop innovative concepts to control unsteady aerodynamic phenomena to enhance flight vehicle maneuverability. This effort sought to expand the flight performance boundaries by developing a capability to maneuver in the high-angle-of-attack, post-stall flight regime. ... The research was organized around two broad topical areas: (1) understanding and predicting the dynamics of unsteady, separated flows and (2) controlling unsteady, separated flows to enhance aerodynamic performance. Several types of flow fields were studied to gain an understanding of unsteady, separated flows. These included flow over rectangular wings, flow over delta wing, flow over forebodies and flow in the vicinity of the tail on a fighter type aircraft. The studies were both computational and experimental. Control efforts focused on the pulsed blowing to maintain attached flow, continuous blowing to control vortex breakdown on delta wing, and the use of neural networks to predict and control unsteady aerodynamic forces."--Summary.
