Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part personal testimony, part journey of self-discovery and transformation, this book is for any adult who has experienced abuse and trauma early in life. It's the book the author wished she had to help her navigate the realities of being different while not socially or culturally fitting in with her peers. Because of the dysfunctional family she was born into, the author spent her childhood in the Foster Care System. Even as a young adult, she felt misjudged, overlooked, and counted out of many opportunities because unhealed childhood trauma and underdeveloped life skills influenced her actions, attitudes, belief systems and choices. Like the author, you too may have become good acquaintances with masking resulting in Imposter Syndrome. Your feelings of shame, guilt, or even regret because of past hurts resulted because of wrongfully owing responsibility for what happened to you. Though you feel the negative impact of this life sucking energy robbing you of peace, joy, meaningful relationships, and a hope for a joy filled future, you're unsure of how to do life differently. The author kindly invites you to journey alongside her as you work to unpack your closet of trauma drama which led you to wearing masks as a survival mechanism. Though these pages you will begin to see what you've never seen as you interact with complete vulnerability (unmasked that is). Accepting this invitation will result in you growing in love toward yourself. If you are ready to experience a new level of confidence and maybe for the first time in your life, enjoy a version of yourself that you've only dreamed of grab a pen, a quiet space, and flip the page. This book is a mixture of the author's personal experiences with childhood abuse, trauma, and the process used to transform her life. Her intimate sharing is sprinkled with scripture readings for those who are saved but still struggle. It will enlighten and encourage you to move toward freeing yourself bit by bit from the beautiful person you know but has yet to introduced to the world. Through journaling prompts, you will be inspired to be honest with yourself about past hurts and destructive habits, while giving you practical tools to help you show up unapologetically, without the masks to achieve the personal freedom your soul years for. Here's what you will learn in this book: WHY me...? Understanding who you are and the purpose for which your Creator made you is a critical foundational understanding you must work to become clear on. You will have opportunities to evaluate the importance of your faith as you gain hope for your future. Now WHAT...? You will be encouraged to take a journey after every chapter. Be prepared to be strengthened as you authentically own your trauma experiences. By answering questions and journaling your hidden thoughts, you are working to release years of shame, guilt or regret that causes you to mask your greatness. But HOW...? Practical tools you can use repeatedly as you practice being fully honest with yourself and others in a healthy way.

Book Unmasking the Pain Poetry Journal

Download or read book Unmasking the Pain Poetry Journal written by Alicia Brennen and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2006-12-06 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of 'Unmasking The Pain' is not to male-bash or take revenge on the men who have hurt me. Its true purpose is to help men and women alike confront the issues in their lives that prevent them from experiencing healthy, happy, secure, mature relationships. I have tried to sound off to other women, but I find that too many are in denial and are still trying to cover up the reality of their own pain. Many times, by the time you finish sharing with them, the women friends are off gossiping about your problem with others rather than sitting with you, holding your hand and walking with you through the pain. I tried to tell the men in my life what pain they were causing, but they did not want to take responsibility for their behavior and blamed me for everything. I even bared my soul early in a new relationship, I guess, hoping he would understand what I had been through and not hurt me too. However, my sounding board soon became my dartboard as he very quickly inflicted new hurt upon old, unhealed wounds. It was then that I woke up to the reality that hurting people, unwilling to confront what ails them, are incapable of loving, only hurting. And so, I write. I write for myself. It only took a little over a week to express myself in these words but this book represents over twenty years of hurt and pain that I carried all bottled up inside. Writing this book has served as a much needed release valve as I found that expressing my pain in this way provided good therapy for a wounded heart. I call it my 11-day Therapeutic Wonder! I write for all my children: Andrew, Zoe, Destiny and the yet unborn (Danielle, born 2002). I do not want my son to become the kind of men expressed in thesepages. Neither do I want my daughters to experience this kind of pain at the hands of emotionally crippled men. So if I can help them to make good choices from an early age then my labor would not have been in vain. Also I hope to influence other fathers and mothers to commit to raising emotionally healthy sons and daughters. After all, it may be one of their children who has a relationship with one of mine. I write for the next generation. The women of the generation before me are not talking. No one ever told me about the hurts and pain. And no one ever told me how to get over. Many of them have not gotten over themselves, living lives of bitterness and anger, denying the existence of pain buried and suppressed for years on end. And until they are willing to confront their own issues and deal with the bad choices of the past they will continue on in their emotionally crippled state. They need healing too. I write because I want to be a stepping-stone and not a stumbling block to the generation of younger women who are hurting today and in need of answers. Sometimes just knowing that you are not alone is the first in the step towards healing. I write because raw naked emotions like, love and pain, scare people. We cannot run away from who we really are. Our ability to love and experience emotions like joy and pain is what separates us from the lower animal order. They make us human. And when we deny and suppress these feelings we become inhumane. I write because I want to open wounds, unmask pain and confront issues that we do not want to address. And until we women and men begin to look at ourselves, and this pattern of destructive behavior constantly being played out in our adultlives, we will never heal and experience the joy of happy relationships, rich in positive emotions. Healthy relationships we can model for our children. I write because I want to end the Cycle of Abuse! This book is more than a book of poetry. The book is deliberately designed as a help tool and is divided into two sections: Poetic Expressions and Private Journal. Poetic Expressions is where I took the time I needed to express myself. Private Journey is to give you an opportunity to express yourself in response to eac

Book It s Not Personal Unmasking Offense

Download or read book It s Not Personal Unmasking Offense written by Dena Hoover and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-12-05 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you had your feelings hurt? Or maybe, you have hurt someone's feelings. This should come as no surprise as God's Word tells us in Luke 17:1 that "It is impossible that no offenses should come." In this bold biblical-based Bible study, the truth that God's people are ripping each other apart by their words and actions will be clear. But don't stop there: the encouraging word is that we do not have to stay this way. Whether we are doing the offending or we are the offended, we are walking away with hurts no Band-Aid can fix. Dena's heart's desire is that through the power of God's Word and the healing only Jesus can bring, we will not only be healed but learn how to do things differently. Her hope is that we will learn not to take things personally and yet keep our sensitivity. God thinks very highly of His children. She wants you to know how valued you are in the Kingdom. We have a role in God's plan. But we are too busy licking our wounds and out of hurt, inflicting hurt on each other. We have to get our focus back on our purpose. God created us in His image (Gen. 1:27), which is love. However, somewhere in our journey we have begun to devour like the enemy (1 Pet. 5:8). Through this twelve-week study, you will reconnect with the Savior and begin to allow the brick wall to come down that over time has grown to protect your heart. God will show you that the wall of protecting only imprisons. Allow yourself to be free!

Book excerpt: A deep dive into the spectrum of Autistic experience and the phenomenon of masked Autism, giving individuals the tools to safely uncover their true selves while broadening society’s narrow understanding of neurodiversity “A remarkable work that will stand at the forefront of the neurodiversity movement.”—Barry M. Prizant, PhD, CCC-SLP, author of Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism For every visibly Autistic person you meet, there are countless “masked” Autistic people who pass as neurotypical. Masking is a common coping mechanism in which Autistic people hide their identifiably Autistic traits in order to fit in with societal norms, adopting a superficial personality at the expense of their mental health. This can include suppressing harmless stims, papering over communication challenges by presenting as unassuming and mild-mannered, and forcing themselves into situations that cause severe anxiety, all so they aren’t seen as needy or “odd.” In Unmasking Autism, Dr. Devon Price shares his personal experience with masking and blends history, social science research, prescriptions, and personal profiles to tell a story of neurodivergence that has thus far been dominated by those on the outside looking in. For Dr. Price and many others, Autism is a deep source of uniqueness and beauty. Unfortunately, living in a neurotypical world means it can also be a source of incredible alienation and pain. Most masked Autistic individuals struggle for decades before discovering who they truly are. They are also more likely to be marginalized in terms of race, gender, sexual orientation, class, and other factors, which contributes to their suffering and invisibility. Dr. Price lays the groundwork for unmasking and offers exercises that encourage self-expression, including: • Celebrating special interests • Cultivating Autistic relationships • Reframing Autistic stereotypes • And rediscovering your values It’s time to honor the needs, diversity, and unique strengths of Autistic people so that they no longer have to mask—and it’s time for greater public acceptance and accommodation of difference. In embracing neurodiversity, we can all reap the rewards of nonconformity and learn to live authentically, Autistic and neurotypical people alike.
