Book Unlocking the Chinese Gate

  • Author : Galia Dor
  • Publisher : State University of New York Press
  • Release : 2024-05-01

Download or read book Unlocking the Chinese Gate written by Galia Dor and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2024-05-01 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlocking the Chinese Gate offers an innovative analysis of gates in early Chinese thought and material culture. Observing gates from various perspectives—including philosophy, architecture, and psychology—and through the conceptual lens of Chinese correlative thinking, Galia Dor conceptualizes the Chinese gate as a membrane-like apparatus that, from the space "in-between," efficaciously manifests (de) the Way (dao) into the "ten thousand" forms of actualized life. This methodology exposes an open-to-closed gradation between pairs of inside/outside (wai/nei) that resonates throughout the Chinese model of psychocosmic concentric circles. The consequential strategies (e.g., continuity/break, chaos/order) demonstrate how early Chinese cosmological, philosophical, and political idealities, as well as afterlife religious beliefs, were applied—including the various approaches to and practices of self-cultivation. The book sheds new light on ancient Chinese thought and material culture and offers points of comparison to Western thought and modern science, including a model of "decision-gating" that carries relevant implications and insights to our current lives.

Book Unlocking the Blue Door

Download or read book Unlocking the Blue Door written by Margaret Schweitzer and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grief is the best known conversation killer in polite society. The subject of death, whenever it arises, is either joked about or quickly discontinued in embarrassed silence. As we so often hear (and say), life is for the living. But what do you do when you experience grief first-hand? For many, it is the most uncomfortable and frightening event of their lives and one that they have had minimal exposure to at best. Close contacts who should have been on hand to help are nowhere to be seen. Unlocking The Blue Door helps the bereaved navigate this most difficult of journeys with practical tips in plain language. Topics include the loss of friends, coping skills, forgiveness, children and grief, and learning how to get through the worst of days. There is also advice on how to support and communicate with someone who is grieving. Written from a female perspective with compassion and understanding, the guide provides a safe space to begin healing. The information is compiled from many hours of frank and confidential discussion between the author and those who are (and were) actively grieving. This book may be paraphrased to help young children in their pain and loss, but it is written for an adult audience. Proceeds from the sale of this book are donated to agencies that support mental health program initiatives.

Book Unlocking the Puzzle

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Oliver Smith
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2016-11-22

  • Pages : 325 pages

Download or read book Unlocking the Puzzle written by David Oliver Smith and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-11-22 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A shorter, simpler first draft of the Gospel of Mark has been theorized by New Testament scholars for almost two hundred years. Using literary tools, David Oliver Smith strips away interpolation and redaction from the canonical Gospel to reveal that long-sought first draft--the Original Gospel of Mark. Original Mark, shorter than the canonical version and with several large blocks of text replaced in their original locations, reveals a coherent structure and a different picture of who Jesus is. But it is anything other than simple. The Original Gospel also presents puzzles for the curious reader of Mark to solve, and Smith has found the keys to their solution. Analysis of the text that was interpolated into Mark reveals who that redactor might have been. Evidence is presented that it was the author of the Gospel of Luke who redacted the first-written Gospel, jumbled its structure, and changed its Christology. Follow the analysis of literary structures created by the genius who wrote Mark's Gospel and discover the astounding design of the Original Gospel of Mark.
