Book Fintech Nation The Excellence Unlocked In Singapore

Download or read book Fintech Nation The Excellence Unlocked In Singapore written by Varun Mittal and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-10-23 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Singapore's FinTech journey has been a story of relentless pursuit of excellence to build a global financial service hub with limited means and lots of aspirations. The slogan of 'Dream big. Start small. Move fast' has rallied regulators, startups, investors, corporates and everyone else to achieve a common goal. One of the critical superpowers of Singapore is a national character built on survival instinct and a distinctive obsession with being successful. Singaporeans by nature are kiasu (a Hokkien word which can be loosely translated to fear of missing out), and they wear it as a badge of honour. Being kiasu drives Singaporeans to be constantly paranoid, doing everything they can to achieve success. It creates a certain fanaticism about meritocracy and instils a belief that one can never be complacent. In a regulated industry, our fear is our biggest strength, pushing us to comply with a wide range of ever-evolving regulations. The durable social fabric supports an adherence to order and authority. It proves to be a significant asset when it comes to developing and supporting a heavily regulated industry like financial services.Singapore attracts people across the region to build their ventures in the domains of finance and technology. This book traces Singapore's journey from 2015 till today starting with establishment of regional hubs and globalisation of FinTech innovation. The key principles which established Singapore as a FinTech Nation have been an obsession with excellence referred to as RFFL (Right First, Fast Later), a unique model of economic and legal policies known as Singanomics and lastly, an organised and controlled model of a new idea development termed Garden Innovation.

Book excerpt: Nobody makes it out of their teenage years without scars. We are all plagued with self-doubt, angst and general teenage discomfort. We have all experienced first loves and unbreakable friendships. We have all been betrayed, and we have all had our hearts broken. On top of the emotional turmoil of normal teenage life, many of us are faced with another darker challenge. My teenage years were plagued in depression, consumed by thoughts of self-loathing, paranoia, and self-harm that festered secretly out of control, almost resulting in the taking of my own life. However, it is how we carry and accept these memories in our adult lives that can make the difference, and finally lead us to happiness. It is the trials and hardships we face, just as much as the joy and love we experience, that allow us to become the people we were always meant to be. We must make ourselves.

Book excerpt: How the smartphone can become a personal concierge (not a stalker) in the mobile marketing revolution of smarter companies, value-seeking consumers, and curated offers. Consumers create a data trail by tapping their phones; businesses can tap into this trail to harness the power of the more than three trillion dollar mobile economy. According to Anindya Ghose, a global authority on the mobile economy, this two-way exchange can benefit both customers and businesses. In Tap, Ghose welcomes us to the mobile economy of smartphones, smarter companies, and value-seeking consumers. Drawing on his extensive research in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and on a variety of real-world examples from companies including Alibaba, China Mobile, Coke, Facebook, SK Telecom, Telefónica, and Travelocity, Ghose describes some intriguingly contradictory consumer behavior: people seek spontaneity, but they are predictable; they find advertising annoying, but they fear missing out; they value their privacy, but they increasingly use personal data as currency. When mobile advertising is done well, Ghose argues, the smartphone plays the role of a personal concierge—a butler, not a stalker. Ghose identifies nine forces that shape consumer behavior, including time, crowdedness, trajectory, and weather, and he examines these how these forces operate, separately and in combination. With Tap, he highlights the true influence mobile wields over shoppers, the behavioral and economic motivations behind that influence, and the lucrative opportunities it represents. In a world of artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, wearable technologies, smart homes, and the Internet of Things, the future of the mobile economy seems limitless.

Book The Tome of Ding

Download or read book The Tome of Ding written by Terence Dingwall and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-06-24 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a series of anecdotes from my misspent youth as I went over to the dark side and got involved with motorcycles. If you are into motorcycles, planes, cars, and things to do with boats, I have a few stories to tell you. It is an interest in colonial Kenya and New Zealand life as seen in the eyes of a guy from long ago and far away. It has stories from my ninety-seven-year-old dad in Seychelles, his WWII service, his deals with his experiences in the Mau Mau Emergency in Kenya, and him bringing his family to New Zealand in the sixties. In the seventies and eighties, I served my twenty years in the RNZAF, putting down a lot of my mishaps and adventures in an interesting time domestically and overseas.
