This book was released on 2016-07-01 with total page 887 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book A Handbook on the Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith

Download or read book A Handbook on the Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith written by Craig Evans and published by Hendrickson Publishers. This book was released on 2021-04-18 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Handbook on the Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith is a comprehensive handbook that serves as an introduction to the Jewish roots of the Christian Faith. It includes Old Testament background, Second Temple Judaism, the life of Jesus, the New Testament, and the early Jewish followers of Jesus. It is intended as a resource for college and/or higher education. It is no longer a novelty to say that Jesus was a Jew. In fact, the term Jewish roots has become something of a buzzword in books, articles, and especially on the internet. But what does the Jewishness of Jesus actually mean, and why is it important? This collection of articles aims to address those questions and serve as a comprehensive yet concise primer on the Jewish roots of the Christian faith. It consists of thirteen chapters, most of which are divided into four or five articles. It is in a “handbook” format, meaning that each article is brief but informative. The thirteen chapters are grouped into four major sections: (1) The Soil, (2) The Roots, (3) The Trunk, and (4) The Branches. Craig A. Evans, PhD, DHabil, is the John Bisagno Distinguished Professor of Christian Origins at Houston Baptist University in Texas. He is a frequent contributor to scholarly journals and the author or editor of over seventy books. Evans resides in Houston, TX. David Mishkin, PhD, serves on the faculty of Israel College of the Bible in Netanya, Israel. He is the author of The Wisdom of Alfred Edersheim and Jewish Scholarship on the Resurrection of Jesus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faith, doubt, and reason are universal human faculties, yet they are frequently misunderstood, denigrated, and even abused. What does it mean to have faith, and what distinguishes faith from belief? Can someone have faith without religious commitments? What is doubt, and what is its relationship to faith and belief? How do we make sense of evil and suffering? What roles does reason play in our lives? What do we do when we have the sneaking suspicion that life is absurd? What do we love, and what do we fear? How do faith, doubt, and reason interrelate? Faith, doubt, and reason not only can work together: they must work together if we are to live lives of meaning and purpose. This book explores the significance of these three universal human faculties and the central role they play in our quest for the meaning of life. Drawing on classic texts in theology, philosophy, literature, and the Bible, Faith, Doubt, and Reason invites readers to delve deeply into the quest for the meaning of life in all its ambiguity, mystery, and tragic beauty.

Book The Contender Vol 15 No 4

Download or read book The Contender Vol 15 No 4 written by Rev. Raymond Jackson and published by Faith Assembly Church. This book was released on 1983-05-15 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WE HAVE ALREADY PUBLISHED AN ARTICLE DEALING WITH THE HUMANITY AND THE DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST, AND WE HAVE TESTIMONY THAT IT HAS ALREADY BEEN A GREAT BLESSING TO MANY PEOPLE BUT SOMEHOW I FEEL THAT WE CAN APPROACH THIS SUBJECT FROM A LITTLE DIFFERENT ANGLE AND OPEN UP A MUCH DEEPER REVELATION. I BELIEVE WE CAN TAKE VARIOUS SCRIPTURES, AND ALLOW THE HOLY GHOST TO PLACE THEM IN THEIR PROPER ORDER OF UNDERSTANDING TO THE POINT WHERE WE WILL GET RIGHT TO THE VERY HEART OF THIS GODHEAD REVELATION. IF THE ONENESS PENTECOST PEOPLE COULD HAVE SEEN WHAT I SEE HERE IN THESE SCRIPTURES, THEY COULD HAVE PRESENTED A ONE GOD REVELATION TO TRINITY PENTECOSTALS THAT MIGHT NOT HAVE SEEMED SO RIDICULOUS TO THEM. HOW-EVER WE DO REALIZE THAT ONLY THE SPIRIT OF GOD CAN OPEN UP THE SCRIPTURES TO OUR UNDERSTANDING, AND THAT IS DONE ONLY WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT. THEREFORE REGARDLESS OF WHAT WE MAY SEE, OR SAY, IN THIS HOUR OF TIME, I AM FULLY PERSUADED THAT GOD HAS BEEN RUNNING HIS REDEMPTION PROGRAM, AND THAT NOTHING OF ANY BENEFIT TO OUR SOUL’S SALVATION IS GIVEN TO US PREMATURELY. HE IS AL-WAYS RIGHT ON TIME, NEVER LATE, AND NEVER EARLY. THIS LAST DAY ELEMENT OF THE BRIDE OF CHRIST IS BEING DEALT WITH IN A WAY THAT NO OTHER AGE EVER HAS TO THIS POINT, AND IT IS ALL BEING DONE TO MOLD SOME PEOPLE INTO THE VERY IMAGE OF JESUS CHRIST, SO THAT WHEN HE COMES FOR THEM THEY WILL BE LIKE HIM. THERE WILL BE NO ONE GOING IN THE RAPTURE THAT IS STILL EXPECTING TO SEE THREE PERSONS IN HEAVEN, ALL THREE BEING CALLED GOD. BUT NATURALLY WE CANNOT GIVE ANYONE A REVELATION. ALL WE CAN DO IS LEAD THEM TO THE SCRIPTURES THAT REVELATION COMES THROUGH, AND THAT IS WHAT WE ARE ASKING GOD TO HELP US DO.
