Book The Physical Environment and Behavior

Download or read book The Physical Environment and Behavior written by Joachim F. Wohlwill and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of "Environment-and-Behavior" This bibliography is aimed at the researcher and advanced student working in the field of environmental psychology, as it has come to be designated over the past decade. A more appropriate term might be "environment-behavior studies," to suggest the important characteristic of this field as one that transcends the province of the psychologist, and brings together workers, as well as problems, methods, and concepts from a great diversity of disciplines and professional fields. Among these we may include geography and sociology, architecture, landscape architecture and planning, forestry, natural resource management and leisure and recreation research -- to name only the most important of the diverse fields from which material for this bibliography has been drawn. This is in fact one of the primary reasons for our belief in the value of such a volume. The literature in the environment-behavior field is scattered through the most diverse sources, including not only the major periodical and monographic literature in each of the above-mentioned disciplines and professions (and others as well), but also a variety of more specialized publications of varying degrees of accessibility. Thus it seemed to us helpful to the researcher, teacher and student in this area to bring this far-flung literature together in a single volume, that might be used as a guide to the field. We aimed at a comprehensive treatment, including both basic and applied aspects, and relations of behavior both to the man-made or artificial and to the natural environment.

Book Environmental Design Evaluation

Download or read book Environmental Design Evaluation written by Arnold Friedmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the nature of the field of environment-behavior relations is interdis ciplinary, the collaboration of three persons of diverse professional backgrounds in writing this book is therefore not surprising. This col laboration started in 1972 with the offering of a graduate seminar "Envi ronment, Behavior, and Design Evaluation" at the University of Massa chusetts. Several research projects dealing with design evaluation which have been conducted at the University are also included as case studies in this book (Chapter III): the ELEMR study and the Visitor Center study. Two of the authors have worked as part of the instructional team in the seminar, and all of the authors have participated in varying degrees in the ELEMR Project. The authors' backgrounds in design, psychology, and landscape architecture suggest, by example, that professionals with diverse backgrounds but a common interest in environment-behavior problems can indeed learn to communicate and to collaborate. Since design evaluation is a new field and very little specific litera ture on the subject exists to date, we hope this book fills a current need.

Book Evaluating Treatment Environments

Download or read book Evaluating Treatment Environments written by Rudolf H. Moos and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the social ecological approach to the comparison and evaluation of treatment environments. Social ecology is concerned with the environment and how people adapt to it. The field deals with both the physical and the social environment. It combines basic research approaches with a dedication to resolving common human problems. The procedures developed in this classic volume have been used to monitor and improve treatment programs, to assess the adequacy of program implementation, and to understand the determinants and outcomes of specific aspects of treatment environments.

Book Classroom Environment RLE Edu O

Download or read book Classroom Environment RLE Edu O written by Barry J Fraser and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-06-14 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing impact of performance based judgments on schools and teachers in the classroom has its critics and supporters. Some oppose the trend and seek to deny the importance of quantitative measures. Others have sought to find ways of implementing educational measurement constructively and with understanding of the concerns. Classrooms are where the operational business of learning takes place and it is on the quality of life within the classroom that the broader process of learning, concerns for the wider community and others, is nurtured. The climate of the classroom has a large impact on the final outcome measure to which so much interest is directed. To help our understanding of the dynamics involved much work has been done in the development and refinement of quantitative studies to this area by studying essential information about how teachers and students perceive the environments in which the work. Research on classroom climates has reached a practical and theoretical maturity and this volume offers an account of the developments that have taken place and the potential for understanding the classroom as a vital component of the curriculum. This book will also be an essential resource tool for anyone engaged in classroom research.
