Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from University of Montana Studies in Psychology, Vol. 1 The University of Montana Studies in Psychology will be devoted to reports of researches undertaken in the Psychological Laboratory of the University by advanced students and instructors in the department. The results of such investigations as may be carried on will be gathered together every little while and published. The present initial volume of the Studies is devoted entirely to the Psychology of Skill. The first two sections of this study in learning, The Learning Curves, and The Analysis of the Learning Consciousness, were, in January 1906, submitted to the faculty of Clark University, Worcester, Mass., in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of doctor of philosophy and accepted on the recommendation of Professor E. C. Sanford. Publication of these parts of the study has, however, been delayed until the entire investigation could be completed. None of the results of the present study have been published hitherto. Copies of this and future numbers of the Studies may be had by addressing the editor, W. F. Book, or The Exchange Department of the University. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Studies From the Psychological Laboratory of the University of California, 1900: Reprinted From the Psychological Review The smallest lateral difference of place that is visible has until recently been given as about 50 - 60 angular measure. The method employed by Helmholtz and others1 in reaching this result was the well-known one of bringing two parallel lines together until they finally are just distinguished as two on the same general principle by which Weber determined the tactile space-threshold, by finding the distance between two compass - points that just cease to merge into one. But by a different method it is now evident that a lateral difference 2 of place of about 7 of arc can be directly perceived. Book Flow and the Foundations of Positive Psychology

Download or read book Flow and the Foundations of Positive Psychology written by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-08 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second volume in the collected works of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi covers about thirty years of Csikszentmihalyi‘s work on three main and interconnected areas of study: attention, flow and positive psychology. Describing attention as psychic energy and in the footsteps of William James, Csikszentmihalyi explores the allocation of attention, the when and where and the amount of attention humans pay to tasks and the role of attention in creating ‘experiences’, or ordered patterns of information. Taking into account information processing theories and attempts at quantifying people’s investment, the chapters deal with such topics as time budgets and the development and use of the Experience Sampling Method of collecting data on attention in everyday life. Following the chapters on attention and reflecting Csikszentmihalyi’s branching out into sociology and anthropology, there are chapters on the topic of adult play and leisure and connected to that, on flow, a concept formulated and developed by Csikszentmihalyi. Flow has become a popular concept in business and management around the world and research on the concept continues to flourish. Finally, this volume contains articles that stem from Csikszentmihalyi’s connection with Martin Seligman; they deal with concepts and theories, as well as with the development and short history, of the field and the “movement” of positive psychology.
