Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from University of Montana Studies in Psychology, Vol. 1 The University of Montana Studies in Psychology will be devoted to reports of researches undertaken in the Psychological Laboratory of the University by advanced students and instructors in the department. The results of such investigations as may be carried on will be gathered together every little while and published. The present initial volume of the Studies is devoted entirely to the Psychology of Skill. The first two sections of this study in learning, The Learning Curves, and The Analysis of the Learning Consciousness, were, in January 1906, submitted to the faculty of Clark University, Worcester, Mass., in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of doctor of philosophy and accepted on the recommendation of Professor E. C. Sanford. Publication of these parts of the study has, however, been delayed until the entire investigation could be completed. None of the results of the present study have been published hitherto. Copies of this and future numbers of the Studies may be had by addressing the editor, W. F. Book, or The Exchange Department of the University. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Cognitive Issues in Motor Expertise

Download or read book Cognitive Issues in Motor Expertise written by J. Starkes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1993-09-15 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intent of this book is to describe those perceptual and cognitive components which contribute to skilled motor performance in a wide variety of disciplines, including sports, microsurgery, video games, and speech. Also considered are issues in the measurement of motor skill, the development of motor skill across the life span, and the importance of individual differences in the development of motor skill. Many chapters contain studies employing the expertise approach used so successfully to study cognitive skills in psychology. Using this approach, expert performers are compared to novices on domain relevant laboratory tasks in order to determine whether specific cognitive or perceptual processes are related to performance differences. This volume will be of value to kinesiologists, sport psychologists, physical educators, and cognitive psychologists who are interested in a new perspective on the nature of motor skills. The majority of the chapters include reviews of the literature necessary to understand the case being made. Thus, the book may be understood by any reader with a basic course in psychology or motor behavior.
