Book Unique Focus

Download or read book Unique Focus written by Marina Stoyanova and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph focuses on an interesting typological property shared by four languages: the ungrammaticality of multiple wh-questions in Irish, Berber, Italian and Somali. It contains a broad discussion of data related to the grammar of wh-questions, a comparative analysis of wh-constructions in the four languages, and a theoretical account for the observed phenomenon. The analysis is based on the minimalist syntax theory as developed by Chomsky since 1995. It takes up the standard assumption that wh-phrases are typical representatives of elements bearing new information, in theoretical terms referred to as information focus. Most importantly, in the languages without multiple wh-questions the information focus is licensed in a unique syntactic position. The basic claim is that languages with unique focus are languages without multiple wh-questions. The analysis makes possible the classification of the languages without multiple wh-questions into the crosslinguistic typology of wh-constructions. Furthermore, this book is a contribution to the better understanding of information structure in natural languages, especially of focusing phenomena.

Book The Millennial Marriage

Download or read book The Millennial Marriage written by Brian J Willoughby and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-29 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book The Status of Everyday Life Routledge Revivals

Fiona Mackie reaches deeper even than the Habermasian approach to rationality by tracing an underlying structuring of perception not addressed by psychoanalysis. She moves beyond phenomenology by reactivating what she terms 'memory glows', which encapsulates a primordial mode of experiencing, and shows how the form of language and thinking changes to express that reversal which she sees as crucial in our contemporary crisis.

Book The Provoked Economy

Download or read book The Provoked Economy written by Fabian Muniesa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-16 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do things such as performance indicators, valuation formulas, consumer tests, stock prices or financial contracts represent an external reality? Or do they rather constitute, in a performative fashion, what they refer to? The Provoked Economy tackles this question from a pragmatist angle, considering economic reality as a ceaselessly provoked reality. It takes the reader through a series of diverse empirical sites – from public administrations to stock exchanges, from investment banks to marketing facilities and business schools – in order to explore what can be seen from such a demanding standpoint. It demonstrates that descriptions of economic objects do actually produce economic objects and that the simulacrum of an economic act is indeed a form of realization. It also shows that provoking economic reality means facing practical tests in which what ought to be economic or not is subject to elaboration and controversy. This book opens paths for empirical investigation in the social sciences, but also for the philosophical renewal of the critique of economic reality. It will be useful for students and scholars in social theory, sociology, anthropology, philosophy and economics.

Book Strategic Thinking

Download or read book Strategic Thinking written by Irene M. Duhaime and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-03-22 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many strategy books available in the marketplace for today’s student or business professional; most of them view strategy from the 10,000 foot level, while Strategic Thinking looks at this important business topic through a different lens. Written from the perspective of a manager, this book builds on theories of managerial and organizational cognition that have had a powerful influence on many business fields over the last two decades. As other books on business policy and strategy cover a broad range of topics, models, frameworks, and theories, the unique feature of this book is that it covers all this, but also focuses on how managers of business firms understand their business environments, assess and marshal their firms’ resources, and strive for advantage in the competitive marketplace. It examines the economic, structural, and managerial explanations for firm performance. Offering professors and business people who are intrigued by the ideas introduced in Peter Senge’s books ways to apply those ideas and principles in the classroom and in the companies in which they work, the book puts managers front and center.

Book The Ministry Vol 09 No 01

Download or read book The Ministry Vol 09 No 01 written by Various Authors and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue of The Ministry contains a complete record of the twelve messages given during the 2004 winter training on the Crystallization-study of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus, held December 20-25 in Anaheim, California. The crucial truth and burden embodied in these twelve messages may be summarized in four statements: (1) God's economy--His household administration--is to produce and constitute the Body of Christ by dispensing Himself into our being to make us the same as He is in life and nature but not in the Godhead. (2) The church of God is the house of the living God, the pillar and base of the truth, and the great mystery of godliness--God manifested in the flesh. (3) We must be inoculators, those who inoculate others against the decline of the church, by exercising our spirit and remaining in the healthy teaching of God's economy. (4) We must be inoculators, those who inoculate others against the decline of the church, by being a man of God with the breath of God. These messages are being published immediately following the training in order that they might benefit the saints participating in the many video trainings that are held throughout the earth. Because of the particular nature and length of this issue, the usual section of reports concerning the Lord's move throughout the earth has been omitted. We have, however, included a calendar, giving the dates and locations of the seven Living Stream Ministry conferences and trainings--the seven annual feasts--for 2005. One cannot measure the benefits derived during these feasts from the Lord's rich speaking in His ministry and the mutual blending and building up of the saints and the churches in the Lord's recovery from every continent.

Book The Practice of Qualitative Research

Download or read book The Practice of Qualitative Research written by Sharlene Nagy Hesse-Biber and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2011 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides undergraduate and beginning graduate students with a "hands on" introduction to qualitative research methods through the use of in-depth examples and out-of-class exercises. Rather than de-linking theory from methods and presenting students with a laundry-list of methods like so many texts do, The Practice of Qualitative Research provides readers with the link between theory and methods throughout the book. Starting with how to develop a good research question, the authors carefully show the nuts and bolts of data collection (including issues of sampling, validity, reliability and ethics), the multiplicity of considerations (and, how to sort through them) during research design, the how-to′s of each major qualitative approach, and conclude with data analysis, interpretation, and reporting. The Practice of Qualitative Research is designed for upper-level undergraduate and graduate level courses that introduce the student to Qualitative Research. The book provides coverage on the foundations of qualitative research, the methods used in doing the research and how you analyze the data and present it.
