Book A Unified Grand Tour of Theoretical Physics Third Edition

Download or read book A Unified Grand Tour of Theoretical Physics Third Edition written by Ian D. Lawrie and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-11-27 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Unified Grand Tour of Theoretical Physics invites its readers to a guided exploration of the theoretical ideas that shape our contemporary understanding of the physical world at the fundamental level. Its central themes, comprising space-time geometry and the general relativistic account of gravity, quantum field theory and the gauge theories of fundamental forces, and statistical mechanics and the theory of phase transitions, are developed in explicit mathematical detail, with an emphasis on conceptual understanding. Straightforward treatments of the standard models of particle physics and cosmology are supplemented with introductory accounts of more speculative theories, including supersymmetry and string theory. This third edition of the Tour includes a new chapter on quantum gravity, focusing on the approach known as Loop Quantum Gravity, while new sections provide extended discussions of topics that have become prominent in recent years, such as the Higgs boson, massive neutrinos, cosmological perturbations, dark energy and matter, and the thermodynamics of black holes. Designed for those in search of a solid grasp of the inner workings of these theories, but who prefer to avoid a full-scale assault on the research literature, the Tour assumes as its point of departure a familiarity with basic undergraduate-level physics, and emphasizes the interconnections between aspects of physics that are more often treated in isolation. The companion website at www.unifiedgrandtours.org provides further resources, including a comprehensive manual of solutions to the end-of-chapter exercises.

Book Special Functions of Mathematical Physics

Download or read book Special Functions of Mathematical Physics written by NIKIFOROV and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With students of Physics chiefly in mind, we have collected the material on special functions that is most important in mathematical physics and quan tum mechanics. We have not attempted to provide the most extensive collec tion possible of information about special functions, but have set ourselves the task of finding an exposition which, based on a unified approach, ensures the possibility of applying the theory in other natural sciences, since it pro vides a simple and effective method for the independent solution of problems that arise in practice in physics, engineering and mathematics. For the American edition we have been able to improve a number of proofs; in particular, we have given a new proof of the basic theorem (§3). This is the fundamental theorem of the book; it has now been extended to cover difference equations of hypergeometric type (§§12, 13). Several sections have been simplified and contain new material. We believe that this is the first time that the theory of classical or thogonal polynomials of a discrete variable on both uniform and nonuniform lattices has been given such a coherent presentation, together with its various applications in physics.

Book Trans Dimensional Unified Field Theory

Download or read book Trans Dimensional Unified Field Theory written by George James Ducas and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-06-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of a First Cause of all reality or God can be arrived at through science, metaphysics, and philosophy. This book establishes unification by defining parameters of equivalency through mathematics with the conclusion that all reality is consciousness. The keys to the universe and description of equivalency are defined. God can be known though works in creation when the true nature of being is understood, truth known, and the universe becomes an analogy of truth. All reality is consciousness established through patterns of hierarchy and symmetry proceeding from God. Action is known by equivalency and love is received in Creation.

Book Supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories

Download or read book Supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories written by Stuart Raby and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-29 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These course-tested lectures provide a technical introduction to Supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories (SUSY GUTs), as well as a personal view on the topic by one of the pioneers in the field. While the Standard Model of Particle Physics is incredibly successful in describing the known universe it is, nevertheless, an incomplete theory with many free parameters and open issues. An elegant solution to all of these quandaries is the proposed theory of SUSY GUTs. In a GUT, quarks and leptons are related in a simple way by the unifying symmetry and their electric charges are quantized, further the relative strength of the strong, weak and electromagnetic forces are predicted. SUSY GUTs additionally provide a framework for understanding particle masses and offer candidates for dark matter. Finally, with the extension of SUSY GUTs to string theory, a quantum-mechanically consistent unification of the four known forces (including gravity) is obtained. The book is organized in three sections: the first section contains a brief introduction to the Standard Model, supersymmetry and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Then SUSY GUTs in four space-time dimensions are introduced and reviewed. In addition, the cosmological issues concerning SUSY GUTs are discussed. Then the requirements for embedding a 4D SUSY GUT into higher-dimensional theories including gravity (i.e. String Theory) are investigated. Accordingly, section two of the course is devoted to discussing the so-called Orbifold GUTs and how in turn they solve some of the technical problems of 4D SUSY GUTs. Orbifold GUTs introduce a new set of open issues, which are then resolved in the third section in which it is shown how to embed Orbifold GUTs into the E(8) x E(8) Heterotic String in 10 space-time dimensions.

Book Clifford Algebra to Geometric Calculus

Download or read book Clifford Algebra to Geometric Calculus written by David Hestenes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1984 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matrix algebra has been called "the arithmetic of higher mathematics" [Be]. We think the basis for a better arithmetic has long been available, but its versatility has hardly been appreciated, and it has not yet been integrated into the mainstream of mathematics. We refer to the system commonly called 'Clifford Algebra', though we prefer the name 'Geometric Algebra' suggested by Clifford himself. Many distinct algebraic systems have been adapted or developed to express geometric relations and describe geometric structures. Especially notable are those algebras which have been used for this purpose in physics, in particular, the system of complex numbers, the quaternions, matrix algebra, vector, tensor and spinor algebras and the algebra of differential forms. Each of these geometric algebras has some significant advantage over the others in certain applications, so no one of them provides an adequate algebraic structure for all purposes of geometry and physics. At the same time, the algebras overlap considerably, so they provide several different mathematical representations for individual geometrical or physical ideas.

Book Can the Laws of Physics Be Unified

Download or read book Can the Laws of Physics Be Unified written by Paul Langacker and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise introduction to the cutting-edge science of particle physics The standard model of particle physics describes our current understanding of nature's fundamental particles and their interactions, yet gaps remain. For example, it does not include a quantum theory of gravity, nor does it explain the existence of dark matter. Once complete, however, the standard model could provide a unified description of the very building blocks of the universe. Researchers have been chasing this dream for decades, and many wonder whether such a dream can ever be made a reality. Can the Laws of Physics Be Unified? is a short introduction to this exciting frontier of physics. The book is accessibly written for students and researchers across the sciences, and for scientifically minded general readers. Paul Langacker begins with an overview of the key breakthroughs that have shaped the standard model, and then describes the fundamental particles, their interactions, and their role in cosmology. He goes on to explain field theory, internal symmetries, Yang-Mills theories, strong and electroweak interactions, the Higgs boson discovery, and neutrino physics. Langacker then looks at the questions that are still unanswered: What is the nature of the mysterious dark matter and dark energy that make up roughly 95 percent of the universe? Why is there more matter than antimatter? How can we reconcile quantum mechanics and general relativity? Can the Laws of Physics Be Unified? describes the promising theoretical ideas and new experiments that could provide answers and weighs our prospects for establishing a truly unified theory of the smallest constituents of nature and their interactions.

Download or read book UNIFIED FIELD THEORY Extreme Physics written by John Hildreth Atkins and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2006-09-01 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atkins set out to prove that Einstein was wrong. What he ended up doing was showing that Isaac Newton was wrong, too (Wrong because the force of attraction does not exist). Science has been in a boondoggle of misdirection. Atkins is going to turn Physics, as we know it, on its collective ear by defining gravity, showing that the Ether exists, redefining black holes, showing that the speed of light is nearly infinite, redefining how the solar system works, and much, much more. This is science fact...not science fiction WOW

Download or read book Einstein s Unification written by Jeroen van Dongen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-06-10 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why did Einstein tirelessly study unified field theory for more than thirty years? In this book, the author argues that Einstein believed he could find a unified theory of all of nature's forces by repeating the methods he thought he had used when he formulated general relativity. The book discusses Einstein's route to the general theory of relativity, focusing on the philosophical lessons that he learnt. It then addresses his quest for a unified theory for electromagnetism and gravity, discussing in detail his efforts with Kaluza-Klein and, surprisingly, the theory of spinors. From these perspectives, Einstein's critical stance towards the quantum theory comes to stand in a new light. This book will be of interest to physicists, historians and philosophers of science.
