Book Une nouvelle classe de m thodes multigrilles pour les probl mes mixtes

Download or read book Une nouvelle classe de m thodes multigrilles pour les probl mes mixtes written by Philippe Nigon and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Advances in Multi Grid Methods

Download or read book Advances in Multi Grid Methods written by Dietrich Braess and published by Vieweg+teubner Verlag. This book was released on 1985 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the week of December 8-13, 1984, a conference on Multi-Grid Methods was held at the Mathematisches Forschungs institut (Mathematical Research Institute) in Oberwolfach. The conference was suggested by the GAMM-Committee "Effiziente numerische Verfahren fUr partielle Differentialgleichungen". We were pleased to have 42 participants from 12 countries. These proceedings contain some contributions to the confe rence. The centre of interest in the more theoretical contri butions were exact convergence proofs for multi-grid method. Here, the theoretical foundation for the application of the method to the Stokes equations, the biharmonic equation in its formulation as a mixed finite element problem and other more involved problems were investigated. Moreover, improvements and new attacks for getting quantitative results on convergence rates were reported. Another series of contributions was concerned with the de velopment of highly efficient and fast algorithms for various partial differential equations. Also in this framework, the Stokes and the biharmonic equations were investigated. Other lectures treated problems from fluid mechanics (as Navier Stokes and Euler equations), the dam-problem and eigenvalue problems. The editors would like to thank Professor M. Barner, the director of Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach for making this conference possible. D. Braess, Bochum W. Hackbusch, Kiel U. Trottenberg, St. Augustin v CONTENTS O. Book Geometric Properties of Banach Spaces and Nonlinear Iterations

Download or read book Geometric Properties of Banach Spaces and Nonlinear Iterations written by Charles Chidume and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-27 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this monograph fall within the general area of nonlinear functional analysis and applications. We focus on an important topic within this area: geometric properties of Banach spaces and nonlinear iterations, a topic of intensive research e?orts, especially within the past 30 years, or so. In this theory, some geometric properties of Banach spaces play a crucial role. In the ?rst part of the monograph, we expose these geometric properties most of which are well known. As is well known, among all in?nite dim- sional Banach spaces, Hilbert spaces have the nicest geometric properties. The availability of the inner product, the fact that the proximity map or nearest point map of a real Hilbert space H onto a closed convex subset K of H is Lipschitzian with constant 1, and the following two identities 2 2 2 ||x+y|| =||x|| +2 x,y +||y|| , (?) 2 2 2 2 ||?x+(1??)y|| = ?||x|| +(1??)||y|| ??(1??)||x?y|| , (??) which hold for all x,y? H, are some of the geometric properties that char- terize inner product spaces and also make certain problems posed in Hilbert spaces more manageable than those in general Banach spaces. However, as has been rightly observed by M. Hazewinkel, “... many, and probably most, mathematical objects and models do not naturally live in Hilbert spaces”. Consequently, toextendsomeoftheHilbertspacetechniquestomoregeneral Banach spaces, analogues of the identities (?) and (??) have to be developed.

Book Abstract Differential Equations

Download or read book Abstract Differential Equations written by Samuel Zaidman and published by San Francisco : Pitman Advanced Pub. Program. This book was released on 1979 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with linear differential equations in Banach and Hilbert spaces whose coefficients are linear unbounded operators. Looking for examples or applications, the most natural ones are found in the theory of partial differential equations: if to one of the variables is given a privilegiate position and all the others are put together obtains 'at once' an ordinary 'differential' equation with respect to the variable. Adding boundary conditions in order to ensure definiteness of the solutions can often be translated in terms of considering solutions in some convenient linear--often normed--function spaces.

Book Water Flow and Solute Transport in Soils

Download or read book Water Flow and Solute Transport in Soils written by David Russo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A year has passed since Eshel Bresler, my good friend and colleague, and a member of the editorial board of the Advanced Series in Agricultural Sciences, died suddenly while on a visit to the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. We had worked together for almost 30 years at the Institute of Soils and Water, ARO, The Volcani Center at Bet Dagan. At the very beginning of our scientific careers we cooperated directly and as a result one of our first publications was coauthored (Soil Sci. 101:205-209, 1966). Thereafter, our specific research interests diver sified, but we continued to work together, with similar approaches to research, and to strive towards the development of Israel soil science and its integration into general worldwide scientific progress. I don't need to emphasize Eshel's contribution to the understan ding of the processes governing water flow and solute transport pro cesses in soils and unsaturated zones. The contributions to this Volume by such a body of outstanding scientists shows the apprecia tion of the international scientific community to his research achievements.

Book Soil Water Solute Process Characterization

Download or read book Soil Water Solute Process Characterization written by Javier Alvarez-Benedi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-09-23 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practitioner or researcher often faces complex alternatives when selecting a method to characterize properties governing a soil process. After years of research and development, environmental and agricultural professionals now have an array of methods for characterizing soil processes. Well-established methods, however, may not be suitable for the specific conditions of a study since many soil characteristics are intrinsically variable. An objective, integrated approach for soil characterization is needed to more effectively quantify parameters. Soil-Water-Solute Process Characterization goes beyond technical guidance and addresses the complicating factors such as spatial and temporal variability of soil processes, scale issues, soil structure, and the trade-offs between methods. It focuses on advanced methods for the monitoring and modeling of mass transfer processes in soil. Expert contributors present limitations to well-known methods and alternatives, discussing their practical applications for characterization efforts, evaluating strengths and weaknesses, and focusing on a reduced set of selected techniques. Three in-depth sections cover everything from multidisciplinary approaches for assessing subsurface non-point source pollution to techniques for characterizing water and energy balances at the soil-plant-atmosphere interface, field methods for monitoring soil water status, and computer models for characterizing the effect of chemicals in soil. This single-source reference is transforming method selection and our understanding of the principles, advantages, and limitations of the available monitoring techniques. Written in a simple and straightforward manner, Soil-Water-Solute Process Characterization is a detailed cookbook and a useful, practical reference for students, practitioners, and researchers.
