Pour opérer des comparaisons entre les formations de formateurs, une approche idéal-typique, la construction d'un référentiel articulant neuf grandes catégories d'analyse, ont été élaborées et, les formations de formateurs a et par la recherche-action de type stratégique n'existant pas, une expérimentation a été menée pendant deux ans. Trois formations, diplomates, universitaires : le dufc comme formation technique, le dufa comme formation méthodologique e et la maitrise de science de l'éducation comme formation a et par la recherche, ont été comparées a la formation expérimentale. De cette comparaison, il ressort que, si chaque formation contribue à satisfaire une partie des besoins de formation des formateurs, c'est la formation a et par la recherche-action de type stratégique qui s'avère la plus adéquate des lor s qu'elle dialectise recherche et action, appropriation de connaissances et transformations sociales et professionnelles, effectives, dans et par la formation. Les limites de l'expérimentation, dument constatées, conduisent à des réflexions finales sur les possibilités d'extension des formations de formateurs a et par la recherche-action de type stratégique

Organized by the REHSEIS group (Research on Epistemology and History of Exact Sciences and Scientific Institutions) of CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), the colloquium was held from 3 to 6 April 1990 in the UNESCO building in Paris. This colloquium was an idea of Professor Roshdi Rashed who initiated this field of studies in France some years ago, and proposed "Sciences and Empires" as one of the main research programmes for the The project to organize such a colloquium was a bit REHSEIS group. of a gamble. Its subject, reflected in the title "Sciences and Empires", is not a currently-accepted sub-discipline of the history of science; rather, it refers to a set of questions which found autonomy only recently. The terminology was strongly debated by the participants and, as is frequently suggested in this book, awaits fuller clarification.

The main idea of this new interview technique is to help a teacher, a supervisor or a researcher to guide the student, the practitioner or the subject to give a fine retrospective description of an action. As it is only the subject that has access to this mental or physical action, the goal is to help the subject with the verbalization, putting the implicit knowledge of this action in words. Yet, to achieve this verbalization, we need guidance, because we don't know how to give such a description ourselves. If we leave the interviewee without guidance, he risks remaining in the implicit, speaking in a general way, or in an incomplete or imprecise way, commenting instead of describing. The explicit and precise description we aim is the opposite of the implicit, meaning a fine, detailed and complete way of putting the action in words.
