This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Structural Integrity of Recycled Aggregate Concrete Produced with Fillers and Pozzolans presents a review on the use of by-products, fillers and pozzolanic materials in the development of concrete, with an emphasis on structural integrity. The volume is broken down into key sections, including a review of the types of materials that are used as latent hydraulic supplements, fillers and pozzolans for making recycled aggregate concrete, rheology and hydration phenomenon, the mechanical and microscale nature of concrete, and the impact of fillers and pozzolans on the workability of concrete with case studies. Durability and strength development are also discussed. The final section looks at issues such as performance effect, LCA, environmental impact, sustainability and cost benefit analysis. With detailed case studies throughout, this volume will provide useful information for all stakeholders involved in the built environment, including materials scientists, civil engineers, builders, architects and policymakers. - Identifies several potential by-products, fillers and pozzolans for the development of durable concrete - Acts as a guidebook for constructors and researchers working in the broad field of material science, engineering and in-situ application - Presents the durability properties of concrete made of by-products, fillers and pozzolans

Download or read book Fresh Concrete written by P. Bartos and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fresh concrete is generally featured in publications on concrete technology where the focus is often on fundamental rheology or diverse research methods, or the standards describe the tests but do not provide practical advice on interpretation of the results. This book aims to fill the gap between highly scientific and fundamental works and the many fragmented test specifications. It summarises the existing knowledge on the properties of fresh concrete in a form accessible to practicing engineers and concrete technologists. It includes a manual of practical tests which cover both the standard tests in major countries and new tests specifically applicable to site testing. The testing equipment required and the procedures are described in sufficient detail for the tests to be carried out, with references to selected national standards when compliance with specific conditions applicable in those countries is required. Particular attention is paid to properties of special fresh concrete mixes which are increasingly used in practical construction. The work will be of interest to engineers and others involved in the research, development, design and execution of concrete construction, including those working in EEC countries.

Download or read book European Convention on Human Rights written by Christoph Grabenwarter and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-02-12 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) entered into force on 3 September 1953 with binding effect on all Member States of the Council of Europe. It grants the people of Europe a number of fundamental rights and freedoms (right to life, prohibition of torture, prohibition of slavery and forced labour, right to liberty and security, right to a fair trial, no punishment without law, right to respect for private and family life, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and association, right to marry, right to an effective remedy, prohibition of discrimination) plus some more by additional protocols to the Convention (Protocols 1 (ETS No. 009), 4 (ETS No. 046), 6 (ETS No. 114), 7 (ETS No. 117), 12 (ETS No. 177) and 13 (ETS No. 187)). Any person who feels his or her rights under the ECHR have been violated by the authorities of one of the Member States can bring a case to the European Court of Human Rights, established under the Convention. The States are bound by the Court's decisions. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe make sure that the decisions are properly executed. Today the Court receives thousands of petitions annually, demonstrating the immense impact of the Convention and the Strasbourg Court. Professor Grabenwarter's Commentary deals with the Convention systematically, article-by-article, considering the development and scope of each article, together with the relevant case-law and literature.
Download or read book High Performance Eco Efficient Concrete written by Carlos Thomas and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-05-26 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to “High-Performance Eco-Efficient Concrete” and concrete fatigue behavior, more sustainable construction materials, capable of complying with quality standards and current innovation policies, aimed at saving natural resources and reducing global pollution. The development of self-compacting concretes with electric arc furnace slags is a further achievement. In addition, the technical and economic viability of using coarse recycled aggregates from crushed concrete in shotcrete, enhanced quality and reduced on-site construction time are the basic features of prefabricated bridge elements and systems, biomass bottom ash as aluminosilicate precursor and phosphogypsum were discussed. On the other hand, basalt fiber improving the mechanical properties and durability of reactive powder concrete, alkali-activated slag and high-volume fly ash and the potential of phosphogypsum as secondary raw material in construction industry, the effects of fly ash on the diffusion, bonding, and microproperties of chloride penetration in concrete were studied. Increasing amounts of sustainable concretes are being used as society becomes more aware of the environment. Finally, the circular economy as an economic model of production and consumption that involves reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling materials after their service life are presented in this book.

Download or read book Treatise on International Criminal Law written by Kai Ambos and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International criminal law and justice is a flourishing field which has led, in recent years, to new international criminal tribunals and new mechanisms for investigation and holding criminals to account. These developments have, in turn, led to an increasing volume and greater consolidation of case law, and even more scholarly attention. The second edition of this volume of Kai Ambos' seminal treatise has been revised and rewritten in parts to provide coverage of recent developments in the 'Special Part' of international criminal law: namely, the specific crimes and sentencing. Amongst other updates, there are significant extensions of the discussion on sexual and gender-based crimes; the introduction of environmental crimes into international criminal law; further elaboration on the nexus requirement in war crimes and asymmetrical conflicts (e.g., ISIS); and reference to the newly introduced war crimes of the ICC Statute and of the peculiarities of cyber-attacks and other emerging activities. The volume complements Volume I of the treatise on issues relevant to the foundations, general part of international criminal law, and general principles of international criminal justice. Taken together with the other new editions of the three-volume series, this second edition provides an exhaustive guide to every aspect of international criminal law, from fundamental principles to procedures and implementation. Kai Ambos' Treatise remains an indispensable reference work for academics and practitioners of international criminal law.
