Book Undone My Path Home

Download or read book Undone My Path Home written by Rose Northfield and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-02-05 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world around me is dark and bitter. I know that my walk is not straight. My veins are sore and broken. My hands tremble, and my head is fogged with misery and death. Ive lost my hope, my faith, and my way. Ive been blinded by the darkness; I cant find the light. Revelation of my iniquity causes tears to well up in my eyes, blurring my vision. But then, something starts to happen with the tears. They begin to purify my sight. I look up at the sky as the clouds start to dissipate, and the sun peaks through with its long warm rays, touching my inner core, building within it the strength of true existence. My veins begin to heal and strengthen; the blood once again flowing through them with courageous life. As I wake up, I am able to see the world around me, the life and the death. The death is like a lethal smog existing within our atmosphere patiently awaiting its next victim. Whereas, there is a fresh clear rushing waterfall that brings life to all who choose to dwell along it. That is where I found my home, and I will not turn away from it again. I cried out, I am slipping! but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. Psalm 94:18, NLT

How can scientists measure biases that people do not want to admit--or do not know they have? This engaging text delves into social cognition by exploring major questions in the field through an everyday lens. Students are introduced to core concepts and processes pertaining to how people come to know themselves and understand the behavior of others. Classic and contemporary findings and experimental methods are explained. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Lappin’s prize-winning, literary gothic tale, the tantalizing love story between American heroine Harriet Sacket and the enigmatic Count Federigo, self-proclaimed Etruscan spirit, is played out in 1922 against the backdrop of eerie Etruscan tombs, boar-infested woods, and elegant Tuscan villas. The Etruscan recounts the adventures of Harriet Sackett, trouser-wearing American photographer who travels to Italy to photograph Etruscan tombs for the Theosophical Society. Here she falls in love with the charismatic Federigo del Re, occultist , amateur archaeologist, and shape-shifter, but her increasing fascination with the man will leave her on the brink of collapse. The story is told from the viewpoint of Harriet’s English cousins, Stephen and Sarah, whose own dark secrets are revealed as they read the diary Harriet has kept of her obsession, trying to understand what has transpired. As the unraveling of Harriet’s mind is revealed, so too are the secrets of Harriet’s family- secrets which are no less disturbing than those revealed in her diary. The mystery at the heart of Harriet’s experience draws the reader on: who is Federigo del Re, the man she calls “her secret sun”? Noble lover, unscrupulous conman, Etruscan ghost, village shaman, or simply the product of Harriet’s delusion? Lappin keeps the suspense pulled taut till the very last page. Readers traveling to Italy this summer or just lounging at home dreaming of Tuscany can lose themselves in the Etruscan woods of Lappin’s lush landscapes.

Book excerpt: I can see where you are going. Up shit creek...with a paddle.' He was right. That is where I was going. It was the kind of thing that my analyst had always warned me against: 'You are at an inflexion point in a mood to do the irrational and the irreverent.' He forgot irreversible. Harsh Sinha - 'Fat F**ked and Forty' - is so moved by a painting bearing this name and a compelling likeness to him that he spends a large chunk of his life's savings on it. Announcing a year-long sabbatical from his advertising job in Mumbai he returns to Chennai to his wife and daughter determined to spend quality time with them. Sadly, his wife Gayathri no longer wants him; she is more interested in the artist next door. The artist, Newton Kumaraswamy is an inveterate womanizer and a famous thief - his every work an ode to that acknowledged master Francis Newton Souza. With no job to turn to and no family to lean on Harsh returns to Mumbai to let himself freefall further into the seductive world of contemporary Indian art and artists... Sharp, rough, and written with biting candour, Artist, Undone is a beguiling narrative of one man’s understanding of the creation, the commerce and the critiquing of contemporary art. It is also a montage of lives changed – mauled, redefined and occasionally redeemed – by it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ÿWhen Shelagh Bell was sorting through her mother's possessions after she had moved into a nursing home, she came across a pile of typescript, clumsily typed on one finger, many of the pages screwed up or out of order. She had found her mother?s memoirs, covering the years from her birth in 1900 to the death of the husband she worshipped, Shelagh?s father, in 1970. Shelagh devoted all her spare time to sorting them out and typing them up properly, and the result is this book; a beautifully-written, moving and often very funny story of a family who lived through two world wars and were constantly on the move, thanks to his career as a sea captain and her passion for house-hunting.
