Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Undeserved Sacrifice” Is based on the great passion of Jesus Christ to save humankind. A thought-provoking story told in a different way; a sacrifice that our Lord did not deserve, but He did it out of His loves for us, a sacrifice that neither you nor I deserved. Still, Jesus carried the weight of our sins and gave His life to save us and free us from eternal damnation. Actually, He did it for His infinite and eternal love for all of us (John 3:16). In “Undeserved Sacrifice,” you will find a story that must live in our hearts; be an inspiration by the Holy Spirit, thoroughly learned as the Word of God, in order to put it into practice day after day, and truly, allow Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior.

Book The Axiological Status of Theism and Other Worldviews

Download or read book The Axiological Status of Theism and Other Worldviews written by Kirk Lougheed and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-28 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the value impact that theist and other worldviews have on our world and its inhabitants. Providing an extended defense of anti-theism - the view that God’s existence would (or does) actually make the world worse in certain respects - Lougheed explores God’s impact on a broad range of concepts including privacy, understanding, dignity, and sacrifice. The second half of the book is dedicated to the expansion of the current debate beyond monotheism and naturalism, providing an analysis of the axiological status of other worldviews such as pantheism, ultimism, and Buddhism. A lucid exploration of contemporary and relevant questions about the value impact of God’s existence, this book is an invaluable resource for scholars interested in axiological questions in the philosophy of religion.

Book The Power of Unearned Suffering

Download or read book The Power of Unearned Suffering written by Mika Edmondson and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2016-12-09 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the roots and relevance of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s approach to black suffering. King’s conviction that “unearned suffering is redemptive” reflects a nearly 250-year-old tradition in the black church going back to the earliest Negro spirituals. From the bellies of slave ships, the foot of the lynching tree, and the back of segregated buses, black Christians have always maintained the hope that God could “make a way out of no way” and somehow bring good from the evils inflicted on them. As a product of the black church tradition, King inherited this widespread belief, developed it using Protestant liberal concepts, and deployed it throughout the Civil Rights Movement of the 50’s and 60’s as a central pillar of the whole non-violent movement. Recently, critics have maintained that King’s doctrine of redemptive suffering creates a martyr mentality which makes victims passive in the face of their suffering; this book argues against that critique. King’s concept offers real answers to important challenges, and it offers practical hope and guidance for how beleaguered black citizens can faithfully engage their suffering today.

Book This One s for the Working Mama

Download or read book This One s for the Working Mama written by Katie T. Alexander and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-08-09 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being a working mom in the climate of today’s world is the most difficult job description we will ever tackle. Society tells you that you should work harder, chase faster, achieve more, not worry about sacrifices made along the way and just be more. The world feeds you lies that if you do all of these things, you can have it all. If you’ve ever come up short, you are left with guilt and shame that you must have done something wrong. Further, perhaps in your community, the belief is that women shouldn’t work outside the home and you live with guilt over this decision to go against the normal. You and I need a space where we can be unapologetically grounded in our decision to be a working mama. We need encouragement to be uplifted in the trying days, and something to cling to as we curl up on our closet floor, tears flowing and releasing the stress of a million things on our shoulders. This book is the companion you can take with you on your journey to joy and freedom. Through its pages, you can lean into the grace and affirmation found in the Bible to write your own job description and start living with your soul on fire.

Book Colonial Virtue

  • ISBN : 1442643595
  • Pages : 289 pages

Download or read book Colonial Virtue written by Kasey Evans and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2012-01-14 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colonial Virtue is the first study to focus on the role played by the virtue of temperance in shaping ethical debates about early English colonialism. Kasey Evans tracks the migration of ideas surrounding temperance from classical and humanist writings through to sixteenth- and seventeenth-century applications, emphasizing the ways in which they have transcended the vocabularies of geography and time. Colonial Virtue offers fresh insights into how English Renaissance writers used temperance as a privileged lens through which to view New World morality and politically to justify colonial practices in Virginia and the West Indies. Evans uses literary texts, including The Fairie Queene and The Tempest, and sources such as sermons, dictionaries, and visual artifacts, to navigate alliances between traditional semantics and post-colonial political criticism. Beautifully written and deeply engaging, Colonial Virtue also models an expansive methodology for literary studies through its close readings and rhetorical analyses.

Book Grace in Auschwitz

  • Author : Jean-Pierre Fortin
  • Publisher : Fortress Press
  • Release : 2016-09-01
  • ISBN : 1506405886
  • Pages : 321 pages

Download or read book Grace in Auschwitz written by Jean-Pierre Fortin and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The postmodern human condition and relationship to God were forged in response to Auschwitz. Christian theology must now address the challenge posed by the Shoah. Grace in Auschwitz offers a constructive theology of grace that enables twenty-first-century Westerners to relate meaningfully to the Christian tradition in the wake of the Holocaust and unprecedented evil. Through narrative theological testimonial history, the first part articulates the human condition and relationship to God experienced by concentration camp inmates. The second part draws from the lives and works of Simone Weil, Dorothee Solle, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Alfred Delp, Hans Urs von Balthasar, and Sergei Bulgakov to propose and apply a coherent kenotic model enabling the transposition of the Christian doctrine of grace into categories strongly correlating with the experience of Auschwitz survivors. This model centers on the vulnerable Jesus Christ, a God who takes on the burden of the human condition and freely suffers alongside and for human beings. In and through the person of Jesus, God is made present and active in the midst of spiritual desolation and destitution, providing humanity and solace to others.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike so many murders of unarmed black and brown bodies by police officers, the viral video recording of George Floyd’s modern-day lynching set into motion a Kairos moment in time, the impact of which is still being felt over a year later. How/Why did God usher in this season of transformation now? Can God’s Word teach us how to reverse engineer communal violent scapegoating? What role can each of us play to eradicate police brutality? From Scapegoats to Lambs: How God’s Word Speaks to George Floyd’s Murder audaciously confronts these issues stemming from Charles L. Brown Jr.’s unflinching belief that God’s Word is uniquely qualified to preach to and through the legacy of the suffering of black and brown bodies, and that the Lord has a way of humbling the powerful and empowering the humiliated. In adopting what he calls “hood hermeneutics,” Brown joins the ranks of a growing number of unapologetic, black, Christian intellectuals unashamedly challenging the Church to mine the text with ferocious passion until it speaks compellingly to the struggle of those violently scapegoated.
