His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power". (Isaiah 40:28-29 NASB). Understanding Manna is a book written for everyone that is living in this uncertain world and focused on those, who worry about their eternal destiny. Manna was bread from heaven, which sustained physical life, during the time when the Israelites wandered for 40 years in the desert before entering the Promised Land. However, manna signifies so much more and this book is about recognizing and understanding the manna from heaven which "gives life to the world" (John 6:33 NASB). Understanding Manna is focused on providing you, the reader, with the knowledge and comprehension of the living bread, as "whoever eats this bread will live forever" (John 6:51) and the living water, as whoever drinks this water "will never thirst" (John 4:14). Its purpose is to inform and enlighten so that you can make the most important decision of your life, representing the most seminal moment in your lifetime, and one which will determine how you will spend the rest of your existence in eternity. If you do not understand what all of this means but you don't want any longer to "work for the food which perishes" (John 6:27 NASB) but instead for "food which endures to eternal life" (John 6:27 NASB) and if you are yet searching for answers to life's biggest questions, including the meaning of life, then Understanding Manna is definitely a must read for you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Hasidic Moses, Aryeh Wineman invites readers to join him on a journey through various eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Hasidic texts that interpret the life of Moses. Such texts read their own accent on spirituality and innerness along with their conceptions of community and spiritual leadership into the biblical account of Moses. Wineman reveals the ways in which historical Hasidic voices interpreted both the Exodus from Egypt and the scene of Revelation at Sinai as statements concerning what occurs constantly in our lives at all times. In addition, Wineman shows how Hasidic readers embraced the idea that Moses had to die in order that his soul might return to the world in the righteous and holy ones of every generation, and that the presence of Moses actually transcends time and is present in spiritual understanding as it unfolds at any moment in any period.

Book Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist

Download or read book Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist written by Brant Pitre and published by Image. This book was released on 2016-02-02 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revelatory exploration of the Jewish roots of the Last Supper that seeks to understand exactly what happened at Jesus’ final Passover. “Clear, profound and practical—you do not want to miss this book.”—Dr. Scott Hahn, author of The Lamb’s Supper and The Fourth Cup Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist shines fresh light on the Last Supper by looking at it through Jewish eyes. Using his in-depth knowledge of the Bible and ancient Judaism, Dr. Brant Pitre answers questions such as: What was the Passover like at the time of Jesus? What were the Jewish hopes for the Messiah? What was Jesus’ purpose in instituting the Eucharist during the feast of Passover? And, most important of all, what did Jesus mean when he said, “This is my body… This is my blood”? To answer these questions, Pitre explores ancient Jewish beliefs about the Passover of the Messiah, the miraculous Manna from heaven, and the mysterious Bread of the Presence. As he shows, these three keys—the Passover, the Manna, and the Bread of the Presence—have the power to unlock the original meaning of the Eucharistic words of Jesus. Along the way, Pitre also explains how Jesus united the Last Supper to his death on Good Friday and his Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Inspiring and informative, Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist is a groundbreaking work that is sure to illuminate one of the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith: the mystery of Jesus’ presence in “the breaking of the bread.”

Book The Book of Unknowing

    Book Details:
  • Author : David S. Herrstrom
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2012-03-29
  • ISBN : 1610971884
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book The Book of Unknowing written by David S. Herrstrom and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Unknowing meditates on John's confrontation with the incandescent Jesus, a figure of our desire for immortality. Guiding us through the Gospel's coming to grips with Jesus, the poet David Sten Herrstrom prefers sparking the imagination to arguing a thesis, as he explores John's own obsessions, such as image (light), symbol (water), sign (water to wine), shapeliness (symmetry), loves (Peter, Mary's), and above all, words (the Word, the body of Jesus). The result is a heady, literary engagement not afraid of wit and paradox. For anyone who loves literature or whose business is interpretation--ministers and teachers--this book blossoms with fresh revelations about the many voices of Jesus living in the House of the Interpreter and interacting with another interpreter (Nicodemus), as well as about John the interpreter who continually pauses to explain Jesus' motives, metaphors, and the meaning of his death. This meditation on John's Gospel takes the goat's leaping approach to the craggy language of John and Jesus rather than the methodical rock climber's. And along the way, to help him find footholds on the how and why of John's strategies, the author calls on other poets, from William Blake to Emily Dickinson and Miguel de Unamuno. The result: a poet's rather than a preacher's, theologian's, or scholar's reading of John's book, one which crosses the borders of disciplines. Throughout The Book of Unknowing, David Herrstrom is unsettled and exhilarated by the peculiar orneriness and fragrance of John's book, by its strange particulars that grab him by the throat and call lives into question. As William Blake has said, "Exuberance is Beauty," and this is an exuberant book.

Book Korean American Evangelicals New Models for Civic Life

Download or read book Korean American Evangelicals New Models for Civic Life written by Elaine Howard Ecklund and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006-11-09 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of religion among our nation's newest immigrants largely focus on how religion serves the immigrant community -- for example by creating job networks and helping retain ethnic identity in the second generation. In this book Ecklund widens the inquiry to look at how Korean Americans use religion to negotiate civic responsibility, as well as to create racial and ethnic identity. She compares the views and activities of second generation Korean Americans in two different congregational settings, one ethnically Korean and the other multi-ethnic. She also conducted more than 100 in-depth interviews with Korean American members of these and seven other churches around the country, and draws extensively on the secondary literature on immigrant religion, American civic life, and Korean American religion. Her book is a unique contribution to the literature on religion, race, and ethnicity and on immigration and civic life.
