Book Understanding Life and Its Challenges

Download or read book Understanding Life and Its Challenges written by Sondra Busby and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-11-07 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inside, you will find countless numbers of stories, encounters, and interactions to demonstrate the true essence of Understanding Life and Its Challenges. This book will help readers to understand that they are not alone in this world and that they are not the only people to struggle. Most importantly, it shows readers that their particular situation was not invented overnight or just for them. It proves that everybody in someway or another has experienced the exact same horror. For some, this story will enable readers to realize that no matter how horrible your problems are, someone, somewhere is going through worse. Understanding Life and Its Challenges will enlighten readers to believe in themselves. It teaches readers to focus on the things in life that are important. This book teaches or reminds readers to remember the person that they were before the fall. Most importantly, remember that we were created for a purpose. I tried to embrace and bring back the surety and esteem in every individual. My antics are not proven, but just like medication (because people are different), every person will have a different solution and a different reaction. I just want people to remember that they are worth the battle and to put every ounce of their being into being whom God has called them to be. I want my readers to learn how to grab life by its tail and take it for the ride of a lifetime!

Book Research at the Intersection of the Physical and Life Sciences

Download or read book Research at the Intersection of the Physical and Life Sciences written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-03-25 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, the natural sciences have been divided into two branches: the biological sciences and the physical sciences. Today, an increasing number of scientists are addressing problems lying at the intersection of the two. These problems are most often biological in nature, but examining them through the lens of the physical sciences can yield exciting results and opportunities. For example, one area producing effective cross-discipline research opportunities centers on the dynamics of systems. Equilibrium, multistability, and stochastic behavior-concepts familiar to physicists and chemists-are now being used to tackle issues associated with living systems such as adaptation, feedback, and emergent behavior. Research at the Intersection of the Physical and Life Sciences discusses how some of the most important scientific and societal challenges can be addressed, at least in part, by collaborative research that lies at the intersection of traditional disciplines, including biology, chemistry, and physics. This book describes how some of the mysteries of the biological world are being addressed using tools and techniques developed in the physical sciences, and identifies five areas of potentially transformative research. Work in these areas would have significant impact in both research and society at large by expanding our understanding of the physical world and by revealing new opportunities for advancing public health, technology, and stewardship of the environment. This book recommends several ways to accelerate such cross-discipline research. Many of these recommendations are directed toward those administering the faculties and resources of our great research institutions-and the stewards of our research funders, making this book an excellent resource for academic and research institutions, scientists, universities, and federal and private funding agencies.

Book Understanding Emerging Security Challenges

Download or read book Understanding Emerging Security Challenges written by Ashok Swain and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an overview of emerging security challenges in the global environment in the post-Cold War era. After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the subsequent shifting of international political environment, a new broader concept of security began to gain acceptance. This concept encompassed socio-economic-environmental challenges, such as resource scarcity and climate change, water-sharing issues, deforestation and forest protection measures, food and health security, and large population migration. The book examines the causes and consequences of these emerging security threats, and retains a critical focus on evolving approaches to address these issues. The author attempts to develop a framework for sustainable security in a rapidly changing global political landscape, which seeks to bring states and societies together in a way that addresses weaknesses of the evolving international system. Moreover, through a detailed analysis of the emerging security issues and their pathways, the book further argues that the evolving processes not only pose critical challenges but also provide remarkable opportunity for cooperation and collaboration among and within various stakeholders. This book will be of much interest to students of global security, war and conflict studies, peace studies and IR in general.

Book Understanding Systems A Grand Challenge For 21st Century Engineering

Download or read book Understanding Systems A Grand Challenge For 21st Century Engineering written by Jamshid Ghaboussi and published by #N/A. This book was released on 2017-07-19 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our book presents a unique and original viewpoint on natural and engineered systems. The authors' goal is to propose and explain core principles that govern the formation and function of simple and complex systems. Examples are drawn from a broad range of topics from common materials and manufactured structures to the behavior of cells, organisms and socio-economic organizations. We provide a technical discussion of key engineering principles without the use of mathematics so that we may describe for a general audience how the systems of daily life form, operate, and evolve. We use analogy and illustrations to show how the components self-organize and scale to form complex adaptive systems. In this way we hope to understand how those systems come to be, achieve stability, and suddenly transition to new equilibrium states, including the sudden onset of economic recessions, ecosystem collapse, the evolution of species, development of cancer, and other wide-ranging topics. The existential role of component variability in these processes is emphasized. This book targets engineering instructors and undergraduate students curious to explore the grand challenges facing society today so they might build productive and long-lasting careers in science and technology. The six essays can be used to frame classroom discussions on systems from a broad range of disciplines. The essays are designed to appeal to those with a basic science and engineering background as we illustrate many fundamental engineering concepts in our descriptions of system behavior. We also hope our book appeals to curious members of the general public who are interested in understanding foundational ideas.
