Book The Bald Eagle The Improbable Journey of America s Bird

Download or read book The Bald Eagle The Improbable Journey of America s Bird written by Jack E. Davis and published by Liveright Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best Books of the Month: Wall Street Journal, Kirkus Reviews From the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Gulf, a sweeping cultural and natural history of the bald eagle in America. The bald eagle is regal but fearless, a bird you’re not inclined to argue with. For centuries, Americans have celebrated it as “majestic” and “noble,” yet savaged the living bird behind their national symbol as a malicious predator of livestock and, falsely, a snatcher of babies. Taking us from before the nation’s founding through inconceivable resurgences of this enduring all-American species, Jack E. Davis contrasts the age when native peoples lived beside it peacefully with that when others, whether through hunting bounties or DDT pesticides, twice pushed Haliaeetus leucocephalus to the brink of extinction. Filled with spectacular stories of Founding Fathers, rapacious hunters, heroic bird rescuers, and the lives of bald eagles themselves—monogamous creatures, considered among the animal world’s finest parents—The Bald Eagle is a much-awaited cultural and natural history that demonstrates how this bird’s wondrous journey may provide inspiration today, as we grapple with environmental peril on a larger scale.

This book outlines the principles that individuals must pay attention to in order to make a wise choice in critical moments when they are faced with a difficult decision. It also exposes common pitfalls that could make situations worse if they are not carefully avoided, like making hasty decisions. This book is written based on biblical facts and references, as well as on true stories shared by Christians who have lived through hard times and have now shared the experiences that helped to ground them in the Lord. People go through different challenges in life. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Eternity of Eagles The Human History of the Most Fascinating Bird in the World A compulsively readable natural and social history, An Eternity of Eagles is a profusely illustrated celebration of all things eagle, by a naturalist who has kept eagles himself and ridden with the eagle tribes of Central Asia. "His vivid description of an eagle, if it could imagine itself, is of a 'carnivorous Buddhist.' Through Bodio’s insights we get a strange glimpse of these other minds that share the earth with us." --Annie Proulx, author of The Shipping News and Brokeback Mountain From one of the foremost author/naturalists in the country, Stephen J. Bodio, comes a compulsively readable natural and social history of the most beautiful bird in the world -- the eagle, with a lengthy and admiring introduction by Annie Proulx. The Eagle’s Shadow traces our love-hate relationship to these “living dinosaurs,” from Neolithic rock art and Native American religion through the practices of Kazakh falconers who use them to hunt wolves, and to contemporary art and popular culture. Proulx sums up best the heart of this book: “Those of us who are interested in bird behavior beyond the feeder or the identification guide book find meager pickings when it comes to information. I am fortunate that my house faces a cliff with a river at the base where I can watch raptors, water fowl, and a hundred other species. The nests of a pair of bald eagles and another upriver inhabited by golden eagles are in sight from the breakfast table. I have plenty of books on birds, but the information on why the big eagles do what they do is hard to dig out. Eagle behavior is usually lumped together with the general behavior of the Accipitrids, but a single book focused on the rich lore and sweep of eagledom did not seem to exist… . Bodio’s beautifully written and authoritative book, Eagles, is a primary source of information as well as an omnium gatherum from literature, film and mythology concerning these large, striking birds.” Stephen Bodio was born and educated in Boston and has lived in a rural New Mexico village for over thirty years. He has traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, and Asia and has written five books.

Book excerpt: This is a volume of practical, scriptural, and contemporary essays exploring the idea of strength in weakness in the context of Christian life and ministry. Biblical scholars, theologians, and Christian ministry practitioners have thought about the biblical paradigm of strength in weakness within their own areas of expertise and interest. Biblical scholars encounter the idea of strength in weakness in both Old and New Testament passages that suggest human weakness and divine strength. The people of Israel, a community reliant on grace, exemplify this theme. Mark's portrayal of Jesus Christ indicates that it is in weakness that Christ saves. Paul's paradigm for ministry suggests the same. Theological chapters engage this teaching of strength in weakness as it surfaces in Luther's life, in Calvin's view of prayer, in Barth's theology, and ultimately in the divine dealing with the world. Pastoral theology demonstrates this theme's foundational significance for a suffering church in its mission to the world as well as the themeis importance for preaching the leading of God's people today. Drawing together scholars from fields of biblical studies, systematic theology, and pastoral theology, On Eagles' Wings questions the over-emphasison power in today's church. The authors propose various ways that ministry and mission may be best engaged with a biblical humility and with reliance on God's grace.

Download or read book On Eagles Wings written by Jimmie Duane Ross and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These true-to-life experiences show how you can overcome and grow from the problems in your life. After all, if it had not been for Goliath, David would have remained a shepherd boy. The challenges that you face are part of life, not the end of it. I used my spiritual strength to conquer those problems and strengthen my faith. You will also see how we can have disappointing times in all segments of life. This includes professions, family, church members, banks, and, most of all, the corporate United States under the control of the unconstitutional Federal Reserve and its collection agency Internal Revenue Service. You will see how our challenges sometimes force us to study and research such entities and discover the fraud and corruption that exists in government, Internal Revenue Service, Federal Reserve, and our judicial system. These things are not taught in government-operated schools that indoctrinate our school kids from an early age. Our judicial system is just as corrupt and no longer rings the bell of justice that was experienced during those wonderful days of freedom and liberties that were enjoyed by all Americans. Today it is all about the money, control, connections, and punishment. You will see that all those areas of life mentioned above use punishment rather than compassion to resolve or correct a situation. There are at least 15 percent of innocent people in prisons for political reasons or just to put another notch in some judges' belt. At least 39 percent of people in prison are nonviolent and should not be placed in prison. A judge in Tennessee stated that his goal was to sentence ten thousand years by his retirement. That is a vendetta, not justice. My purpose in sharing the information within is to reveal to you the two governments that are prevalent in America today. There is the Constitutional United States of America with its fifty sovereign states controlling their own affairs. Then there is the corporate United States, which has become an unconstitutional central government controlling every aspect of the lives of Americans. You were not taught in school about the bankruptcy that the United States was forced to file to the private-owned Federal Reserve in 1933. This is explained herein. I explain how the Internal Revenue Service, Federal Reserve, and its national banking system are frauds as well as corrupt. They use any means necessary to control the citizens of America even by murder, which is also proven from personal experience. The primary purpose is to awaken "we the people" of this country to how they are in prisons without bars and do not realize it. My desire is to awaken the sleeping giant and motivate you to become active in taking back America before it is too late. I hope reveal some records straight and reveal the truth of several personal situations. It should illustrate how our spiritual strength can assist each of us in continual challenges in our lives. The spirit is of utmost importance in moving through this journey of life to arrive at our destiny. Society has lost respect for other people as we witness the atrocities that take place every day. Not only is our patriotism being tested, so is our faith. Our destiny is not found in this life but rather in the life to come.

Book excerpt: This book was written with much prayer and study of God’s word, and with love and honor for the word of God in Christ. The author observes that today’s churches lead away from sincere humility and repentance. In fact, they diminish the praise, honor, and glory owed the King of kings and Lord of lords in the church. He also reveals the dangers of believing in the pre-tribulational rapture tradition, which many churches teach. Find out what Scripture actually says as opposed to the traditions of men, who make God’s word of no effect, Mark 7:8, 13. Rather than fearing the seven-year tribulation, this book shows that Christ has a place of safety and provision for watchful, prepared believers at the start of the great tribulation, the last 1,260 days of this present age. Prepare yourself to endure to the end as Jesus taught us in Mattew 24:13, and to be like the five wise virgins of Matthew 25:1–13.
