Download or read book UNDER MY BUBBE S WINGS How Grandma s Spirit Got Me Through Nazi Captivity written by Iser Flaum and published by BookLocker.com, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a true-life memoir of defiant endurance through cruelty and traumatic loss, leading to ultimate survival. The author presents his father’s ordeals during five and a half years of Nazi captivity during the Holocaust. Included is a section of his mother’s similar experiences, although limited by her difficulty in discussing this topic. As the title infers, throughout he perceives the aura of his late grandma’s spirit protecting him with her angelic wings, as vowed in an early vision. Besides the brutal forced labor, extreme hunger, and massive life upheaval, there are numerous near-death escapes. He consistently feels luck being steered his way. With this fortune, perseverance, and daring he ends up as the lone survivor of his large family. A similar outcome applies to the author’s mother. Narrated from a first-person viewpoint it depicts forced migrations, Warsaw ghetto internment, and an ever worsening struggle to survive. Finally he must endure a series of Nazi camps for years until Russian liberation brings the war’s end. He becomes aware of the complete loss of family, being alone in the world in his early twenties. Finally free, DP camp life offers renewal, marriage, USA migration, and starting over.

Book When the Bubble Bursts

Download or read book When the Bubble Bursts written by Hilliard MacBeth and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2018-06-23 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A newly updated edition for the fast-changing real estate market in Canada! Over the last two decades Canadians have become convinced that real estate is the “safe haven” investment. This widely held belief and obsession with real estate led millions of Canadians to take on massive amounts of debt — tripling their collective financial burden — ensuring that Canada is one of the most indebted nations on the planet. Drawing on dozens of interviews and even more conversations with individual Canadians and couples, this second edition also tackles the economic conditions and regulatory rules that allowed such a dangerous situation to develop in Canada, formerly a nation of conservative and prudent citizens. Hilliard MacBeth argues that Canada is in the midst of an unprecedented real estate bubble and that there will soon be a crash in house prices, triggering a financial crisis. Individual Canadians and families can still take action to protect themselves from the fallout of the bubble bursting — if they act quickly.

Book Bursting the Bubble Rationality in a Seemingly Irrational Market

Download or read book Bursting the Bubble Rationality in a Seemingly Irrational Market written by David F. DeRosa and published by CFA Institute Research Foundation. This book was released on 2021-04-02 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The presence of speculative bubbles in capital markets (an important area of interest in financial history) is widely accepted across many circles. Talk of them is pervasive in the media and especially in the popular financial press. Bubbles are thought to be found primarily in the stock market, which is our main interest, although bubbles are said to occur in other markets. Bubbles go hand in hand with the notion that markets can be irrational. The academic community has a great interest in bubbles, and it has produced scholarly literature that is voluminous. For some economists, doing bubble research is like joining the vanguard of a Kuhnian paradigm shift in economic thinking. Not so fast. If bubbles did exist, they would pose a serious challenge to neoclassical finance. Bubbles would contradict the ideas that markets are rational or work in an informationally efficient manner. That’s what makes the topic of bubbles interesting. This book reviews and evaluates the academic literature as well as some popular investment books on the possible existence of speculative bubbles in the stock market. The main question is whether there is convincing empirical evidence that bubbles exist. A second question is whether the theoretical concepts that have been advanced for bubbles make them plausible. The reader will discover that I am skeptical that bubbles actually exist. But I do not think I or anyone else will ever be able to conclusively prove that there has never been a bubble. From studying the literature and from reading history, I find that many famous purported bubbles reflect inaccurate history or mistakes in analysis or simply cannot be shown to have existed. In other instances, bubbles might have existed. But in each of those cases, there are credible rational explanations. And good evidence exists for the idea that even if bubbles do exist, they are not of great importance to understanding the stock market.

Book Recent progress of enhanced bubble separation in alkaline water electrolyzer

Download or read book Recent progress of enhanced bubble separation in alkaline water electrolyzer written by Lin Yang and published by OAE Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2023-09-27 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alkaline water electrolysis has a large industrial application and development potential in hydrogen energy owing to its high maturity and low cost. However, its moderate energy efficiency, especially caused by bubble effects, inhibits its use for large-scale hydrogen production. To overcome this shortcoming, this review first analyzes the bubble effect and summarizes the external operation methods, such as external field intensification, flow operation, fluctuation operation, and surfactant addition to the electrolyte, to enhance bubble separation in the electrolyzer. Then, electrode and flow channel structure optimization, particularly superhydrophilic and superaerophobic electrodes, and flow channels with varying heights, square column arrangements, and inlet/outlet numbers are highlighted. Finally, future research directions in alkaline water electrolysis technology are suggested to advance the industrial application of large-scale alkaline water electrolysis.

Book The Dot com Bubble the Bush Deficits and the U S Current Account

Download or read book The Dot com Bubble the Bush Deficits and the U S Current Account written by Aart Kraay and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors challenge this view here and develop two alternative interpretations. Both are based on the notion that a bubble (the "dot-com" bubble) has been driving the stock market, but differ in their assumptions about the interactions between this bubble and fiscal policy (the "Bush" deficits). The "benevolent" view holds that a change in investor sentiment led to the collapse of the dot-com bubble and the Bush deficits were a welfare-improving policy response to this event. The "cynical" view holds instead that the Bush deficits led to the collapse of the dot-com bubble as the new administration tried to appropriate rents from foreign investors. The authors discuss the implications of each of these views for the future evolution of the U.S. economy and, in particular, its net foreign asset position."
