Inside the covers of this board book are two pages of extra-heavy board with press-out pieces that fit neatly together to create good old Uncle Sam, riding on a parade float and waving a flag for his admirers. His parade float really rolls, and with the addition of a string (not included), he becomes a patriotic pull-toy, perfect for children...and for anyone who wants to show patriotic pride. Book Uncle Sam s Family

Download or read book Uncle Sam s Family written by Robert V. Wells and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1985-01-01 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work introduces readers to the basics of demographic history, touching on issues of interest to anyone concerned with understanding how we have come to live as we do and what the future may bring. It also focuses directly on matters of birth, death, and migration. Uncle Sam's Family shows readers why historians, and others, have become interested in these topics, how they are studied, and what are some of the most intriguing recent findings. This is done in non-technical language, with a number of figures and tables designed and selected to make the material easy to understand. The book also examines how fundamental changes in family patterns have occurred in response to declining birth rates, increased longevity, and levels of immigration. Of special interest here is a chart (Figure 10), to help students understand how their own lives and the experiences of their families relate to some of the major trends in American history. The text ranges beyond traditional sources of information about population, showing what can be learned from novels, contemporary language, political struggles, and discussions about the nature of family life.

Book U S M C University of Science Music and Culture OR Uncle Sams Misguided Children

Download or read book U S M C University of Science Music and Culture OR Uncle Sams Misguided Children written by Chas Romeo and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-05-30 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a small record of how things were done in a particular time period in the Marine Corps training history. In order to win, you have to put the best team together for that period or era. In the '60s, the techniques and tactics worked for the events that were going on at that time. What didn't work were the procedures we had to follow that were given to us by the politicians who knew nothing about the work we had to do. I'm sure they've changed in the last sixty years and will continue to evolve until they are no longer needed. I mean no disrespect to my beloved corps then, now, or in the future. If I were to criticize their procedures then and now, I would say that back then they took the so-called bad boys and now they want you with no flaws so that they don't have to waste time taking the errant behavior out of the individual in order to put their wants and needs and desires into him. They don't want to do the heavy lifting anymore. We haven't won a war since the middle forties, so I wouldn't know, but I've been told by people who were there that, in the end, it is the individual marine with a rifle and fixed bayonet who closes with and kills his enemy. That takes a bad boy who is used to doing the heavy lifting and the dirty work, but we have special units in almost every branch of the service that are trained specifically to do the heavy lifting and the dirty work. Semper Fi.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just in time for July 4th, this is a patriotic look at the history of our country from its founding up to the present day. Through it all, the iconic Uncle Sam has rallied and united the American people as a symbol of national pride. In this book, Uncle Sam proudly looks on as General Andrew Jackson defeats the British redcoats in the War of 1812; Sam wears out seven pairs of boots walking westward with the pioneers; together with Lady Liberty, he welcomes the millions of immigrants who graced America's shores at the turn of the century; and Sam is there to give people hope from the Great Depression to the civil rights movement. Uncle Sam has helped people fulfill their dreams and create a better nation, standing with Americans through the decades. Kathryn Hewitt's unique artwork incorporates postage stamps, postcards, and antique images from each era--as well as the faces of the real people who changed history. The back matter lists short bios of each of these notable Americans.
