Book Eclipse of Evil

  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2005-12-01
  • ISBN : 1462833470
  • Pages : 491 pages

Download or read book Eclipse of Evil written by A.B.N. Dawn and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2005-12-01 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is backward Millstone village, squeezed in a valley of New Mexicos Sacramento Mountains, ostracized from neighbor towns? Why do villagers stare like mummies doomed to mindless terror? Why do they shun stunning Silver Lake gorged with trout? Are ghastly rumors products of superstition and ignorance, or is a diabolical recluse linked to sinister crimes? Such questions haunt three vacationing college freshmen and test their integrity. Events emotionally, mystically, and dangerously bind them to a mysterious loner whom they gallantly, perhaps foolishly, strive to vindicate. In their struggle they uncover the truth, hidden behind a fog of mystical power and hatred, and become entangled in a snare of sinister events and confusing leads. They must consider the emotional instability and supernatural powers of the old recluse. They must consider the motives of a beautiful Apache woman who seems to match the paranormal abilities and apparent, generous nature of the loner. They cannot ignore a shifty sheriff who bends the law and covers evil deeds. They cannot overlook the remnants of a dissolved cult in the old fishing lodge where they are staying, nor can they disregard old Stella who uses her status and magicians tricks to wield power over Millstone folk. In their struggle to redeem good, the three friends honor, faith, and courage are severely tried by subversive evil. The dichotomous clash escalates from sorrow, to betrayal, to tragedy, to ultimate triumph.

Download or read book The Parade written by Rock Le Compte and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-08-30 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in the 21st Century you either come to New Orleans for Mardi Gras or witness on the many news outlets the greatest free show on earth. Super Krewe floats that light up the night, Super Krewe members throwing thousands of dollars of beads, marching groups and bands from all over the country and world, parade route security, massive crowd control, and on and on. No one who is on the outside has any idea what it takes to produce such a large undertaking. It was not always like that- the production of Mardi Gras has evolved over many years with the last 30 or so sky rocketing with new super crew organizations and technology. This is my story as a ten year old, about a Parade in the late 50’s early 60’s that is what makes legends. It is about the Westbank Communities of the Mississippi River across from New Orleans. These communities wanted to start their own Mardis Gras Parade. Follow along reading this part fiction-narrative-memoire as I recount my yearlong recollection of how my best friend and Uncle, George, made a Parade called the “Poseidon” happen for an 8.5 mile stretch of connected communities; along with giving me lifelong memories.

Book The Time of My Life

Download or read book The Time of My Life written by Ev Nau and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-02-03 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While driving home from a long trip, Ev Nau was thinking about some events in his youth and suddenly realized that he knew very little about his own father's youth. As his trip continued, he further discovered that his own grandchildren really didn't know him either. So began his project of recording his memoirs for them. Following his retirement, Ev went through every bit of documentation he could find, from his mother's baby book to reports he had written at work, to recapture as much of his life as possible. Old pictures were the source of many of his memory kick-starts. Each tale seemed to rekindle a new story, and he spent most of his time just chuckling about how clearly it all came back to him. Born during World War II and surviving so many traumatic historical events, Ev shows people his life in perspective to many of these historical events and how they shaped him and his growth. From zany antics, and there are many, to tragic circumstances, way too many, his story graphically shows how this complicated man grew into a well-respected teacher, coach, and mentor for so many others. Whether chasing rabbits in a sports car on a golf course or marching endless miles in a drum and bugle corps or helping a close friend learn of his father's death, Ev has a compelling story to tell. And those tales only scratch the surface! Wait until you read about his Winter Carnival experience!

Book excerpt: James C. McCurrach was born in Brooklyn, New York and was the namesake of a self made business success story. He had a privileged upbringing that included a succession of private schools culminating in a B.A. from Brown University in Providence, R.I. He traveled a circuitous route as an adult - a journey that included tennis, a Vice Presidency at the former Bankers Trust Company in New York City as well as the principal in a New York restaurant. After many personal hurdles, he finally succeeded in his original goal of a teaching career. Additionally, his work assisting foreign students in the English language resulted in the publication of two English textbooks for English beginners in Japan and Korea. He is a former squash racquets champion with numerous top ten rankings in various age categories. He resides in San Francisco with his partner of 29 years. This Memoir is dedicated to P. Justin Jacobs for his loyalty, support and continuing encouragement. A troubled youth in search of direction finds himself groping to find his place despite numerous obstacles centering about his Father looking for a duplicate. Such are some of the problems facing James C. McCurrach Jr. as he passes through his early childhood years and the social upheavals encountered on the path to a new century. All of this is complicated by his growing uncertainty of his sexual proclivities at a time when homosexuality was ridiculed and considered a deviancy beyond the pale. At the same time, his Fathers' influence was a constant presence that would lead to a series of disasters, both socially and financially. Despite trying to throw off his Father's yoke, there remained a continuing need to please him and establish some sort of positive approval resulting in a series of tumultuous relationships and career moves. His Mom had always told the youngster that he would be a late bloomer and indeed that prediction would come to pass as in his later years the teaching profession would provide the purpose and rewards that had long eluded him.

Download or read book How to Survive Puberty at 25 written by Nina Bhadreshwar and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where do international adventures begin? Well, this one begins in the head of an imaginative mixed-race British girl who grows to be a frustrated journalist in recession-hit, racist Britain in the 1990s. Real Live Gangster is the true story of Nina Bhadreshwar, the British editor of the Real State magazine, later recruited by Death Row Records, the infamous LA-based record label that forever changed the music industry and not a few lives. An anorexic depressive, fed up of UK prejudice, Nina sets up her own magazine, the Real State, on her quest for "the real" in 1992. Finding a fellow seeker in Tupac Shakur during one of her graffiti missions to New York, they start a pen-friendship while her magazine is picked up by several international distributors. Decamping to Watts, South Los Angeles, just after the riots, her world is blown wide open by the injustice she witnesses. Her own delayed puberty kicks in, and with it, come the opportunities. Recruited by Westwood-based Death Row Records to help launch its own cultural magazine, Death Row Uncut, the mute British girl soon becomes one of the family and its voice and writer. But just as the dreams become reality, the cataclysm hits. This is the chronicle of the real—no more, no less—as told by a participator, not a theorist or a spectator.
