Book excerpt: I should just start rapping all my posts...That shit would be dope... Cause when I speak my mouth is foul I need to wash it with soap...Your life's a mess? I'm bout to wash it with hope... I know the feeling at the end of your rope... When shit is harder to cope! And do these people really give a fuck? Nope! You're better off trying to pray to the Pope... For disobeying your oath! I used to be small but you see the growth... I'm still trying to get this bread by the loaf... Or just feel better... Or both!

Book Madness Unchained

Download or read book Madness Unchained written by Lee Fratantuono and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book aims at providing a coherent guide to the entirety of Virgil's Aeneid, with analysis of every scene and, in some cases, every line of crucial passages. The book tries to provide a guide to the vast bibliography and scholarly apparatus that has grown around Virgil studies (especially over the past century), and to offer some critical study of what Virgil's purpose and intent may have been in crafting his response to Augustus' political ascendancy in Rome, Rome's history of near-constant civil strife, and the myths of Rome's origins and their conflicting Trojan, Greek, and native Italian origins.

Randall founded the Broadside Press, a company devoted to publishing, distributing and promoting the works of black poets and writers. In so doing, he became a major player in the civil rights movement. Hundreds of black writers were given an outlet for their work and for their calls for equality and black identity. Though Broadside was established on a minimal budget, Randall's unique skills made the press successful. He was trained as a librarian and had spent decades studying and writing poetry; most importantly, Randall was totally committed to the advancement of black literature. The famous and relatively unknown sought out Broadside, including such writers as Gwendolyn Brooks, Margaret Walker, Mae Jackson, Lance Jeffers, Etheridge Knight, Sonia Sanchez, Nikki Giovanni, Audre Lorde and Sterling D. Plumpp. His story is one of battling to promote black identity and equality through literature, and thus lifting the cultural lives of all Americans.

This book came together so seamlessly that we didn't even realize the amount of material that we had until we were more than halfway done with the book! We literally lost ourselves between each line, creating and working, and in perfect unison to the other. This work is unashamedly poignant, honest, passionate, and thought-provoking.

She’s supposed to kill his kind, not flirt with the possibility of daringly-hot sexy times—and he puts her job at the Sanctuary at risk. And now that she’s a suspected traitor, it’s just a matter of time before “my life is complicated” becomes “here’s hoping I survive the night.” Everything is on the line, and Lily’s running out of time to uncover the real traitor—and she’ll need Julian’s help. That is, if he’s really there to do good. Because being a Nephilim isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be...especially when Lily’s top priority is staying alive.

  • ISBN : 1477216073
  • Pages : 376 pages

Download or read book Unchained written by M. Francis Schmidt and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history people have faced unbelievable, seemingly impossible situations through war, genocide, poverty and political oppression. Yet, even in those dire situations, they have prevailed against all odds through bold action and their deep faith in Christ. "Unchained" takes the reader amidst fourteen centuries of such amazing triumphs...from the Battle of Tours in France through the Battle of Vienna in 1683 into the horrific Armenian genocide of the last century and then through the author's own rousing life. The stories will both astound and inspire you. However, "Unchained" is more than an inspirational history lesson; it contains the amazing fairy tale "The Knight and the Butterfly" that is a vibrant, colorful and moving story for children and adults alike. There is also the probing, somewhat comical story "The Question" that tears both a man and the Bible apart, piece by piece, flaw by flaw, only to have the Godly truth revealed in the end. If that isn't enough for the reader, "Unchained" includes dozens of the author's emotional poems of Poe-like dark and decadent design and then moves through his mystical and thought-provoking oeuvre. The reader is then taken on one last, incredible trip through time with Archangel Gabriel from the beginning of time straight through to the rapture. The epic poem frames the evolution of earth and the beginning and the end of civilization, the struggle between faith and science as well as the dreadful failings and the astounding victories of man. How does the world end? Read it and find out. Even Nostradamus would raise an eyebrow. However, "Unchained" is more than a collection of different tales and poetry. The astute reader will find common threads through all the stories, both in the characters and the action; moreover, that the real and the fictional are all inter-related. Discerning booklovers will recognize that, in fact, "Unchained" is one singular opus.

Book The Origins of African American Literature 1680 1865

Download or read book The Origins of African American Literature 1680 1865 written by Dickson D. Bruce and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2001-11-29 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the earliest texts of the colonial period to works contemporary with Emancipation, African American literature has been a dialogue across color lines, and a medium through which black writers have been able to exert considerable authority on both sides of that racial demarcation. Dickson D. Bruce argues that contrary to prevailing perceptions of African American voices as silenced and excluded from American history, those voices were loud and clear. Within the context of the wider culture, these writers offered powerful, widely read, and widely appreciated commentaries on American ideals and ambitions. The Origins of African American Literature provides strong evidence to demonstrate just how much writers engaged in a surprising number of dialogues with society as a whole. Along with an extensive discussion of major authors and texts, including Phillis Wheatley's poetry, Frederick Douglass's Narrative, Harriet Jacobs' Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, and Martin Delany's Blake, Bruce explores less-prominent works and writers as well, thereby grounding African American writing in its changing historical settings. The Origins of African American Literature is an invaluable revelation of the emergence and sources of the specifically African American literary tradition and the forces that helped shape it.
