Book Unattended Ground Sensors and Precision Engagement

Download or read book Unattended Ground Sensors and Precision Engagement written by Eric D. Haider and published by . This book was released on 1998-12-01 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unattended ground sensors (UGS) are devices that automatically gather sensor data on a remote target, interpret the data and communicate information back to a receiver without interaction with a human operator. The objective of this thesis is to determine how unattended ground sensor technologies might support precision engagement. Comparative case analysis of the use of sensors in Vietnam, the Sinai and Iraq is used to develop principles that UGS must meet to support precision engagement. This study finds that precision engagement requires long endurance UGS to be delivered covertly to discriminate between targets, interrogate them for emissions, while disseminating a fused picture of the target. This study details roles and missions which UGS can fill as well as their costs, benefits and unintended consequences.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a thorough knowledge of cognitive radio concepts, principles, standards, spectrum policy issues and product implementation details. In addition to 16 chapters covering all the basics of cognitive radio, this new edition has eight brand-new chapters covering cognitive radio in multiple antenna systems, policy language and policy engine, spectrum sensing, rendezvous techniques, spectrum consumption models, protocols for adaptation, cognitive networking, and information on the latest standards, making it an indispensable resource for the RF and wireless engineer. The new edition of this cutting edge reference, which gives a thorough knowledge of principles, implementation details, standards, policy issues in one volume, enables the RF and wireless engineer to master and apply today’s cognitive radio technologies. Bruce Fette, PhD, is Chief Scientist in the Communications Networking Division of General Dynamics C4 Systems in Scottsdale, AZ. He worked with the Software Defined Radio (SDR) Forum from its inception, currently performing the role of Technical Chair, and is a panelist for the IEEE Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing Industrial Technology Track. He currently heads the General Dynamics Signal Processing Center of Excellence in the Communication Networks Division. Dr. Fette has 36 patents and has been awarded the "Distinguished Innovator Award". Foreword and a chapter contribution by Joe Mitola, the creator of the field Discussion of cognitive aids to the user, spectrum owner, network operator Explanation of capabilities such as time – position awareness, speech and language awareness, multi-objective radio and network optimization, and supporting database infrastructure Detailed information on product implementation to aid product developers Thorough descriptions of each cognitive radio component technology provided by leaders of their respective fields, and the latest in high performance analysis – implementation techniques Explanations of the complex architecture and terminology of the current standards activities Discussions of market opportunities created by cognitive radio technology

Book Type 2 Fuzzy Graphical Models for Pattern Recognition

Download or read book Type 2 Fuzzy Graphical Models for Pattern Recognition written by Jia Zeng and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-17 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses how to combine type-2 fuzzy sets and graphical models to solve a range of real-world pattern recognition problems such as speech recognition, handwritten Chinese character recognition, topic modeling as well as human action recognition. It covers these recent developments while also providing a comprehensive introduction to the fields of type-2 fuzzy sets and graphical models. Though primarily intended for graduate students, researchers and practitioners in fuzzy logic and pattern recognition, the book can also serve as a valuable reference work for researchers without any previous knowledge of these fields. Dr. Jia Zeng is a Professor at the School of Computer Science and Technology, Soochow University, China. Dr. Zhi-Qiang Liu is a Professor at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, China.

Book Crime Prevention in the 21st Century

Download or read book Crime Prevention in the 21st Century written by Benoit LeClerc and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-27 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together a series of original contributions made by international experts dedicated to guiding efforts in preventing crime. The collection is divided into seven sections that cover cutting edge approaches to crime prevention: 1) the offenders’ perspective on crime prevention 2) crime script analysis 3) crime mapping and spatial analysis 4) social network analysis 5) agent-based modelling 6) crime-proofing legislations 7) technologies of crime prevention Each section includes one theoretical chapter to introduce the research approach followed by a series of empirical/applied contributions. The theoretical chapter aims to introduce and explain the approach of interest and discusses under which circumstances this strategy could best assist crime prevention. The objective of empirical/applied contributions is simply to showcase how these approaches can be apply. This collection can be seen as the end result of the convergence of novel ideas and analytical skills in the area of crime and crime prevention worldwide. It will be of interest to researchers in Criminology and Criminal Justice, as well as related fields like Sociology and Psychology, Security, Urban Planning, and Public Policy.
