Book excerpt: The voices that we rather prefer to avoid than be bothered about, and the reasons can be varied for each of us. Whether knowingly or unknowingly, we are all victims of gender equality and caste discrimination, even after being born equal. But important is, that we shall never stop talking and telling and writing about what it must come to light. 'Unabashed Voices' is an amalgamation of 31 wonderful writers from across the country. Who has poured out their best contemplative thoughts on the subject, through their poetry and short stories? India, as a country, has a quite diverse culture and yet we find common ground on certain things, which connect all of us together. This Anthology is a small but initial step toward a better world. With the hope to reach a greater amount of readers and inspire them as well. I am deeply grateful to all the co-authors for joining me and making this Anthology possible, we all together gave this book a shape.

Book The Cossacks A Caucasian Tale of 1852

Download or read book The Cossacks A Caucasian Tale of 1852 written by Leo Tolstoy and published by Livraria Press. This book was released on 2024-05-09 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new translation into modern American English directly from the original Russian manuscript. This edition contains an Afterword by the translator, a timeline of Tolstoy's life and works, and a glossary of philosophic terminology used throughout Tolstoy's literature and philosophy. The Cossacks A Caucasian Tale of 1852 (1852) is a novella by Leo Tolstoy that recounts the experiences of a young Russian aristocrat, Olenin, who joins the military and travels to the Caucasus region. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Caucasus Mountains, the novella delves into Olenin's fascination with the Cossack way of life and his romantic involvement with a local girl named Maryanka. Through Olenin's journey of self-discovery and his interactions with the Cossacks, Tolstoy explores the clash between the allure of a simpler, unspoiled existence and the complexities of modern society. The novella's literary merit lies in its vivid descriptions of the natural world, its introspective portrayal of Olenin's character development, and its thematic exploration of the search for authentic meaning and belonging.

Book A Soldier s Story

Download or read book A Soldier s Story written by Lawrence Mahoney and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-11-21 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Soldier’s Story is a story centered around the experiences of Lawrence Mahoney during his 18 month tour of duty in Viet Nam, as a commissioned officer in the US Army Transportation Corps. Mahoney was stationed in Da Nang, but moved pretty extensively around that country. This story is based on fact and actual experience; however, not all of what is presented are actual experiences of Mahoney, but were experiences of others. For this reason, the central character is Lawrence Campbell. Other characters in the story are real people and events are true, but none of the names are real. Fresh out of college and training through the Reserve Officer’s Training Corps, (ROTC), Campbell (aka Mahoney) believed that he was headed to Viet Nam to join a war to save the free world from the spread of Communism. Once in Viet Nam, the contradictions, the folly, the insanity of what was happening on the ground became starkly clear. The total disregard for human life was part of the military strategy, beginning with leadership of America. This story begins with the history of how we got there, together with all the warning signs of why we should never have gotten involved. I see this book as the opening story of perhaps 3 more books.

Book The Testimonies of Russian and American Postmodern Poetry

Download or read book The Testimonies of Russian and American Postmodern Poetry written by Albena Lutzkanova-Vassileva and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-06-30 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book challenges the belief in the purely linguistic nature of contemporary poetry and offers an interpretation of late twentieth-century Russian poetry as a testimony to the unforeseen annulment of communist reality and its overnight displacement by a completely unfathomable post-totalitarian order. Albena Lutzkanova-Vassileva argues that, because of the sudden invalidation of a reality that had been largely seen as unattained and everlasting, this shift remained secluded from the mind and totally resistant to cognition, thus causing a collectively traumatic psychological experience. The book proceeds by inquiring into a school of contemporary American poetry that has been likewise read as cut off from reality. Executing a comparative analysis, Vassileva advances a new understanding of this poetry as a testimony to the overwhelming and traumatic impact of contemporary media, which have assailed the mind with far more signals than it can register, digest and furnish with semantic weight.
