Book Unveiling the Messiah in the Dead Sea Scrolls

Download or read book Unveiling the Messiah in the Dead Sea Scrolls written by Margaret S. King and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-01-20 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author is convinced that the early Byzantine Church deliberately cut out sections from an historic text to conceal the truth about the crucifixion of a man they were promoting as their Messiah. She solves the mystery by reconstructing the deleted sections. King pieces together what happened in Jerusalem during the trial and attempted crucifixion of the real Messiah and shows that the key passages that were tampered with are actually the missing link that connects the Dead Sea Scrolls to the New Testament Gospels. Using those passags and the history of the period, she identifies the figures mentioned in the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Book excerpt: Documentary plays an essential role in the struggles over memories of Latin America's dictatorial pasts. Ever since Chile's military coup of 11 September 1973, whether inside the country or in exile, filmmakers have passionately and incessantly documented, created, and reenacted memories from this traumatic event and its aftermath. (Un)veiling Bodies analyses the rich landscape of Chilean documentary during the first two decades after the restoration of civilian rule in 1990. Ramírez-Soto proposes a trajectory that shifts from revealing the bodies of direct victims to unveiling the body of the film itself. This is a journey deeply intertwined with the country's own democratic transition. Informed by the affective turn in film studies, this book offers a novel approach to this largely unexplored field of Chilean cinema by arguing that these heterogeneous works shift from a 'cinema of the affected' to a 'cinema of affect'. By doing so, these documentaries contribute to Chilean society's own restoration of the senses. Elizabeth Ramírez-Soto is Assistant Professor in the School of Cinema at San Francisco State University. Her articles have appeared in Quarterly Review of Film and Video, Rethinking History, and Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies. She is also the coeditor of Nomadías: El cine de Marilú Mallet, Valeria Sarmiento y Angelina Vázquez (2016).

Book The Political Psychology of the Veil

Download or read book The Political Psychology of the Veil written by Sahar Ghumkhor and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-21 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Veiled women in the West appear menacing. Their visible invisibility is a cause of obsession. What is beneath the veil more than a woman? This book investigates the preoccupation with the veiled body through the imaging and imagining of Muslim women. It examines the relationship between the body and knowledge through the politics of freedom as grounded in a ‘natural’ body, in the index of flesh. The impulse to unveil is more than a desire to free the Muslim woman. What lies at the heart of the fantasy of saving the Muslim woman is the West’s desire to save itself. The preoccupation with the veiled woman is a defense that preserves neither the object of orientalism nor the difference embodied in women’s bodies, but inversely, insists on the corporeal boundaries of the West’s mode of knowing and truth-making. The book contends that the imagination of unveiling restores the West’s sense of its own power and enables it to intrude where it is ‘other’ – thus making it the centre and the agent by promising universal freedom, all the while stifling the question of what freedom is.

Download or read book Unveiling Scripture written by Melvyn Lawson and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-03-22 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a journey through the New Testament focussed on the ministry of Jesus and the responsibilities given to the church, particularly, in stewarding the truths of the word of God. It is looking afresh at these truths and reminding us of the responsibility the church has of ensuring each generation knows what has been committed to them by the Lord. We begin by looking at the impact of the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ while on earth, particularly, from the perspective of encounters that ordinary men and women experienced. Their reaction and responses lets us know what resonated with them. Whether it was Jesus teaching in their Synagogues or on a hillside we continually hear expressed how they were astonished at His doctrine. They would even ask the question ‘what new doctrine is this.’ It is gleaning from the Lord so that we follow in His footsteps that we might see a similar response in these days as the word of God goes forth. As the church grew and expanded throughout the Roman Empire a number of revelations were committed into the hands of the church. These revelations were defined as mysteries in the New Testament which have to be passed from generation to generation. The Apostle Paul provides details of eight of these mysteries, the Apostle John speaks of two mysteries, and the Lord Himself gives us one mystery. Part two of this book explores these mysteries.

Download or read book Unveiling Paul s Women written by Lucy Peppiatt and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether people realize it or not, the ideas in 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 have had a huge impact on the role of Christian women in the church through the centuries. These fifteen verses have shaped worship practices, church structures, church leadership, marriages, and even relationships between men and women in general. They have contributed to practices that have consistently placed women in a subordinate role to men, and have been used to justify the idea that a woman should not occupy a leadership or teaching position without being under the authority or "covering" of a man. It is strange, therefore, that academics and pastors alike continue to note how confusing and difficult it continues to be to make sense of these very verses. In this little book, Lucy Peppiatt not only highlights the problems associated with using this text to justify the subordination of women, but offers a clear and plausible re-reading of the text that paints the apostle Paul as a radical, visionary, church planter who championed women in all forms of leadership.

Book Un Veiling Dichotomies

Download or read book Un Veiling Dichotomies written by Giorgia Baldi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the implication of secular/liberal values in Western and human rights law and its impact on Muslim women. It offers an innovative reading of the tension between the religious and secular spheres. The author does not view the two as binary opposites. Rather, she believes they are twin categories that define specific forms of lives as well as a specific notion of womanhood. This divergence from the usual dichotomy opens the doors for a reinterpretation of secularism in contemporary Europe. This method also helps readers to view the study of religion vs. secularism in a new light. It allows for a better understanding of the challenges that contemporary Europe now faces regarding the accommodation of different religious identities. For instance, one entire section of the book concerns the practice of veiling and explores the contentious headscarf debate. It features case studies from Germany, France, and the UK. In addition, the analysis combines a wide range of disciplines and employs an integrated, comparative, and inter-disciplinary approach. The author successfully brings together arguments from different fields with a comparative legal and political analysis of Western and Islamic law and politics. This innovative study appeals to students and researchers while offering an important contribution to the debate over the role of religion in contemporary secular Europe and its impact on women’s rights and gender equality.

Book What Do You Call Him Unveiling 160 Names of God

This book was released on 2021-11-12 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our God is beyond a one-name moniker. Identifying an unidentifiable God seems to be an improbable challenge as to who can describe a God that goes beyond description. Limiting God to a few names does not negate his power, but it does limit the power we allow him to have in our lives. What Do You Call Him? Unveiling 160 Names of God will unleash this power from knowing about him to having a relationship with him. Unfortunately, we lack knowledge of God not because of an unwillingness to learn but because of the limits that we place on his name. Learning more about the names of God allows for a transition from knowing about him to making him known. This book aims to give biblical accounts behind the meaning of 160 names of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit to help close the gap on some of the mysteries of God and truly determine what we call him.
