Book excerpt: Dans cette thèse, nous proposons un système informatique pour la représentation des connaissances et le raisonnement sur les systèmes physiques. Deux sources de connaissances sont possibles selon le type de système : - 1) Pour les systèmes physiques à propos desquels la théorie est bien établie la connaissance existe sous la forme d'un système d’équations (modèle non-causal). Dans ce cas, nous proposons un algorithme pour la génération d'un modèle causal à partir du système d’équations. - 2) Pour les systèmes à propos desquels la théorie n'est pas bien établie nous essayons de représenter le modèle causal cognitif des experts. Dans ce cas, nous proposons un outil base sur la notion d'objet pour l'acquisition de ce modèle. Le modèle causal est utilisé ensuite pour faire une simulation. Avec cette simulation nous essayons de reproduire le raisonnement mené par des experts pour déduire le comportement du système physique. Pour apporter des réponses aux problèmes de résolution (lorsque seules des informations incomplètes sont disponibles) et aux problèmes d’étroitesse (lorsque nous sommes plus intéressés par des possibilités alternatives plausibles que par une seule projection), nous avons proposé des outils pour faire une simulation floue et qualitative. Nous avons en outre montré comment ces outils informatiques peuvent être utilisés pour la prédiction et l'explication du comportement d'un système physique

On the one hand, the human operator guarantees the reliability of the system and has been known to salvage numerous critical situations through an ability to reason in unplanned, imprecise and uncertain situations; on the other hand, the human operator can be unpredictable and create disturbances in the automated system. The first part of the book is dedicated to the methods of human-centered design, from three different points of view, the various chapters focusing on models developed by human engineers and functional models to explain human behavior in their environment, models of cognitive psychology and models in the domain of automobile driving. Part 2 develops the methods of evaluation of the human−machine systems, looking at the evaluation of the activity of the human operator at work and human error analysis methods. Finally, Part 3 is dedicated to human−machine cooperation, where the authors show that a cooperative agent comprises a know-how and a so-called know-how-to-cooperate and show the way to design and evaluate that cooperation in real industrial contexts.
