Book The Spiritual aftermath of Covid 19

Download or read book The Spiritual aftermath of Covid 19 written by La Civiltà Cattolica and published by ucanews. This book was released on 2022-02-28 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of 12 articles from the April 2021 edition of La Civiltà Cattolica, the highly respected and oldest Catholic journal published from Rome. In the April issue we have published Interpreting Reality a previously unknown essay by Jorge Mario Bergoglio from the late 1980s. Bergoglio explains the reasoning behind one of his four principles: reality is greater than the idea. On the afternoon of March 5, Pope Francis touched down in Baghdad for a four-day visit to Iraq, his first journey in over a year. Antonio Spadaro, our director, has penned a first-hand account of this trip. Cesare Giraudo’s essay, The Ministry of Women in the Liturgy: ‘Sound Tradition’ and ‘Legitimate Progress’, considers the recent, and important, motu proprio Spiritus Domini, it’s historical context and what it means for lay women and men who exercise the instituted ministries of lector and acolyte. Seil Oh discusses Pope Francis’ call for an “ecological conversion” in this time of crisis and division; essentially, we are called to rethink the way we live our faith. Along with the health and economic crisis is another that is only now being widely discussed, some call it post-traumatic stress but others know it as The Spiritual Aftermath of Covid-19 . Benedict XVI gave us a new expression to describe a Jewish or Muslim person: “other believer.” It indicates a person who does not believe exactly what we believe, but who is also a believer. Felix Körner, continues his series on fraternity explaining how Fratelli Tutti guides us as we speak to, interact with other believers.

Book Bridging the Gap Philosophy Mathematics and Physics

Download or read book Bridging the Gap Philosophy Mathematics and Physics written by G. Corsi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundational questions in logic, mathematics, computer science and physics are constant sources of epistemological debate in contemporary philosophy. To what extent is the transfinite part of mathematics completely trustworthy? Why is there a general `malaise' concerning the logical approach to the foundations of mathematics? What is the role of symmetry in physics? Is it possible to build a coherent worldview compatible with a macroobjectivistic position and based on the quantum picture of the world? What account can be given of opinion change in the light of new evidence? These are some of the questions discussed in this volume, which collects 14 lectures on the foundation of science given at the School of Philosophy of Science, Trieste, October 1989. The volume will be of particular interest to any student or scholar engaged in interdisciplinary research into the foundations of science in the context of contemporary debates.

Download or read book Refugee Tales written by Ali Smith and published by Comma Press. This book was released on 2016-05-31 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two unaccompanied children travel across the Mediterranean in an overcrowded boat that has been designed to only make it halfway across… A 63-year-old man is woken one morning by border officers ‘acting on a tip-off’ and, despite having paid taxes for 28 years, is suddenly cast into the detention system with no obvious means of escape… An orphan whose entire life has been spent in slavery – first on a Ghanaian farm, then as a victim of trafficking – writes to the Home Office for help, only to be rewarded with a jail sentence and indefinite detention… These are not fictions. Nor are they testimonies from some distant, brutal past, but the frighteningly common experiences of Europe’s new underclass – its refugees. While those with ‘citizenship’ enjoy basic human rights (like the right not to be detained without charge for more than 14 days), people seeking asylum can be suspended for years in Kafka-esque uncertainty. Here, poets and novelists retell the stories of individuals who have direct experience of Britain’s policy of indefinite immigration detention. Presenting their accounts anonymously, as modern day counterparts to the pilgrims’ stories in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, this book offers rare, intimate glimpses into otherwise untold suffering.

Book Quantum Theory and the Schism in Physics

Download or read book Quantum Theory and the Schism in Physics written by Karl Popper and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum Theory and the Schism in Physics is one of the three volumes of Karl Popper’s Postscript to the Logic of scientific Discovery. The Postscript is the culmination of Popper’s work in the philosophy of physics and a new famous attack on subjectivist approaches to philosophy of science. Quantum Theory and the Schism in Physics is the third volume of the Postscript. It may be read independently, but it also forms part of Popper’s interconnected argument in the Postscript. It presents Popper’s classic statement on quantum physics and offers important insights into his thinking on problems of method within science and physics as a whole.

Book Innovation and Its Enemies

Download or read book Innovation and Its Enemies written by Calestous Juma and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New technologies may be heralded as life-changing innovations or feared as risks to moral values, human health, and environmental safety. Anxieties surrounding technology are often heightened by perceptions that their benefits will accrue to small sections of society while the risks are more widely distributed. Innovation and Its Enemies identifies the tension between the need for innovation and the pressure to maintain continuity, social order and stability as one of today's biggest policy challenges. It looks at a number of historical examples, including coffee, electricity, margarine, farm mechanization, recorded music, transgenic crops and transgenic animals, to show how new technologies emerge, take root and create new institutional ecologies that favor their dominance in the marketplace.

Book Socially Symbolic Acts

Download or read book Socially Symbolic Acts written by Joseph Francese and published by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses issues of broad cultural consequence by examining the work of three of Italy's most prominent living novelists, Umberto Eco, Vincenzo Consolo, and Antonio Tabucchi. The introductory chapter continues a discussion of some of the topics already broached in the author's Narrating Postmodern Time and Space (1997). It uses an approach that is both historicist and psychoanalytic to critically address topics in cultural studies and Italian studies. The book deals with fictions of very recent publication, many of which have been published after the turn of the millennium, filling important gaps in the critical bibliography. Close readings relate texts to their historical and cultural contexts, critiquing their ideology while preserving their Utopian moments.

Ever since their father's untimely death five years before, Wyatt Smith and his inseparably close twin sister, Lucy, have scraped by alone on their family's isolated ranch in Box Elder County, Utah. That is until one morning when, just after spotting one of their steers lying dead in the field, Wyatt is hit in the arm by a hail of gunfire that takes four more cattle with it. The shooter: a fever-eyed, fearsome girl-child with a TEC-9 in her left hand and a worn shotgun in her right. They hold the girl captive, but she breaks loose overnight and heads south into the desert. With the dawning realization that the loss of cattle will mean the certain loss of the ranch, Wyatt feels he has no choice but to go after her and somehow find restitution for what's been lost. Wyatt's decision sets him on an epic twelve-day odyssey through a nightmarish underworld he only half understands; a world that pitches him not only against the primordial ways of men and the beautiful yet brutally unforgiving landscape, but also against himself. As he winds his way down from the mountains of Box Elder to the mesas of Monument Valley and back, Wyatt is forced to look for the first time at who he is and what he’s capable of, and how those hard truths set him irrevocably apart from the one person he’s ever really known and loved. Steeped in a mythic, wildly alive language of its own, and gripping from the first gunshot to the last, Rough Animals is a tour de force from a powerful new voice.
