Book Research and Development in Breast Ultrasound

Download or read book Research and Development in Breast Ultrasound written by E. Ueno and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-01-20 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasonic examination of the breast has been a valuable diagnostic tool for more than half a century since J.J. Wild,T. Wagai, and others ?rst used it in 1950. The ?rst Int- national Congress on the Ultrasonic Examination of the Breast (ICUEB) was convened in Philadelphia in 1979 by Goldberg (United States),Wells (United Kingdom),Wagai (Japan),Kobayashi (Japan),and Kossoff (Australia). Further congresses in the series have taken place every other year to discuss related theoretical and clinical discov- ies. These meetings led to the founding of the International Association for Breast Ultrasound (IABU) in 1991, and have contributed to improving ultrasonic exami- tion techniques and the associated medical bene?ts. The 13th ICUEB was held in Kyoto,Japan,in April 2003. International events at that time—the military operations in Iraq and the SARS outbreaks in several countries— threatened attendance; however, only one oral presentation and one poster presen- tion had to be canceled, and an impressive 98% of our schedule proceeded as planned. Over the three days of the congress, participants made signi?cant contributions through presentations and discussions, and we moved closer to a global mutual understanding.

Book Ultrasound Mammography

  • Author : Bernd-Joachim Hackelöer
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 146123476X
  • Pages : 173 pages

Download or read book Ultrasound Mammography written by Bernd-Joachim Hackelöer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most areas of medical ultrasound, textbooks that provide physicians with detailed, practical information are readily available. Unfortunately, for the field of ultrasound mammography, such texts are few in number, in comparison to the num ber available for other fields of medical ultrasound. This textbook by Drs. Hack eHler, Duda, and Lauth fills this gap by presenting a clear overview of the usefulness and limitations of ultrasound mammography. Information based on clinical experiences with various types of automated and real-time instrumentation is presented in a manner that allows physicians to make their own judgments regarding the diagnostic capabilities of ultrasound mammogra phy. It also provides specific information on techniques required to obtain useful diagnostic data. Examples of the many possible image variations of specific breast pathologies are presented. The advantages of recent real-time systems, when used with a stand-off, are clearly outlined. The authors do not belabor the philosophical dilemma of which sys tem, an automated or a real-time, is best suited for ultrasound mammography. They simply present the information they have gained in their use of both of these systems and indicate that, in the future, a combination of automated and real-time would be the most valuable for the physician.
