Download or read book Near Infrared Dyes for High Technology Applications written by S. Daehne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the results of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Syntheses, Optical Properties, and Applications of Near-Infrared (NIR) Dyes in High Technology Fields" held at Trest (Czech Republic) from September 24 to 27, 1997. It was attended by 52 scientists from 16 countries, among them 18 participants from 8 Eastern-Europe. The Workshop has been stimulated by the great progress that has been made in utilizing NIR dyes in high technology areas. This has been triggered by the availability of reliable. vel)' small, and inexpensive laser diodes emitting in the NIR region which raise the analytical detection limits by several orders of magnitude, allow time-resolved measurements for temporal discrimination between spectrally similar species, and make possible miniaturization as well as remote sensing through space and by fiber optical techniques. Furthermore, NIR dyes proved to be vel)' important in other high technology fields such as laser physics, optical recording techniques, nonlinear optics, biochemistty and medicine.
Download or read book Flow and Image Cytometry written by Alain Jaquemin-Sablon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image analysis and flow cytometry are complementary techniques which provide new insights into essential aspects of cell biology. This book presents an up-to-date overview of current ideas and methods in these domains. It consists of three parts. Part I, "Membrane Dynamics and Function", deals with adhesion molecules, membrane pump dynamics, membrane fusion and endocytosis, membrane potential, T-cell homing and cytoskeleton, etc. The second part focuses on problems of cell proliferation, chromosome analysis and sorting, apoptosis, imaging cytometry of fixed and living cells, image analysis for gene mapping from flow-sorted chromosomes, chromatin organization, and liposome-mediated delivery of DNA binding drugs. The third part covers data management systems, cell sorting techniques and microscopy.

Download or read book Automation Technologies for Genome Characterization written by Tony J. Beugelsdijk and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1997-09-30 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An accessible overview of the latest advancements in automation technologies for genetic mapping—a blueprint for the laboratory of the future Although much has been written about the genetic science at work in the Human Genome Project, to date there has been a serious gap in the literature about the technology that propels the project. Bringing together a group of leading researchers, this work presents a unified vision of the vital role played by technological innovation in tackling the tremendous challenges of genome characterization. Areas covered include informatics, robotics, optical and microfabrication techniques, and information management systems. Accessible to geneticists and nongeneticists alike, this clearly written resource provides: Illuminating, firsthand case studies of laboratory automation and control systems at highly successful facilities, including workable models for standardized hardware and software interfaces Examinations of promising emergent technologies in such areas as capillary gel electrophoresis, miniaturization, and mass spectrometry Practical discussions of computer simulation and information management for use in the creation of efficient genome factories Tutorials throughout to clarify biological issues underlying each technology As one of the first books to address the spectrum of technologies that will carry genetic research into the next millennium, Automation Technologies for Genome Characterization is an indispensable reference for genome researchers as well as biologists, engineers, and computer scientists working in this exciting field.
