Download or read book Component Based Software Engineering written by Grace A. Lewis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-09 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2009 Symposium on Component-Based Software Engineering (CBSE 2009) was the 12thin a series ofsuccessful eventsthat havegrowninto the main forum for industrial and academic experts to discuss component technology. Component-based software engineering (CBSE) has emerged as the under- ing technology for the assembly of ?exible software systems. In essence, CBSE is about composing computational building blocks to construct larger building blocks that ful?ll client needs. Most software engineers are involved in some form of component-based development. Nonetheless, the implications of CBSE adoption are wide-reaching and its challenges grow in tandem with its uptake, continuing to inspire our scienti?c speculation. Component-based development necessarily involves elements of software - chitecture, modular software design, software veri?cation, testing, con?guration and deployment. This year’s submissions represent a cross-section of CBSE - search that touches upon all these aspects. The theoretical foundations of c- ponent speci?cation, composition, analysis, and veri?cation continue to pose research challenges. What exactly constitutes an adequate semantics for c- munication and composition so that bigger things can be built from smaller things? How can formal approaches facilitate predictable assembly through b- ter analysis? We have grouped the proceedings into two sub-themes that deal with these issues: component models and communication and composition. At the same time, the world is changing.

Book Metasynthetic Computing and Engineering of Complex Systems

Download or read book Metasynthetic Computing and Engineering of Complex Systems written by Longbing Cao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-29 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a comprehensive overview and introduction to the concepts, methodologies, analysis, design and applications of metasynthetic computing and engineering. The author: • Presents an overview of complex systems, especially open complex giant systems such as the Internet, complex behavioural and social problems, and actionable knowledge discovery and delivery in the big data era. • Discusses ubiquitous intelligence in complex systems, including human intelligence, domain intelligence, social intelligence, network intelligence, data intelligence and machine intelligence, and their synergy through metasynthetic engineering. • Explains the concept and methodology of human-centred, human-machine-cooperated qualitative-to-quantitative metasynthesis for understanding and managing open complex giant systems, and its computing approach: metasynthetic computing. • Introduces techniques and tools for analysing and designing problem-solving systems for open complex problems and systems. Metasynthetic Computing and Engineering uses the systematology methodology in addressing system complexities in open complex giant systems, for which it may not only be effective to apply reductionism or holism. The book aims to encourage and inspire discussions, design, implementation and reflection of effective methodologies and tools for computing and engineering open complex systems and problems. Researchers, research students and practitioners in complex systems, artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, and even system science, cognitive science, behaviour science, and social science, will find this book invaluable.

Book The Future of Decentralized Electricity Distribution Networks

Download or read book The Future of Decentralized Electricity Distribution Networks written by Fereidoon Sioshansi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-05-23 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Future of Decentralized Electricity Distribution Networks assesses the evolution of the services delivered by the distribution network as demands placed on it proliferates from distributed, self-generating, power storing and power sharing ‘consumers’ – which Sioshansi terms ‘prosumagers’. The work outlines the processes by which passive and homogeneous electricity consumers become prosumers and prosumagers, the nature of their service needs, and dependence on the services delivered by the distribution network diverges. Contributors assess how consumers are discovering and exercising options to migrate away from total reliance on upstream generators to produce electricity and on the delivery network for its transmission. As they do so, the "utilities" – be they distributors or retailers – must rethink the traditional utility business model. How will they find sufficient revenues to cover their fixed and variable costs as volumetric consumption declines when some consumers become prosumers – or go a step further and become prosumagers? This work argues that new service, business models and new methods for collecting sufficient revenues to maintain the network are mandatory for the survival of modern utilities. Examines the future of services demanded by electricity customers as some diverge from their traditional total reliance on the network for delivery of all their service needs Reviews the emergence of new business models to meet the diverging needs of customers Explores the costs imposed by new types of customers on the delivery network and how to collect sufficient revenues from all to maintain it in ways that are efficient, equitable and fair

Book Non functional Requirements in Systems Analysis and Design

Download or read book Non functional Requirements in Systems Analysis and Design written by Kevin MacG. Adams and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will help readers gain a solid understanding of non-functional requirements inherent in systems design endeavors. It contains essential information for those who design, use and maintain complex engineered systems, including experienced designers, teachers of design, system stakeholders and practicing engineers. Coverage approaches non-functional requirements in a novel way by presenting a framework of four systems concerns into which the 27 major non-functional requirements fall: sustainment, design, adaptation and viability. Within this model, the text proceeds to define each non-functional requirement, to specify how each is treated as an element of the system design process and to develop an associated metric for their evaluation. Systems are designed to meet specific functional needs. Because non-functional requirements are not directly related to tasks that satisfy these proposed needs, designers and stakeholders often fail to recognize the importance of such attributes as availability, survivability, and robustness. This book gives readers the tools and knowledge they need to both recognize the importance of these non-functional requirements and incorporate them in the design process.
