Book Creation s Slavery and Liberation

Download or read book Creation s Slavery and Liberation written by Presian Renee Burroughs and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What did the apostle Paul mean when he portrayed the creation as subjected to frustration and enslaved to destruction? What forms of frustration and destruction might he have seen throughout the Roman Empire? And how would he describe creation's condition today? Creation's Slavery and Liberation addresses these questions by tracing the story of creation as it appears in Paul's own Scriptures (the Tanakh), Roman imperial propaganda, Paul's letter to Rome, and U.S. industrial agriculture. This story reveals God to be the Creator who makes right (justifies) and makes alive through Jesus Christ and the Spirit. Because God liberates, justifies, and vivifies the entire creation and since--according to Paul--creation's liberation is linked to humanity's glorification, Paul expects Christians to pursue justice and nourish life. Burroughs encapsulates key justice-oriented and life-supporting practices in seven eco-ethical principles. To make these principles come alive, she describes the ways in which Roman imperial and American industrial regimes have caused injustice and destruction and, instead, she proposes more regenerative approaches to growing, enjoying, and sharing our daily bread.

Download or read book Liberation as Affirmation written by Ge Ling Shang and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, author Ge Ling Shang provides a systematic comparison of original texts by Zhuangzi (fourth century BCE) and Nietzsche (1846–1900), under the rubric of religiosity, to challenge those who have customarily relegated both thinkers to relativism, nihilism, escapism, pessimism, or anti-religion. Shang closely examines Zhuangzi's and Nietzsche's respective critiques of metaphysics, morals, language, knowledge, and humanity in general and proposes a conception of the philosophical outlooks of Zhuangzi and Nietzsche as complementary. In the creative and vital spirit of Nietzsche, as in the tranquil and inward spirit of Zhuangzi, Shang argues that a surprisingly similar vision and aspiration toward human liberation and freedom exists—one in which spiritual transformation is possible by religiously affirming life in this world as sacred and divine.

Book Bhagavadgita 18 YOGA OF LIBERATION

Download or read book Bhagavadgita 18 YOGA OF LIBERATION written by BASANT PRABHAT JOSHI and published by Basant Prabhat Joshi. This book was released on 2023-04-28 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna explains to Arjun the path to achieving salvation or liberation through knowledge. He advises Arjun to forget all religions and take refuge in the one true self, which is the source of all life. Lord Krishna identifies himself as the soul of all beings and the only God. The original Sanskrit word used in Bhagavad Gita for the "one true self" is "Vraj." Lord Krishna emphasizes that the soul is one in which there is no difference between himself and the individual soul. This is why the word "Mamekam" is used, which means "one and only." Lord Krishna further explains that as long as one thinks of him and themselves as separate, one cannot achieve perfection. The self-realization that Lord Krishna speaks of is detailed in the second chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. The essence of Gita Shastra is to seek the shelter of the one true self, which is the divine self. Lord Krishna explains that God takes birth to establish Dharma, the true nature of man. He preaches Dharma from place to place in Bhagavad Gita and urges one to leave behind the vanity of their virtues, attachment to sensory knowledge, company of lack, and the value of their best deeds. Whatever one's natural temperament, one should go to the shelter of God, the divine self. Lord Krishna advises letting go of everything and becoming centred on the self. He assures that once one becomes centred in the self, karmic bonds will vanish on their own. Thus, there is no need to worry about this matter. In summary, Lord Krishna's teachings in this chapter emphasize the importance of seeking refuge in the one true self, which is the divine self. He urges one to let go of all worldly attachments and become centred on the self to achieve ultimate liberation or Moksha.

The concept of Dependent Origination also known by other transliterations as Conditioned Genesis, end several others, are repeated discussions in various sutra throughout the Buddha's 58 years of teaching. It is the fundamental concept in Tien-Tai's 3000 realms in a single thought moment, Nichiren's Ichinen Sanzen, the Satipatthana's formation of bodies, and countless discourses. Well explained with many source references, this essay will contribute a greater understanding in yet another voice, for those seeking a well reasoned argument for the practice and insight into liberation from the sufferings of samsara.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project is comprised of two substantial volumes of maxims entitled 'Maximum Truth' and 'Truthful Maxims', both of which, dating from 1993, extend the philosophy of Social Transcendentalism into new realms of metaphysical insight, including a more comprehensive subatomic theory that owes much to the structural quadruplicities of previous works, including 'Elemental Spectra', by the author. But it is in its departure from anything to do with the 'Clear Light of the Void', to which authors like Aldous Huxley succumbed, that this project stands out as a beacon of evolutionary enlightenment in relation to the 'Holy Spirit of Heaven'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a lecture given by the Dalai Lama on the wisdom chapter of A Guide to the Bodhisattva Way of Life, this book comments on Tibetan Buddhist philosophy in a clear and direct way. Shantideva’s A Guide to the Bodhisattva Way of Life is one of the most important texts in the Mahayana tradition of Buddhist practice. Its ninth chapter, the section on transcendent wisdom, is known among Buddhist scholars as a challenging exposition of Madhyamika philosophy and difficult to understand without a commentary. This extraordinarily clear discussion of the wisdom chapter is based on an oral teaching given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama before an audience of thousands of Tibetans and Westerners. This invaluable volume with its precise explanation of core issues of Tibetan Buddhism stands as a key work in Buddhist literature. This book was previously published under the title Transcendent Wisdom.
