Book Microbiological Research In Agroecosystem Management

Download or read book Microbiological Research In Agroecosystem Management written by Rajesh Kannan Velu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agroecosystem is an ideal dynamic functional system with a set of chemical and biological interaction taking place in plant surface either below or above the ground levels. These levels of interaction activities fundamentally with microorganism-plant-soil systems are extended upto the level of entire agricultural economy. Greatly simplified, the agroecosystems control the various range of energy flux, resources exchange, organic and inorganic nutrient budgets and population dynamics. The main aim of this edited volume is to provide a broad spectrum of agroecosystems structure, function and maintenance involved in microbial research. This book consists of 20 full length research articles focusing on the emerging problems in the field and the positive findings are identified on key areas of research such as biodiversity, ecosystem service, environmental cleaning in agroecology, etc. These articles are arranged progressively linking themselves thematically with photographs, figures and tables. Focused field articles are included which prove a valuable contribution to the field of agroecosystem management by microbial facilitations. The editor hopes that these articles would prompt the budding scholars to further their research which in turn would certainly help the agriculturists.

Download or read book Plant Metabolic Networks written by Jörg Schwender and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-12 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plants are the basis for human nutrition and of increasing interest for the chemical industry as a source of chemical feed stocks. Fuels derived from plant biomass will increasingly replace fossil fuels in the future. In order to increase crop productivity, design new plant products, and create new energy crops, there is need for methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis of metabolism which are able to guide the rational re-design of metabolic networks. In this book, recent advances in qualitative and quantitative analysis of metabolism are summarized to give an overview of the current state of knowledge. Principles of the analysis of network structure, flux analysis, and kinetic modeling are described. Analytical methods necessary to produce the data needed for metabolic flux analysis and for kinetic modeling are described. The analysis of larger metabolic networks is only possible by using computer assistance. Therefore each chapter of the book shall also describe software available for this purpose.

Book Image Analysis and Recognition

Download or read book Image Analysis and Recognition written by Aurélio Campilho and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-09-28 with total page 905 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ICIAR 2004, the International Conference on Image Analysis and Recognition, was the ?rst ICIAR conference, and was held in Porto, Portugal. ICIAR will be organized annually, and will alternate between Europe and North America. ICIAR 2005 will take place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The idea of o?ering these conferences came as a result of discussion between researchers in Portugal and Canada to encourage collaboration and exchange, mainly between these two countries, but also with the open participation of other countries, addressing recent advances in theory, methodology and applications. The response to the call for papers for ICIAR 2004 was very positive. From 316 full papers submitted, 210 were accepted (97 oral presentations, and 113 - sters). The review process was carried out by the Program Committee members and other reviewers; all are experts in various image analysis and recognition areas. Each paper was reviewed by at least two reviewing parties. The high q- lity of the papers in these proceedings is attributed ?rst to the authors, and second to the quality of the reviews provided by the experts. We would like to thank the authors for responding to our call, and we wholeheartedly thank the reviewers for their excellent work in such a short amount of time. We are espe- ally indebted to the Program Committee for their e?orts that allowed us to set up this publication. We were very pleased to be able to include in the conference, Prof. Murat KuntfromtheSwissFederalInstituteofTechnology, andProf. Mario ́ Figueiredo, oftheInstitutoSuperiorT ́ ecnico,inPortugal.

Book The Chloroplast

  • Author : Anna Stina Sandelius
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2008-12-11
  • ISBN : 3540686967
  • Pages : 307 pages

Download or read book The Chloroplast written by Anna Stina Sandelius and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-11 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chloroplasts are vital for life as we know it. At the leaf cell level, it is common knowledge that a chloroplast interacts with its surroundings – but this knowledge is often limited to the benefits of oxygenic photosynthesis and that chloroplasts provide reduced carbon, nitrogen and sulphur. This book presents the intricate interplay between chloroplasts and their immediate and more distant environments. The topic is explored in chapters covering aspects of evolution, the chloroplast/cytoplasm barrier, transport, division, motility and bidirectional signalling. Taken together, the contributed chapters provide an exciting insight into the complexity of how chloroplast functions are related to cellular and plant-level functions. The recent rapid advances in the presented research areas, largely made possible by the development of molecular techniques and genetic screens of an increasing number of plant model systems, make this interaction a topical issue.

Book Plant Cell and Tissue Culture A Tool in Biotechnology

Download or read book Plant Cell and Tissue Culture A Tool in Biotechnology written by Karl-Hermann Neumann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-28 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a general introduction as well as a selected survey of key advances in the fascinating field of plant cell and tissue culture as a tool in biotechnology. Additionally, some chapters are devoted to historical developments in this domain, metabolic aspects, nutrition, growth regulators, differentiation and the development of culture systems. The book will prove useful to both newcomers and specialists, and even “old hands” in tissue culture should find some challenging ideas to think about.

Book How Terrorists Learn

Download or read book How Terrorists Learn written by Carolin Görzig and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume helps us understand the transformations of terrorist organisations, and the conflicts they are involved in, by broadening the perspective on what is considered terrorist learning. Using a variety of methodological approaches and empirical data, the volume offers a look at the clandestine inner lives of groups from different continents and ideological backgrounds in order to explore from whom they learn and how, and what the outcomes are. Their internal and external interactions are examined within their socio-political contexts to illuminate how they adapt to challenges or fail to do so. Unpacking the question of ‘how do terrorists learn’ helps us to grasp not only changes of violent means of action but also of operational and strategic approaches and, ultimately, even transformations of the ends pursued. The chapters demonstrate that terrorist learning is not principally different from that of other human organisations. The contributors draw on conceptual frameworks of organizational learning, but also broaden the scope beyond the organizational framework to acknowledge the variety of forms of informal and decentralized learning characteristic of much contemporary terrorism. This book will be of much interest to students of terrorism studies, violent extremism, organisational studies and International Relations.
