Book Underfloor Air Distribution A Comprehensive Guide to Modern HVAC Systems

Download or read book Underfloor Air Distribution A Comprehensive Guide to Modern HVAC Systems written by Charles Nehme and published by Charles Nehme. This book was released on with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growing demand for energy-efficient, sustainable, and flexible building systems has reshaped how we design and operate modern workspaces. As a crucial component of contemporary HVAC systems, Underfloor Air Distribution (UFAD) technology offers an innovative approach to air delivery that can significantly enhance both occupant comfort and energy efficiency. This book aims to provide a comprehensive guide for engineers, architects, facility managers, and professionals involved in the design, installation, and operation of UFAD systems. Over the past few decades, the evolution of building technologies has prompted a shift away from traditional overhead air distribution systems. UFAD systems, with their ability to deliver conditioned air directly from the floor, are proving to be particularly effective in open-plan offices, data centers, and spaces requiring adaptive layouts. However, as with any system, the success of a UFAD system hinges on a thorough understanding of its design principles, proper installation, and ongoing maintenance. This book was born out of the need for a clear, structured resource that can guide professionals through the complexities of UFAD—from the fundamental science behind air distribution to the nuances of real-world system implementation. Each chapter builds upon the last, starting with an introduction to UFAD and gradually delving into more detailed aspects like airflow dynamics, commissioning, and sustainability. While UFAD offers numerous benefits, such as increased energy efficiency, improved thermal comfort, and design flexibility, these advantages are realized only when the system is designed and maintained with precision. Throughout this book, we will explore not only the technical aspects of UFAD systems but also practical insights and lessons learned from successful projects. I hope that this book serves as a valuable resource for professionals at all levels—whether you are considering UFAD for a new construction project or seeking ways to optimize an existing system. By understanding both the opportunities and challenges that UFAD presents, you can leverage this technology to create more comfortable, energy-efficient, and adaptable environments. Thank you for embarking on this journey into the world of UFAD. I am confident that, together, we can push the boundaries of what is possible in building design and air distribution.

Book Protecting Building Occupants and Operations from Biological and Chemical Airborne Threats

Download or read book Protecting Building Occupants and Operations from Biological and Chemical Airborne Threats written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-08-10 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Protecting buildings and their occupants from biological and chemical attacks to ensure continuous building operations is seen as an urgent need in the Department of Defense, given recent technological advances and the changing threats. Toward this end, the Department of Defense established the Immune Building Program to develop protective systems to deter biological and chemical attacks on military facilities and minimize the impacts of attacks should they occur. At the request of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the National Research Council convened a committee to provide guiding principles for protecting buildings from airborne biological or chemical threat agents and outline the variables and options to consider in designing building protection systems. This report addresses such components of building protection as building design and planning strategies; heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems; filtration; threat detection and identification technologies; and operational responses. It recommends that building protection systems be designed to accommodate changing building conditions, new technologies, and emerging threats. Although the report's focus is on protection of military facilities, the guiding principles it offers are applicable to protection of public facilities as well.

Book Attachment Ventilation Theory

Download or read book Attachment Ventilation Theory written by Angui Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-02 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book systematically summarizes the current research progress of attachment ventilation, covering vertical wall attachment, column attachment, and adaptive attachment ventilation. Attachment ventilation is a high-performance ventilation mode that was first proposed by the author, Prof. Angui Li 20 years ago. Now it has been widely used in office spaces, subway stations, high-speed railway stations, international airport terminals, and other large spaces. This book introduces attachment ventilation in detail to eliminate the cooling/heating load of the occupied zone and provide an expected environment for the air-conditioned zone. Attachment ventilation combines the advantages of traditional mixed ventilation and displacement ventilation. This book consists of six chapters, covering a series of airflow patterns, mechanisms, parameter correlations, and attachment ventilation design methods. It is helpful for HVAC engineers to design attachment ventilation effectively.

Book Architectural Research Addressing Societal Challenges

Download or read book Architectural Research Addressing Societal Challenges written by Manuel Jorge Rodrigues Couceiro da Costa and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-08-08 with total page 1665 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The escalating interdependecy of nations drives global geopolitics to shift ever more quickly. Societies seem unable to control any change that affects their cities, whether positively or negatively. Challenges are global, but solutions need to be implemented locally. How can architectural research contribute to the future of our changing society? How has it contributed in the past? The theme of the 10th EAAE/ARCC International Conference, “Architectural Research Addressing Societal Challenges”, was set to address these questions. This book, Architectural Research Addressing Societal Challenges, includes reviewed papers presented in June 2016, at the 10th EAAE/ARCC International Conference, which was held at the facilities of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon. The papers have been further divided into the following five sub-themes: a Changing Society; In Transit – Global Migration; Renaturalization of the City; Emerging Fields of Architectural Practice; and Research on Architectural Education. The EAAE/ARCC International Conference, held under the aegis of the EAAE and of the ARCC, is a conference organized every other year, in collaboration with one of the member schools/ universities of those associations, alternatively in North America or in Europe.
