Book excerpt: The third edition of this definitive and popular book, marking the 60th anniversary of the Speedmaster Now includes 17 new Speedmasters and an additional 120 new illustrations Updated models, serial range, and popularity index make this a must-buy for collectors "Moonwatch Only is certainly one of the best books ever written about a single watch model." - William Massena - Timezone.com "It is an indescribable reference work and a true must-have for every Speedmaster collector." - Forbes "This book sets a new standard. Not only for books on the Omega Speedmaster, but for watch books in general. I've never seen anything like it, and believe me when I tell you that I could fill an impressive sized wall with books on watches. Authors of other books or publishers should take a look at Moonwatch Only as well to see how it should be done." - Robert Jan Broer - FratelloWatches "The OMEGA Speedmaster Professional - the Moonwatch - has done things that no other timepiece has done and it's been worn in places that only a few human beings have been." - Captain Eugene Cernan, 'Last man on the moon' There are very few timepieces in the world that deserve a definitive and comprehensive book such as this one. The OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is one of them. Initially designed for automobile racing teams and engineers, the Omega Speedmaster embarked on a very different trajectory when NASA chose it to accompany astronauts heading for the Moon in 1965. Its involvement in the space adventure has propelled the Moonwatch to the top of the list of celebrated timepieces. After years of research and observation, the authors present a complete panorama of the Moonwatch in a systematic work that is both technical and attractive, making it the inescapable reference book for this legendary watch. This third edition marking the 60th anniversary of the Speedmaster has been enriched with numerous new features including a 16-page gallery of astronauts and their Speedmaster, QR codes to extend your exploration and a detailed story of a vintage Speedmaster.

Book Ordnance Maintenance

Download or read book Ordnance Maintenance written by War Department and published by Periscope Film LLC. This book was released on 2022-04-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every American soldier, airman, seaman and auxiliary personnel in WWII wore a wristwatch or carried a pocket watch. For military operations, reliability and accuracy in timekeeping has always been paramount, and in WWII the need for both became undeniable: the pace of modern war made highly synchronized operations the rule rather than the exception. In order to meet these requirements, a whole new generation of timepieces were issued. Innovative new models featured a host of improvements, from second-hacking capabilities to improved waterproofing, more durable and accurate movements, and purpose-driven complications. No wonder that many of today's modern brands market "classic" WWII watches as a key part of their product lines. The job of keeping America's WWII military timepieces in good condition fell to a group of specially-trained military watchmakers. This book, which was originally published in 1945 by the War Department, was the standard issues training manual for this cadre. It contains detailed instructions for the inspection, disassembly, assembly, maintenance, and repair of military issue pocket watches, wrist watches, stop watches, and message center clocks. Some of the specific models featured include the Bulova wristwatch model 10 AK, the Waltham wrist watch models 10609 and 10617, Elgin pocket and wrist watches, the Hamilton pocket watch model 992B, various Elgin stopwatches and the Message Center Clock M1. Originally "restricted", this manual was declassified long ago and is reprinted here in book form. Care has been taken to preserve the integrity of the original text and photographs.

Book American Menswear from the Civil War to the Twenty First Century Second Edition

This book was released on 2024-01-20 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a glance at American menswear over the past 150 years, change has been sometimes glacial in its evolution, sometimes regressive and nostalgic, and other times abrupt and revolutionary. In this study of American menswear from the Civil War to the twenty-first century, that evolution is chronicled and documented with more than 700 illustrations. In addition to the main categories of suits, sportswear, and outerwear, each era also includes a detailed examination of sleepwear, underwear, swimwear, hats, neckwear, footwear, and accessories. Further, Daniel Delis Hill examines not only American men’s dress and the structures of the menswear industry, but also the historical and socioeconomic drivers that affected men’s style—particularly the shifting conventions and iconoclasms of American ideas and ideals of masculinity.

Book Manufacturing Time

Download or read book Manufacturing Time written by Amy Glasmeier and published by Guilford Press. This book was released on 2000-08-10 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the large-scale manufacture of personal timepieces began, industry leadership has shifted among widely disparate locations, production systems, and cultures. This book recounts the story of the quest for supremacy in the manufacture of watches--from the cottage industries of Britain; to the preeminence of Switzerland and, later, the United States; to the high-tech plants of Japan and the sweatshops of Hong Kong. Glasmeier examines both the strategies adopted by specific firms and the interplay of such varying influences as technological change, cyclical economic downturns, war, and national trade policies. In so doing, she delineates a cohesive framework within which to address such broader questions as how sustained regional economic development takes place (or starts and then stops); how decisions made by corporations are structured by internal and external forces; and the ways industrial cultures with different strategic learning capabilities facilitate or thwart the pursuit of technological change.

Book Analogue and Digital Time Displays for Military Wristwatches

Download or read book Analogue and Digital Time Displays for Military Wristwatches written by J. E. Gordon and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The RAAF currently uses wristwatches with analogue (conventional clockface) displays. In response to a RAAF request, the arguments for and against using digital display wristwatches for military use were examined and an evaluation of two related US documents was carried out. One document, a US military specification for liquid crystal display digital wristwatches, includes most of the necessary safety and operational considerations. The other document, a questionnaire evaluation of military digital watches, appears somewhat unjustifiably biased in favour of digital wristwatches. It is recommended that for RAAF use, the US military specification should not be used in its present form as it leaves insufficient scope for technological improvements. Attention is drawn to alternative designs/displays for wristwatches, for example combination digital-analogue watches and electrochromic display watches. (Author).
