Book U S Army Workshop on Solid Propellant Ignition and Combustion Modeling

Download or read book U S Army Workshop on Solid Propellant Ignition and Combustion Modeling written by Martin S. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1997-07 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A workshop with the objective to view the current state of the art of energetic-material combustion models within the context of future requirements of gun interior-ballistics (IB) models was held at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL), Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, on 9 and 10 April 96. The workshop was motivated by the recognition that modeling and simulation will be an essential cost-saving and time-saving tool in the design, development, testing, and evaluation of future gun-propulsion systems, and that, under current funding constraints, research on the underlying fundamentals must be carefully directed toward the most critical technology barriers. To facilitate this process, a perspective was presented on the fundamental physics and chemistry currently utilized in IB codes (XKTC, etc.) and the extensions planned for advanced codes (the NGEN family). The state of the art in fundamental descriptions of energetic-material combustion was then summarized and discussed with the intent of giving focus to those issues that could impact the future development needs of the IB research community.

Book Workshop Report Fundamental Reactions in Solid Propellant Combustion

Download or read book Workshop Report Fundamental Reactions in Solid Propellant Combustion written by Robert A. Fifer and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summaries the results of a JANNAF workshop held 26-27 July 1977 at the Ballistic Research Laboratory. The purpose of the workshop was to assess our current understanding of the fundamental chemical and physical processes involved in the ignition and combustion of nitrate ester and nitramine propellants. A breif review is presented of the nitramine slope break and nitrate ester catalysis phenomena. The workshop discussions are summarized. Specific discussion questions are listed, together with some of the ideas and recommendations that resulted from the workshop. (Author).

Book Mechanics and Chemistry of Solid Propellants

Download or read book Mechanics and Chemistry of Solid Propellants written by A. C. Eringen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanics and Chemistry of Solid Propellants is a collection of papers presented at the Fourth Symposium on Naval Structural Mechanics, held in Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana on April 19-21, 1965 under the joint sponsorship of the Office of Naval Research and Purdue University. The contributors consider the development and utilization of solid propellants. This book is composed of 22 chapters that cover the many branches of studies that touch upon the science and technology of solid propellants. Some chapters present the mathematical and physical theories underlying the behavior of solid propellants, such as nonlinear and linear theories of viscoelasticity. Other chapters are devoted to advances in solid propellant binder chemistry; combustion and its effects on the structural integrity of the solid propellant grain; and design and other engineering problems. This book will be of value to scientists, engineers, and researchers who are interested in the diverse applications of solid propellants.

This book was released on 1989 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A JANNAF workshop on Advanced Diagnostics for Propellant Combustion was held at U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, New Jersey, June 13-14, 1989. The purpose of this workshop was to investigate the utility of advanced diagnostic techniques for use in gun ballistic simulators and laboratory fixtures as an aid to understand the ignition and combustion processes occurring in the gun interior ballistics environment. This paper summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of various diagnostic techniques for propellant combustion studies. Topics and specific work items for future studies in this area have also been identified and recommended. Keywords: Burning rate, Combustion, Gun Chambers, Ignition, Instrumentation.

Download or read book Report on JANNAF Workshop Influence of Gas Phase Chemical Kinetics on Low Pressure Ignition and Flamespreading in Solid Propellant written by George K. Keller and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A workshop on the subject influence of Gas-Phase Chemical Kinetics on the Low-Pressure Ignition and Flamespreading in Solid Propellants was held at Hampton, VA, on 23 and 24 October 1986 in conjunction with the 23rd JANNAF Combustion Meeting. The objectives of the workshop were to a) force a synergisitc interaction between those whose measurements have provided evidence for the participation of chemical kinetics in low-pressure solid propellant burning and those who are striving to simulate these events with interior ballistic models and b) address problems of anomalous ignition behavior in gun propelling charges. The workshop participants a) reviewed the evidence for the participation of chemical kinetics in the low-pressure burning of solid propellants, b) reviewed model simulations which include finite-rate kinetics, and c) determined which model simulations and further experimental characterizations would be most fruitful. This report documents the workshop. (AW).

Book Propellant Formulation Development for Future Army Weapons Systems By Means of Advanced Modeling and Flame Kinetics Research

Download or read book Propellant Formulation Development for Future Army Weapons Systems By Means of Advanced Modeling and Flame Kinetics Research written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We apply our experimental and modeling results of a number of burner-stabilized flames relevant to the combustion of solid propellants to calculate the burning rates of tri-amino-guanidinium-azotetrazolate (TAGzT) with and without a nitrate ester-based propellant using our CYCLOPS combustion model that we developed at US Army Research Laboratory. The model employs a detailed, chemical reaction mechanism containing 59 species and 368 reactions. Our calculations show that TAGzT enhances the burning rate of the base propellant over a range of pressures used for rockets and guns; a factor of three at 10 MPa.
