Book U S Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register Data Entry and Flight Surgeon Office Administration Guide

Download or read book U S Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register Data Entry and Flight Surgeon Office Administration Guide written by Kevin T. Mason and published by . This book was released on 1996-04-01 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide provides U.S. Army flight surgeons (FS) with guidelines for completing flying duty medical examinations (FDME) that are compatible with Aviation Epidemiology Data Register (AEDR) data entry. It details the review and disposition of aeromedically disqualified aviation training program applicants, aircrew members, and air traffic controllers, both civilian and military. The traditional core of Army aviation medicine is the delivery of clinical and operational preventive medicine services. This administration guide establishes a public health protocol as it pertains to the conduct of U.S. Army FDMEs. The FDME protocol adopts the current standard of preventive health care promoted by the U.S. Public Health Service, but is modified to meet the needs and challenges of the operational Army aviation environment. The protocol is the result of 6 years of literature review, AEDR research, and staffing of proposed aviation medicine public health policy through the U.S. Army Aeromedical Center, U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory, Army Surgeon General Aviation Medicine Consultant, and the Aeromedical Consultant Advisory Panel.

Book excerpt: The two fundamental objectives of this contract were Data entry of all Flying Duty Medical Examination (FDME) and analytical support and research data retrieval for clinical assessment purposes. Each FDME was entered into the backlog file and a print out of all prior medical history was generated. All medical history was given a lCD9CM code After all medical history has been coded and an AEDR file established other medical information is transcribed into the AEDR from the FDME. There are approximately 172 fields in the AEDR for administrative and medical testing results. Utilizing the 40-501, various APLs, and the Flight Surgeons guide, each FDME is then pre-reviewed, or screened for medical conditions which are out of standards and any medical conditions which may require special action by the Aeromedical Activity Screeners A recommendation is then written on the accompanying computer generated cover sheet The entire packet is then forwarded to the Aeromedical Activity flight surgeon for Review and Disposition. As an ongoing process, contract personnel sought ways to promote the quick turnaround of FDMEs without losing quality assurance. Also searched for was a quick and accurate way to track an FDME and eliminate repetitive time use for the flight surgeon in the field, while at the same time making available to him information concerning the air crewmember he would be examining. Each year aviators and aviation related personnel are required to take a Flight Duty Medical Examination. One requirement of the annual FDME was to complete a Standard Form 93 medical history form. Due to the tremendous number of FDMES processed annually through the Aeromedical Activity, it became necessary to develop a process by which a EDME could be located quickly.

Book Coding Manual for the U S Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register

Download or read book Coding Manual for the U S Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register (AEDR is an automated database which allows electronic storage, analysis, and retrieval of information of the Flying duty Medical Examination (FDME). The FDME consists of a completed Report of Medical History (standard form (SF) 93), Report of Physical Examination (SF 88), Report of Electrocardiogram SF 520) with the electrocardiogram tracing, and for certain classes of FDME, additional information on lifestyle factors and family history. Demographic data, patient history, physician history, physical findings, screening tests, and diagnoses information are included on these forms, each of which has a unique value in health care, administration, and research, and each of which must be handled differently in the AEDR. Demographic and screening test results are entered directly from the FDME to the AEDR. History, physical findings, and diagnoses are translated into a standardized alphanumeric code, a modification of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). Because of the unique characteristics of the military aviation environment, the ICD is inadequate to support all the clinical, administrative, and research functions of the AEDR. The ICD has been supplemented with additional diagnostic codes to provide extra specificity, codes for physical findings and electrocardiograms, and codes to automate the administrative process. These codes are present and discussed.

Book U S Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register Population Demographics and Aeromedical Disqualifications Among Female U S Army Flight Surgeons and Aeromedical Physician Assistants for Calender Years 1986 to 1995

Download or read book U S Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register Population Demographics and Aeromedical Disqualifications Among Female U S Army Flight Surgeons and Aeromedical Physician Assistants for Calender Years 1986 to 1995 written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This was a descriptive study to meet the short-notice requirements of the U.S. Army Aero-medical Center in support of the upcoming Women in Army Aviation Symposium in February 1996. Analysis of available data in the Aviation Epidemiology Data Register and school records at the U.S. Army School of Aviation Medicine provided a better understanding of the age distribution, numbers, retention, and aeromedical disposition outcomes of female Army flight surgeons and aeromedical physician assistants for the period 1986 to 1995. Seven data tables are provided to summarize the findings. Among a cohort of 141 applicants, 107 attended the Army Flight Surgeon Primary Course, Aeromedical physician assistant applicants were just as likely as flight surgeons to attend the U.S. Army Fight Surgeon Primary Course (Relative risk (Katz)=l.06, CI 0.95= 0.81,1.39) Many attending the course required a waiver for their medical disqualifications (42.1%) . Flight surgeons were more likely than aeromedical physician assistants to require a waiver, but not significantly (Relative risk (Katz) =2.75, CI 0.95=0.76,9.91).

Book Aviation Epidemiology Data Register Indexing the AEDR Document Laser Optic Archive

Download or read book Aviation Epidemiology Data Register Indexing the AEDR Document Laser Optic Archive written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Aviation Epidemiology Data Register (AEDR) is a family of databases storing health and physical parameters of Army aircrew. The components are administratively linked by social security number (SSN). A new component is an upgrade of the medical document microfiche archive to laser optic CD-ROM. The U.S. Army Aeromedical Activity requested assistance in creating an indexing scheme for the new system. They wanted to use a single SSN digit, the disks to fill at a uniform rate, and to keep the same aircrew member on the same disk even if multiple entries were made for the same patient. The SSN Of each case in the microfiche archive was extracted as a reference population. Analysis Of the frequency distribution of decimal values for selected SSN digits showed the last SSN digit would meet the stated requirements. Any of the first five SSN digits should not be used for indexing.

Book U S Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Registry Incidence and Outcomes of Aviator Flying Evaluation Boards

Download or read book U S Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Registry Incidence and Outcomes of Aviator Flying Evaluation Boards written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Aviation Epidemiology Data Registry (AEDR) is a family of databases storing history and physical information on Army aircrewmembers. The AEDR lacks some aviation career endpoints, one being the outcome of flying evaluation boards (FEBs) for nonmedical disqualifications. The outcomes of 170 new FEB actions from 1985 through 1992 in active duty and U.S. Army Reserve aviators were reviewed. The overall incidence was 1.13 per 1,000 aviator-years. Aviators aged 25 through 39 were twice as likely to undergo FEB actions. The likelihood of restoration to flying duties after FEB was significantly lower if the FEB was for habits, character, and motivation, than if the FEB was for poor flying proficiency or failure to follow flight rules. Many nonmedical disqualifications leading to FEB require medical evaluation to rule out underlying mental disorders.

Download or read book U S Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register Descriptive Analysis of Medical Disqualification Among Female Army Aviator Training Applicants written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Congress has directed studies of women in the military. The frequency and causes of medical disqualification for female applicants to Army aviator training are unknown. The U.S. Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register was queried to provide a descriptive analysis of a cohort of female applicants to Army aviator training for calendar years 1987 to 1990. There was a total of 774 female Class 1 and Class 1A applicants to U.S. Army aviator training during calendar years 1987 to 1990. Among the applicants, 41.2 percent were Class 1 (Warrant officer candidates) and 58.8 percent were Class IA (Commissioned officers). Commissioned officer applicants were significantly younger than Warrant officer applicants (p

Book Aviation Epidemiology Data Register Age Specific Medical and Nonmedical Attrition Rates Among Fort Rucker Civilian Aviators

Download or read book Aviation Epidemiology Data Register Age Specific Medical and Nonmedical Attrition Rates Among Fort Rucker Civilian Aviators written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An epidemiological analysis of the coronary angiography outcomes of Fort Rucker civilian aviators could not be completed without first conducting an analysis of attrition from aviation service due to medical and nonmedical causes. Longitudinal data on flying duty medical examinations and aeromedical boards conducted on Fort Rucker area civilian aviators was reviewed using the U.S. Army Aviation Epidemiology Data Register (AEDR). The AEDR records of 847 Fort Rucker civilian aviators were reviewed over nine calendar years from 1985 to 1993. By the end of 1992, 528 (62.3 percent) remained in aviation service, 251 (29.6 percent) were lost to nonmedical attrition, and 68 (8.1 percent) were lost to medical attrition. Of the 847, 196 (23.14 percent) had operational military affiliation (dual-status service as civilians and reserve component aviators), while 651 (76.86 percent) did not. Controlling for age, there was a higher risk for nonmedical and medical attrition among those without operational military affiliation X2 (Mantel-Haenszel), p
