Download or read book Five Kids and One Gun written by Bryan Stevenson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-07-25 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book I have taken true life events that have actually occurred in my lifetime. My inspiration was about a real life game of Russian roulette. The last soul survivor of five young teenage boys was the one who told me his story. They did not all die from the actual playing of the game, but it did cause the boys a deep depression that took their lives, one by one. However, they did not all die the way my book describes. In fact, one of the boys deaths was context I used from a real incident that took place when I was growing up. He was my friend. This boy was being bullied by six other teenage boys. After beating him up and ramming his head through a plate glass window of the local paramount theater, he decided to end it all and jump in front of a train. Bullying is a serious matter that can effect young minds in ways that are so horrible, you might not fi nd out what is really going on with them, until it is too late. May Tommy rest in peace. But I could not end this book here. I believe that when something bad happens, there are always good things to fall in its place. So I threw a few twists into my writings. There is a forest on the outskirts of my home town that was declared the historical cottonwoods, in which I use as the setting for this book. Wandering through the forest one day, I discovered a rather large naturally hollowed out cottonwood tree. This is where one lucky boys adventures begin. The boys built a real working elevator inside the tree that would lead to the bottom of a two story tree house they also constructed. But it does not end there. A magical book of secrets reveals itself. In this book it tells the story about an underground city as it really happens. Inside the hollow of the tree and approximately ten feet below the surface, an underground elevator is activated, once the owner of the book comes forward. This will lead to a hallway full of doors, each leading to mystical places beyond your wildest dreams. At the end of the first hallway is a rather large room where all hallways begin. A hidden ceiling door slides open with a thunderous ear deafening screech. It is the glass bottom of the Fraser river, in which you are able to view underwater creatures in their natural habitat. Down one of the hallways there is a door to an ancient library that tells the history of the underground. It is referred to as the spell room. There is also another door that leads to the four seasons. A big wooden door separates the hallways full of doors from an underground city called the Packs. Inside this city is a rather unique arena where there is a hockey game like you have never seen before.

Download or read book Harvesting Dreams written by Michael Furness and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After years of having a dream and having a storyline in the back of his head, Michael Furness decided to bring that dream and that story, with all those great characters from that dream, to life and into print. Michael, having a son with disabilities, would always read stories to his son and would take him to action-packed superhero movies. It was his son's favorite type of movie where the superhero would always defeat the bad guys. This association with superheroes and all the obstacles that the superheroes were up against in their daily life led Michael to decide to write a book for his son and making his son the hero with the help of the Holy Spirit, alongside his best friend, Abe. Tyler and Abe would go up against their adversaries, fighting for the good while relying upon the Lord with prayer to advise and guide them. Michael, thinking back to when his father would tell stories of how his family struggled early in their life during the Great Depression, gave Michael an era to set his story and to tell a powerful irresistible way to go up against odds while relying on God's power to make it in life. Tyler moved with his family to the Appalachian Mountains to a small country town known as Hoges Store, Virginia, where most of its townspeople worked for the mining company and lived in dismal lifestyles. Tyler, an almost twelve-year-old boy, used prayer and the belief that with God, all things are possible. This story tells how Tyler and Abe used the powers of God Almighty to take on, and possibly defeat, his foes.

Book A Super Upsetting Cookbook About Sandwiches

Download or read book A Super Upsetting Cookbook About Sandwiches written by Tyler Kord and published by Clarkson Potter. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Tyler and his approach to sandwiches are equal parts clever, hilarious, and deeply dirty (in all the right ways). I’m obsessed with the never-ending possibility of what a sandwich can be, and so I’m a supreme fan girl of everything that Tyler and his crazy mind inserts between these pages and two pieces of bread.” —Christina Tosi Known genius and broccoli savant Tyler Kord is chef-owner of the lauded No. 7 Sub shops in New York. He is also a fabulously neurotic man who directs his energy into ruminations on sandwich philosophy, love, self-loathing, pay phones, getting drunk in the shower, Tom Cruise, food ethics, and what it's like having the names of two different women tattooed on your body. But being a chef means that it's your job to make people happy, and so, to thank you for being there while he works out his issues, he offers you this collection of truly excellent recipes, like roast beef with crispy shallots and smoky French dressing, a mind-blowing mayonnaise that tastes exactly like pho, or so many ways to make vegetables into sandiwches that you may never eat salad again. A Super Upsetting Cookbook About Sandwiches will make you laugh, make you cry, and most of all, make you hungry.

Book One Person One Vote

Download or read book One Person One Vote written by Nick Seabrook and published by Pantheon. This book was released on 2022-06-14 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A redistricting crisis is now upon us. This surprising, compelling book tells the history of how we got to this moment—from the Founding Fathers to today’s high-tech manipulation of election districts—and shows us as well how to protect our most sacred, hard-fought principle of one person, one vote. Here is THE book on gerrymandering for citizens, politicians, journalists, activists, and voters. “Seabrook’s lucid account of the origins and evolution of gerrymandering—the deliberate and partisan doctoring of district borders for electoral advantage—makes a potentially dry, wonky subject accessible and engaging for a broad audience.” —The New York Times Nick Seabrook, an authority on constitutional and election law and an expert on gerrymandering (pronounced with a hard ‘G’!), begins before our nation’s founding, with the rigging of American elections for partisan and political gain and the election meddling of George Burrington, the colonial governor of North Carolina, in retaliation against his critics. The author writes of Patrick Henry, who used redistricting to settle an old score with political foe and fellow Founding Father James Madison (almost preventing the Bill of Rights from happening), and of Elbridge Gerry, the Massachusetts governor from whose name “gerrymander” derives. One Person, One Vote explores the rise of the most partisan gerrymanders in American history, put in place by the Republican Party after the 2010 census. We see how the battle has shifted to the states via REDMAP—the GOP’s successful strategy to control state governments and rig the results of state legislative and congressional elections over the past decade. Seabrook makes clear that a vast new redistricting is already here, and that to safeguard our republic, action is needed before it is too late.
