Download or read book Once Upon a Rhyme written by Antony L. Saragas and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2020-09-10 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not about poetry, even though the title and limericks sprinkled within might lead you to that notion. This book is not about sports, though many of the characters connect as coaches or teammates. This book is not even about a father and son, even though it deals with a man and his recently deceased father. This is a familiar tale of family, friendship, community, loss, and the renewal of faith. Even though the book takes place over the course of only one week, its message delves deeply into life and living. We all question the usefulness of our past, the course of our present, and—on our more challenging days—the point of our future. We wonder about the significance of our efforts. In other words, this book poses the question we often ignore through activity, defy with arrogance, or accept as unanswerable: “What’s the point?” In the vein of film classic It’s a Wonderful Life, author Antony Saragas reminds you that life is worth living and that sometimes your friends and family are your angels.

Part three is the story of the authors new life in the land of the free. It is an account of how the author managed to get his wife and children to America, which the author calls heaven on earth. In this part, Mr. Assifi speaks of the work he did in America and when he returned to Afghanistan to rebuild his destroyed homeland and provide assistance to its downtrodden people.

As an older, cannier politician he co-founded the original Republican party, setting the course of American political partisanship. Book Reclaiming the Women of Britain s First Mission to West Africa Three Lives Lost and Found

Download or read book Reclaiming the Women of Britain s First Mission to West Africa Three Lives Lost and Found written by Fiona Leach and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-11-26 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reclaiming the Women of Britain’s First Mission to Africa is the compelling story of three long-forgotten women, two white and one black, who lived, worked and died on the Church Missionary Society’s first overseas mission at the dawn of the nineteenth century. It was a time of momentous historical events: the birth of Britain’s missionary movement, the creation of its first African colony as a home for freed slaves, and abolition of the slave trade. Casting its long shadow over much of the women’s story was the protracted war with Napoleon. Taking as its starting point a cache of fifty letters from the three women, the book counters the prevailing narrative that early missionary endeavour was a uniquely European and male affair, and reveals the presence of a surprising number of women, among them several with very forceful personalities. Those who are interested in women’s life history, black history, the history of the slave trade and British evangelism will find this book immensely enjoyable.

She’s planted a slew of clues—in the pages of her journal, on the hard drive of her computer, tucked away in public places, under flowerpots, and behind statues. Heartbroken, confused, and accompanied by an imaginary cat, Ben embarks upon a scavenger hunt leading to charming and unexpected spaces, from the hidden alleys of Paris to the cobblestone streets of New York City. Book The Three Lives of the Kaiser

Download or read book The Three Lives of the Kaiser written by Uli Hesse and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-05-11 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franz Beckenbauer – known as ‘the Kaiser’ – was Germany's greatest-ever footballer and one of the game's biggest icons of all time, a World Cup winner as player and manager. But what is often described as a blessed life was in fact a rollercoaster ride with stunning highs and bitter lows. He rose to fame at the 1966 World Cup in England, where after West Germany’s final defeat the British press marvelled at the grace of a ‘beaten but proud Prussian officer’. Yet there was nothing Prussian about the Bavarian boy who flouted authority, disregarded rules and viewed the traditional German work ethic with the disdain of someone to whom everything comes naturally. After a glittering early career at Bayern Munich – captaining them to three European Cup victories and pioneering the playmaking libero role in central defence – Beckenbauer made a controversial move to the recently formed New York Cosmos in 1977. Praised as ‘the greatest’ by none other than Muhammad Ali, he gently warded off overtures from Rudolf Nureyev and partied the night away with Mick Jagger and Grace Jones at Studio 54. Back home, though, people often wondered what to make of this most famous German athlete who was so un-German. Beckenbauer’s country had finally learned to love him by the time he managed the national side to World Cup glory in 1990, but allegations of corruption surrounding Germany’s successful bid to host the 2006 World Cup made him a controversial figure all over again. In The Three Lives of the Kaiser, leading football writer Uli Hesse gives us the definitive biography of this truly remarkable legend.
