Don Juan Comes Back from the War was first performed in this translation at the National Theatre in 1978. FIGARO GETS DIVORCED (FIGARO LÄSST SICH SCHEIGEN): An aristocratic couple and their two servants are on the run from a revolution. Book Two Plays by Olga Mukhina

Download or read book Two Plays by Olga Mukhina written by John Freedman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-08-31 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Olga Mukhina is one of the most talented, young playwrights in Russia. Born in Moscow in 1970, she has already garnered enviable praise from critics and audiences throughout Russia and Europe since her first play, Tanya-Tanya, was performed in 1996. Tanya-Tanya is an atmospheric, poetic tale that observes three couples at a suburban Moscow home who dance, drink champagne, kiss, fall in and out of love, and struggle with dignity and humor to keep some semblance of control over their lives. The parallels with Chekhovian drama are undeniable and clearly intended by the author. You, Mukhina's most recent work, is a love poem to her hometown of Moscow as well as a scathing attack on the apathy of people blindly wrapped up in their own happiness and sorrow.

Book The Fourteenth of July and Danton Two Plays of the French Revolution

Download or read book The Fourteenth of July and Danton Two Plays of the French Revolution written by Romain Rolland and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2021-01-01 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is perhaps a little surprising to learn that the author of Jean-Christophe has written at least sixteen full-length plays. Most of these, it is true, antedate the publication of the first parts of his epoch-making novel, but since nothing that comes from the brain of Romain Rolland can fail to possess significance and interest, a brief inquiry into his dramatic writings and theories on the drama will reveal an aspect of the man which has hitherto strangely enough scarcely been touched upon. His plays for a people's theater, and his book of projects, are as integral a part of his development as Jean-Christophe itself.

Book excerpt: Old Raleigh Road is a play in three acts. It is a serious look at the tobacco issue both economically and morally. A tobacco farmer contracts lung cancer and summons his family home while he deals with his impending death. Ultimately, he makes a decision that will affect his entire family and the tobacco industry in his region. Rednecks, the play, was an adaptation of Batchelor's novel by the same name. Rednecks has also been produced. Rednecks was staged in the very bar, by and among the characters that inspired the broad satire. This play is a satirical approach to the ironies and idiocy of two actual killings stunning in their irrationality. . Boson Books also offers Becoming Americans, a historical novel by Donald Batchelor. For an author bio, photo, reviews, and a reading sample, visit bosonbooks.com.

Book TWO PLAYS

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert Blumenfeld
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2023-10-15
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 209 pages

Download or read book TWO PLAYS written by Robert Blumenfeld and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-10-15 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Count of Sainte-Hélène: A Balzacian Melodrama takes place in 1817-1818 in Paris, during the Bourbon Restoration when Louis XVIII had been placed on the throne of France at the decree of the Congress of Vienna after the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo in 1815. This play is based on one of the most sensational cases solved by the first great detective in history, Eugène-François Vidocq, the ex-convict who became head of the French Sûreté (the Security Service of the French police). An altogether extraordinary individual, he was an acquaintance of Victor Hugo, who based both Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert in Les Misérables on Vidocq; and a friend of Balzac, whose character Vautrin is even more closely inspired by and modeled on Vidocq than Hugo’s characters are. Interludes of the Hear: A Play about Marcel Proust, his life and loves, was inspired by my love for that author’s most famous book, In Search of Lost Time. The play goes back and forth in time, as the Student interviews Céleste Albaret, Proust’s housekeeper and general factotum, for his doctoral dissertation. When I read the book, I felt it was as if he were talking directly to me. I am sure many readers have had the same experience. Proust’s penetrating picture of the society of his day in pre-World War One France, and of Paris during the war itself, and his amazing, psychologically insightful portrait of each of his characters, his understanding of psychology that in some ways parallels that of Sigmund Freud, makes his book still relevant in today’s world.

Book Marivaux Two Plays

Download or read book Marivaux Two Plays written by Pierre de Marivaux and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2007-04-18 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two tales of multiple misunderstanding by the eighteenth-century master of complex, witty comedies. In the tightly-structured, erotically-charged fable The Triumph of Love, a young princess, conscious that her claim to the throne is less than honourable, disguises herself as a man in order to dupe her enemies and persuade the rightful ruler to return. This faithful and vivid translation by Braham Muray and Katherine Sand was first performed at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester in 2007. In The Game of Love and Chance, a pair of prospective lovers each swap places with their servants, while their relatives, fully apprised of both deceptions, look on in amusement. Neil Bartlett's adaptation, first performed at the Lyric Hammersmith, finds inventive modern equivalents for Marivaux's ludic theatricality and its roots in the Commedia dell'Arte.
