Book Two Important Greek Words Frequently Used by the Lord Jesus Christ and His Disciples in Their Teachings and Preaching Concerning poieo and ergazomai

Download or read book Two Important Greek Words Frequently Used by the Lord Jesus Christ and His Disciples in Their Teachings and Preaching Concerning poieo and ergazomai written by Repsaj Jasper and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-04-10 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When John the Baptist was in prison he sent two of his disciples to ask Jesus whether He was the One coming or should they expect another? The Lord Jesus answer to them was by quoting Isaiah 35:5-6 and adding that He came to preach the gospel to the poor. This incident was reported in Matthew 11:3-5 and Luke 7:20-22. After His water baptism by John the Baptist and the coming of the Holy Spirit to dwell in Him and after He was driven by the Holy Spirit to the wilderness and after He passed all the tests the devil placed upon Him, He went straight into preaching the gospel and calling the people to repent and believe in the gospel(Mark 1:12-15). In anothe incident recorded in Luke 4:18 the Lord went into a synagogue in Nazareth and He read to the congregation Isaiah 61:1-2 in which He revealed that He was the One the God anointed and sent to preach the gospel to the poor. WHAT EXACTLY IS THE GOSPEL OF SALVATION PREACHED BY THE LORD JESUS CHRIST WHEN HE WAS ON THE EARTH? There are hardly any books by "Christian authors" giving the details of the gospel as preached by the Lord. Isaiah 61:1-2 and Luke 4:18 are very clear scriptures that the God anointed Jesus Christ to preach the gospel to the poor. Yet almost all the writings and sermons by "Christian theologians and preachers" concerning the gospel were/are based mainly on the teachings of Paul. Paul himself revealed in Ephesians 2:20 that believers must be built up on the FOUNDATION of the apostles and prophets, the Lord Jesus being the CORNERSTONE. This means the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ are the CORNERSTONE and the teachings of the apostles and prophets are the FOUNDATION. The FOUNDATION is clearly based upon the CORNERSTONE. This means the teachings of Peter, Paul, John, James, etc must be based upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, the CORNERSTONE. During the time of the apostle Paul the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were not available to be used as the BASIS to compare with what Paul, Peter, John, James, etc taught. Called out ones especially the gentiles only have what Paul taught them. Many of Paul's teachings concerning salvation in relation to works, faith, law, etc. appear contradictory or open to different ways of interpretation which had led to the establishment of many different sects of Christianity, hence many organizational churches. The interpretation of the teachings of Pauls and other apostles must be based upon the CORNERSTONE teachings of the Lord Jesus in order to arrive at the true understanding of the gospel as taught by the apostles. This book in particular details the teachings of the Lord Jesus principally and His apostles and prophets secondarily concerning two Greek words "poieo"(meaning to do or to make or to produce") and "ergazomai"(meaning to toil or to labour) in relation to the gospel of salvation. Since "poieo" and "ergazomai" are directly linked to works, it means the gospel of salvation requires doing and labouring works that are acceptable to the Lord Jesus Christ in order for believers to receive everlasting life. All the books written by the author have one theme: All interpretations of all the writings and teachings of the apostles and prophets must be based upon the clear CORNERSTONE teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ in order to arrive at their true meaning and understanding that are essential to the belief and walk of every believer to receive everlasting life. Wrong interpretation of Paul's teachings will lead to false understanding of the gospel of salvation and will lead those who believe to the broad road to damnation and not to everlasting life, because they will lead believers to follow a different Jesus Christ and not the true Jesus Christ, the One who will lead true believers to everlasting life through obedience to the true gospel of salvation.

Book excerpt: Within His Wounds contrasts the redemptive treasures of Jesus with popular doctrines that circumvent the message of His cross. From many prominent platforms the absolute truths of atonement are no longer primary. Humanism is ascending where Christ centered preaching has been abandoned. Worldly philosophers are filling our sacred pulpits. Cross depleted sermons are giving counterfeit comfort to vast audiences. Hollow professions of faith are many, but genuine conversions to Christ are few! Fans are multiplying, disciples are vanishing and lost souls are perishing! Within His Wounds is a clarion call back to Calvary where Jesus suffered and died in our place. The wounds that led to His death are the wounds that lead us to His life.

Book excerpt: Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) entered the Collegiate School of Connecticut, which is now Yale University, at age thirteen. He graduated as valedictorian four years later and continued to distinguish himself as a great intellect throughout his ministry of pastoring, preaching, and writing in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. His powerful sermons helped feed the Great Awakening, a religious revival characterized by emotional conversions and startling manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Jonathan Edwards was a firm believer in Calvinism and the doctrine of predestination. His stern religious discipline stemmed from a conviction of God's sovereignty and of our total indebtedness to the redeeming love of God. This thirty-day devotional takes us beyond the "fire and brimstone" persuasions for which Edwards is noted to an appreciation of "the door of mercy" that Christ has thrown open for the believer. " Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." Now can you believe, that when the apostle is exhorting his brethren, to think of others more highly than themselves, he would mention as an instance of Christ's humility, that He did not think his own Father higher than himself; that He thought it nothing wrong to claim an equality with the infinite Jehovah! A singular way indeed of promoting humility; and making Christians of the same mind with Christ. No. No, you will not attribute such absurdities to the pen of the inspired Paul. What then must we do 1 Does not the passage read, that " he thought it not robbery to be equal with God 1" In our translation, it does. But you should remember that this epistle was written in the Greek language. And you may know that scholars of all parties agree that our translation of this sentence is not correct. What then is the true rendering? The literal meaning of the Greek words is this. " He did not think of the robbery, the being like God." Although created in the express image of God, he did not think of the robbery of being like God; did not think of the robbery of claiming an equality with his Father; but humbled himself; so that God has highly exalted him, even at his right hand. This makes the apostle consistent and sensible, and even powerful. This passage, therefore, contains positive evidence that Jesus is not equal with God; nay, that he never thought of the presumption of claiming equality with his heavenly Father. Phil. ii. 5, 11. What then must be our conclusion 1 The Old Testament does not contain one passage in which it is either declared or implied, that the son is equal with God. On the contrary, it is its uniform testimony, that God has no...

Book excerpt: In several ways the present set of homilies continues an approach to preaching apparent in the more recent of my collections which the Paulist Press has graciously presented to the public. First, there is an ongoing struggle with Scripture. Three sets of such responsibilities cover the gamut of human living: (1) Love God above all else. (2) Treat every man, woman, and child like another self. (3) Touch the earth, the nonhuman, with unfailing reverence.
