Book excerpt: Clara Hamilton, a genius in her field, but known second to her father the late Dr. Henry Hamilton both pioneers to the study of archaeology. Raised by her father as an only child after the death of her mother, she grew up in a world of research and imperial data. A woman with impressive educational credentials, and scientific know-how, her confidence and beauty matched her talents. This wandering spirit found the love of her life and started a family. What appeared to be a perfect life was short-lived after a tragedy that left her void and incapable of moving on. The hurt and anguish no parent ever wants to face had become Clara’s reality. The loss of her son in a tragic accident that she blamed herself for haunted her until one day she disappeared. Hiding in plain sight, trapped and buried in a den of depression no pill or drink could get her out of. Psychiatrists, antidepressants, self-help gurus, nothing seemed to work until... One divine moment in time; one calculated meeting; one unique man of God would ask her to believe in something her soul would be unable to refuse. The Ark, The Story of Clara Hamilton is a riveting fictional masterpiece full of action and motivational stories will have you laughing, crying, and reflecting on your spiritual journey regardless of your faith. This book captures the essence of grit, determination, love, and relationships.

Book excerpt: While it is true the Bible does relate important episodes in the history of the Jewish people, it is thought of as being much more than a history book. This is why many question the Bible's rationale for including a book such as Numbers, one that seems to be little more than a history book. In comparison, Genesis as a history book makes sense. It tells of the creation of the heavens and earth and the foundational stories of the Jewish people. Even Exodus, which relates the departure of the Jewish people from Egypt, has many legal sections. This thus begs the question: what exactly is the Book of Numbers, and what role does it play in the overall narrative of the Bible? Presenting Numbers as the book of character development is the major guiding principle of the pedagogical approach set forth in this book for teaching Numbers. This approach can also be used for teaching Genesis. However, the characters in Genesis are portrayed as either "very good" or "evil." Not so in Numbers, whose main personalities can and should be viewed in hues of grey, making it a very appropriate vehicle for teaching character development to high school students.

Book excerpt: For the first time, Miqra'ot Gedolot is available in an accessible English edition. First published 500 years ago as the "Rabbinic Bible," the biblical commentaries known as the Miqra'ot Gedolot have inspired and educated generations of Hebrew readers. With this edition, the voices of Rashi, Ibn Ezra, Nahmanides, Rashbam, and other medieval commentators come alive once more, speaking in a contemporary English translation annotated and explicated for lay readers. Each page of The Commentators' Bible contains several Hebrew verses from the book of Exodus, surrounded by both the 1917 and 1985 JPS translations and new English translations of the major commentators. This large-format volume is beautifully designed for ease of navigation among the many elements on each page, including explanatory notes and selected additional comments from the works of Bekhor Shor, Hizkuni, Abarbanel, Sforno, Gersonides, and others. - Publisher.
