He married Amalia Stadel (1875-1943) in 1898 in Burton, Montana. Hermann's brother, August, married Helene Lemke (1859-1943) in 1880 in Rozyszye in the parish of Roschischtche, Volhynia, Ukraine. In 1893, they immigrated to Canada and then moved to the state of Washington. .
